Looking up a review of mine made me realise i hardly ever review where I live and should really do more about this!!
So The Fountain is the best place to eat if you're out for a night at Cineworld but is sooo much than that sounds, or indeed, than it needs to be , given that location. It has lovely home made food, fabulous gin and tonics in enormous bowl like glasses and friendly staff - above all its a comforting and cosy place which deals equally well with students studying, hungry solo travellers and couples glammed up. It really is just the kind of local suburb restaurant you want. And the steak pie is to die for!!

Recommended by my daughter, I've now been twice. A good alternative to the chain restaurants in the Fountain Park complex. Prices reasonable. I had to wait a while for a friend and felt very comfortable alone there. Didn't notice any intrusive music. Only negative was that no butter came with the large piece of bread with the soup. When we asked for some the amount was pretty measly. Excellent soup with interesting ingredients though.

We went on a Sunday evening and it was pretty busy. It took a fair while to be seated, initially being ignored until a couple of staff said they'd be over in a minute. Initially things went well with drinks and orders being taken fast however we waited 50 minutes for our food which wasn't great. We had only ordered two mains and I understand it was kind of busy but it wasn't that busy as not everyone was ordering food.

My family and I all had the roast beef today and there’s nothing that was good about it at all. The Prosecco was warm and already opened so we couldn’t change it when it came to the table. The beef was chewy the vegetables were raw the gravy was watery and tasteless the Yorkshire puddings were overdone (black) and the whole thing was cold. It was the worst Sunday lunch I’ve ever had.
It was such a shame I’ve eaten here before lockdown the fish and chips and burgers were really good! My advice do not get the roast beef!

Thank you for your feedback, i am honestly shocked by your comments as we are well known for our Roast dinners. i can only appologise. I really wish you had raised your concern at the time so we could could rectify it straight away for you. Having been closed for 14 months we really do not wish to disapoint our guests, it appears on this occation that was the case. Hopefully you will visit us again in the future so we can show you how amazing our food is, especially the Roast dinner.

I come here a lot on a Friday,it’s a great wee local with lovely staff but the food is a hit or a miss ! Went for Sunday lunch as a treat today, my what a let down! Potatoes had skin on and in no way was a proper roast potato. Meat had been under the heat lamp so was scarred on its edges. Veg was nice and although Yorkshire pudding was also scarred by heat lamp it was ok. The gravy was unexplainable, it was thin like water with bite of chopped onion and was completely tasteless. I asked if we could have thicker gravy, I was told this was not possible as it came from a big batch, I would assume that thickening gravy was part of a chefs skill( cornstarch and water) but u could not be bothered arguing! Nearly £16 it was no better than an Iceland frozen beef dinner. Such lazy cooking . Avoid!

We visited here last night and I don’t review very often but the staff were just lovely and the food was excellent. I had the bone in shin of beef pie which was melt in the mouth and a really good portion. Veggies were tasty and perfectly cooked. My husband had the chicken and my son the chicken curry pie all superb. Lovely service and nice friendly atmosphere. The waitress had missed a round of drinks off the bill and we asked for a new bill - she took one of the drinks off for our honesty. What a lovely thing to do. It’s not a huge menu but what they do they do well. We’ll be back.

I can’t fault the food it was really good. Where it was a let down was the service. Rude & dismissive when asked questions about a dish on the menu & about beer selection. We’ve always found it really good and friendly but today was awful. Not even a how’s your meal was asked.

Staff were brilliant. My mum is gluten free and the manager on Saturday 19th October at dinner service was so helpful in offering her allergen options from the menu. She served us the whole night and couldn’t have been more accommodating.
The food was beautiful!
Highly recommended the Beef Brikset, Croquettes, Seabass and Haddock.
We always come for the Sunday Roast but we’ll be back for the main menu again.

We had the privilege of eating our dinner at this establishment. Lynn greeted use and was instantly in control of our wonderful experience. We ordered fish n chips. We are from Detroit, Michigan. The fish n chips we received was just amazing. It was flakey with a beer batter and the chips were natural cut. They do a pea mash which I am not familiar with and couldn’t get down with. But the fish was over the top fresh and tasty incredible. I was astounded by the taste. I only regret that we will be heading home soon and I can’t door dash it! Thank you guys for a great experience.

Such a lovely evening at the Fountain. Teagan made the experience even better by recommending some of the cocktails from the drinks menu. The tall, dark & irish is absolutely superb!

What happened?
This used to be a great pub with a solid beer selection and great food.
Now it’s a soulless cold town bar with awful beers, and bang average food that’s masked by going as spicy as possible. Avoid the ‘bang bang cauliflower’ as the dip will render anything for the rest of the night tasteless.
Used to be a great spot pre-rugby, I won’t cross it’s door ever again.

Girls night out

A group of 8 of us went here last week for our Christmas night out. Everyone commented on the delicious food and the good service. A big thank you to Lynn who looked after us really well and when it was time to leave, she even booked taxis for us and told us the time of our next bus. As it was a freezing cold, icy night this kind gesture was really appreciated. We had a great night out and we will be back soon.

Beautiful food and friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere too; we had a great time! 🙂 Milly was our waitress, she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. We'll definitely visit again next time we're out this way!

The Fountain saved our business lunch Thursday 19th October 2023.
thank you to them for sorting out our last minute reservation and letting the dog Monty in as well. the waiting room had failed to inform us that there kitchen was closed for the day. The Fountain were very accommodating, the food was amazing the service was top notch as well.
the chef was only 24 and but his food was great.
thank you to the Fountain for saving the day.

The Fountain is by far our favourite local bar. All the staff are genuinely lovely a warm welome evey time, but best barperson award goes to Teigan. Her Bloody Mary’s are outstanding (spicy AF 👌), not to mention her pickled veg but that’s a whole other experiment…
