Excellent venue for meeting friends. We had a good time with good service and drinks served with olives nuts etc. The staff made us feel very welcome and contributed to a good atmosphere. The History was interesting as it was the original railway station.Drinks and food are reasonably priced

Enjoyed afternoon tea on Sunday afternoon . Good selection and quality. Look out for an amazing mini banoffee tart. Harpist was a nice touch and added to the atmosphere in this beautiful hotel. Drinks prices not too terrible - good selection of gins!

We had coffee and cake. Truly delicious. We ordered the cake of the day and weren't disappointed. The lounge is large and airy. The staff attentive and friendly. The pianist on an evening is a lovely touch.

Live piano/harpist playing in the background Friday and Saturday evenings. This gives a very relaxing setting. Good choice of loose leaf teas as well as other hot and cold drinks. Staff very friendly and attentive. A very pleasant area to relax in at any time of day.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
