I've been to the fountain a couple of times now. The atmosphere is very nice and relaxed, I enjoy the lighting and the mood here for some drinks. The food has always been nice too with a good selection of drinks available. The service can...be quite blunt and direct, not rude or horrible, but not nice either, but that wouldn't stop me recommending the place or telling people to go here because its a nice pub ^_^.More

The Fountain saved our business lunch Thursday 19th October 2023. thank you to them for sorting out our last minute reservation and letting the dog Monty in as well. the waiting room had failed to inform us that there kitchen was closed for the day....The Fountain were very accommodating, the food was amazing the service was top notch as well. the chef was only 24 and but his food was great. thank you to the Fountain for saving the day. :) :)More

One of the best pubs in the area, today's menu change gave a tasty twist to a familiar place. Staff are knowledgeable, even about flags! And very attentive.

My boyfriend and I went to the fountain today for a Sunday Roast, drinks and dessert. We also took our dog, on booking we requested a cozy corner in the bar area as our dog can be a little nervous in new surroundings but appeared...very settled. We got a lovely warm welcome from staff and could not fault the food or cocktails. Would highly recommend and will most definitely be back.More

We had the privilege of eating our dinner at this establishment. Lynn greeted use and was instantly in control of our wonderful experience. We ordered fish n chips. We are from Detroit, Michigan. The fish n chips we received was just amazing. It was flakey...with a beer batter and the chips were natural cut. They do a pea mash which I am not familiar with and couldn’t get down with. But the fish was over the top fresh and tasty incredible. I was astounded by the taste. I only regret that we will be heading home soon and I can’t door dash it! Recommended to us by the post office lad, this pub is clean, friendly, quaint and delicious. Highly recommend the beef pie and fish and chips. Had an ale and Bloody Mary as well…. Yummy! A must when you are on Dundee Street!

I was planning to reserve a large table at The Fountain for friends coming from London & Newcastle for the Springsteen show on 30 May. When I telephoned to make the reservation, the staff couldn't have been more helpful. I couldn't be precise about numbers...but was offered a high table for 8 plus the flexibility to add more. As it turned out, we needed that flexibility! We were incredibly well-served and looked after. We're all in our 60s and needed the seat as we had 'pit' tickets (standing!) for the show. Most of us ate and had a few drinks - everything was perfect on a very busy day. Service with a smile! I wanted to show Edinburgh in its best light to my friends; The Fountain really played its part. Well done to the team at The Fountain - particularly Lynne (sp?) who I spoke with as we were leaving. All of my friends were enthusiastic about it which really made my day. Before Covid, I regularly went to The Fountain after Hearts' matches and I look forward to returning. Once again, a huge thanks! 5 stars indeed!!More

Had dinner here. An extensive and different menu. Everyone enjoyed their meals and prices were reasonable. Friendly service. Would go back. Card payments accepted.

Great menu . So much choice . Nice big portions We stayed for the pub quiz and won money off our bill! Loved the atmosphere and was also dog friendly Our server Lynne was on the ball with our drinks

I come here a lot on a Friday,it’s a great wee local with lovely staff but the food is a hit or a miss ! Went for Sunday lunch as a treat today, my what a let down! Potatoes had skin on and in no...way was a proper roast potato. Meat had been under the heat lamp so was scarred on its edges. Veg was nice and although Yorkshire pudding was also scarred by heat lamp it was ok. The gravy was unexplainable, it was thin like water with bite of chopped onion and was completely tasteless. I asked if we could have thicker gravy, I was told this was not possible as it came from a big batch, I would assume that thickening gravy was part of a chefs skill( cornstarch and water) but u could not be bothered arguing! Nearly £16 it was no better than an Iceland frozen beef dinner. Such lazy cooking . Avoid!More

Decided to come here for drinks with friends pre-NYE and had such a great time. Prices were reasonable and cocktails were excellent too, Tiegan recommended the signature white russian which was lovely and so was the service. Will be back!
