Restaurant was very close to our hotel so it was really convenient, to top it all, staff welcomes you immediately and are all very friendly. Food is delicious and they have a lot of deals that make it very good value for money.

This was our first time in The Advocate and we really liked it. We enjoyed some food and drinks at very affordable prices while listening to some live music. The staff were friendly and helpful and the pub had a happy and comfortable atmosphere. We look forward to a return visit soon.

This is a nice place the staff were friendly and very helpful. There is a very good selection of beers and a excellent menu for food at reasonable prices. The service when food is ordered is quick and helpful all our food was pipeing hot. The location is central and there is plenty of space inside.

The Advocate is a decent city centre pub. It's location means it is frequently busy so it's worth trying to book a table to avoid disappointment. Decent range of beers, but you will pay city centre prices - £9 for an Innis and Gunn lager and a Koppaberg. I haven't eaten here recently but the food looks good.

Just off the Royal Mile , this is a friendly pub with a good inside seating area , good selection of hand pull beers and draft beers and lagers. With plenty of whiskey and other spirits to choose from. They serve food but we never ate here but enjoyed a few beers at an interesting 'cross' shaped table. Typical pub

While we only had drinks, I checked out the menu. The lunch and dinner offerings were reasonably priced and family friendly. We enjoyed very comfy chairs which felt like sitting in a living room. It had a large screen tv which was playing the news. The staff was friendly.

During our short visit to Edinburgh we were looking for a place to eat close to Royal Mile but not with Royal Mile prices - the answer was Th Advocate. The food was really good, prices affordable and staff helpful and friendly.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
