Just be there for a Whisky the last week-end before Xmas. Excellent advice from their Whisky specialist who gave us an overview of the scottish production and variety.

Excellent evening dinner in this very unique restaurant in the heart of the old town Edinburgh, just off the Royal Mile. Food and wine very reasonable prices. Great service and busy laid back atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Great attentive staff, excellent food choices.

My fiancé took me here for my birthday because of my love for good food and whisky. Well she sure picked the perfect place! The food was incredible and the whisky selection was incredible. The staff couldn't be more friendlier and the service was impeccable! I will be recommending this place to all that I know and will certainly be... More

Enjoyed Christmas dinner with 17 colleagues on "Black Friday". We booked v early, back in summer, & although there was no menu available at the time they sent over the previous years & assured is this years would be similar. It was & the 4 options for each course were fantastic- certainly not your usual boring Christmas fare. Booking &... More

We were a group of 28 and we booked a Christmas weekday lunch for 1pm. The Festive Group Menu which we all selected from had a wide range of choices but it would appear the kitchen could not meet demand as we did not leave 430 pm. The staff were attentive and the food was good rather than outstanding. Overall... More

Went to restaurant couple days ago. Firstly horrid taxi journey. No fault of restaurant. When. We arrived with an older person has to go down stairs. Surprised no lift for wheelchair guests. I presume they can dine upstairs if required. Got to table. Lively layout. Amazing meal. Only couple minor points. The waiter should learn how to serve correctly. When... More

Michael Neave's restaurant was recommended to us by Stay Central Apartments and it lived up to their recommendation! We didn't have a reservation but this was no problem. We were made very welcome and received wonderful attention and help in choosing whiskys to enjoy with our food. The food was top quality and presentation was superb. The service and attention... We visited here on the fixed Christmas menu. £26 for the course and coffee and had a wonderful relaxed meal. My friend and I started with Bonnet goats’ cheese and leek panna cotta with wild mushrooms- exquisite! Whilst husband and our friend had Guinea fowl terrine with beetroot and redcurrant-perfect. Mains -Aberdeen Angus sirloin steak with dauphinoise potatoes and cherry... More

The quality of the service is something that becomes quite apparent as soon as you walk in the door. There’s an unflappable attentiveness that makes you feel very welcome and relaxed. The food is immaculately presented and mostly delicious, but we did have a small issue with slightly undercooked potato, on both mains, and I feel my dessert was lacking... More

We have been touring Scotland for 5 weeks and eaten in some fantastic restaurants including the Three Chimneys on Skye and this was by far the best meal. From the time we walked in ( midweek ) without a booking to paying the bill, it was impeccable . Drinks in the bar , served by a really helpful barman, choose... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
