I go every Monday that I am in Edinburgh after 5 pm you can't beat the pizza special, only £1 for a cheese and Tomato sauce pizza with purchase of a beverage. Toppings are extra. Friendly staff and good atmosphere make it a must see on a Monday or any other day of the week.

Came here with friends to enjoy the Monday night pizza to be told there was no pizza left... All they had left was chips and onion rings at full £3.50 price, which when we explained we were disappointed, little apology was given, even felt like we were the bad guys for wanting the offer! This was only at about 7pm!

Saw reviews and promise of a range of rums online. Husbands a bit of a rum connoisseur so made a point of visiting on his birthday. Limited range of rum and girl behind bar not too knowledgeable or to be honest interested in finding a rum to try. Bit grubby and lacked atmosphere. Online also advised cocktails- this is limited... It was really quiet when we stumbled across The Kilderkin late on a Monday afternoon. It's not the nicest looking pub, but the food was really good. I had an excellent burger that was a great close to several days of really tasty dining across Edinburgh.

Walked into this pub for a drink with friends. Walked through to an empty table. Was just about to sit down. When an off hand member of staff said you'd be better through there. A couple of these tables are reserved and may spill over........ but this table is free no reserve sign up. Decided that due to the rude... More

Four of us had lunch after a long walk on a damp, rainy day. It was a comfortable pub, which seemed to be frequented by locals. Hot soup and a glass of wine were enjoyed in a low key pub environment.

Although situated on canongate this is a must visit. A jewel in the scottish crown. Great food and drink and a warm welcome. Will visit again. Amazing pizza menu.

We stumbled into Kilderkin after a long day of travel and tourism. We were exhausted, thirsty, and a bit hungry. The ambience was great and the soup (tomato) that Ella shared with us was wonderful. That brings us to Ella. She was fantastic. Literally made the visit to kilderkin one to remember. She provided timely recommendations and lovey service. She's... More

Friendly service. Had a drink after a day of sightseeing. Very Helpful in choosing local gin, Pickering, to try along with some local history. Relaxing and comfortable pub.

Service was terrible. Was grunted at throughout service and the coffee I ordered was luke warm and the majority was froth. An elderly and very frail gentleman purchased a drink and was not even helped over to a table as the girl behind the bar watched him struggle. This place has the potential to be great. Sadly the staff let... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
