Service was excellent from start to finish. However food very average, two courses with glass of bubbles for £15, wouldn't do again. Had meat platter meats were lovely but cabbage side had no taste what so ever! Main course steak and chips so chewy couldn't eat, chips were same as McDonald's!!

Very bad atmosphere, noicy and warm. The food was quite poor as well. This was not a nice experience that I would reccomend for a great night out with friends.

Good location! Nice inside but big! The food was ok but not what we expected! The pasta was too hard, not al dente. Lots of pasta not so much ooxtal, but nice taste. My partner's beef was a bit overdone. Service good but stressed.

Called in on the off chance without a booking and they managed to fit us in even though they were very busy. Lovely friendly staff, lovely food and excellent choice. Only thing we didn’t like was we found the room very dark and difficult to read the menu!

Lovely setting. Great menu choice and fantastic non alcohol cocktails, if like me wine is not your thing. Kids and bigger kids menu was presented really well. Potions are a good size and the food was yummy.

Lovely setting in a great old building. Went looking for early tea at 5pm and got the lunch menu. Evening menu starts at 6pm. Still that meant we got a table withpout any problem and the staff were not that busy. Had some nice pasta, and a sweet with wine. An hour later the place was rammed and we were... More

I expected a lovely restaurant but was bitterly disappointed as this is in the heart of Edinburgh The food was OK but small portions and not a huge selection exspensive for what we got portion wise. Service was very good.

The setting here if very nice, with the building being very decorative and well dressed. The place was very busy so we had to wait in the bar with a 'buzzer' to let us know when a table was ready. The drinks are quite pricey, as is the food, but everything was of a good quality so worth visiting on... More

Description
JAMIE'S ITALIAN EDINBURGH A partnership between Jamie Oliver and his Italian mentor, chef Gennaro Contaldo, Jamie's Italianhas won thousands of fans for its delicious and affordable food since launching their first restaurant in Oxford in May 2008. The Jamie's Italian menu is based on dishes you'd find people eating all over Italy, made with care but delivered without fuss. The family-friendly restaurants are all about serving up rustic, Italian food made using the best possible ingredients, plus fresh pasta that's made on-site every day, and an award-winning children's menu, too. The spectacular Edinburgh restaurant is housed in the former supper halls of the Assembly Rooms on George Street, in Edinburgh's city centre. Perhaps their most elegant restaurant - grand ceilings, impressive cornicing and scarlet walls, teamed with red velvet chairs and chandeliers, make Jamie's Italian in Edinburgh an amazing spot for a special night out. The central location means it's easy to drop in at any time of the day or evening too.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
