Nice open plan pub with friendly efficient staff. Good choice of draught beers available and my wife certainly enjoyed the house red wine. We had a drink here prior to going for dinner at the Scran & Scally which is across the road. The pub is also children friendly and there were lost of families of all ages enjoying themselves.

We were here for a 50th and had a good time. Friendly staff and good selection of beer. I liked the traditional decor - this is what you might call a real pub which is basic with locals and character

This is a great bar before heading into Stockbridge for dinner. Reasonably priced cocktails, great atmosphere and table service.

Big bar area welcomed me. I sat at the bar and read while sipping on a pint. It's a busy place, so it can get pretty loud. Big area to sit outside if the weather cooperates. I'd definitely go back to sample the food next time.

Live around the corner. Super bar and great outdoor spaces. Have been for breakfast a few times and it is excellent. Always surprised not more people go for breakfast. Fantastic location.

Lots of character inside & out. Great service but don't expect a spectacular meal that makes you want to rebook. Greatly over priced considering.

After a long walk in beautiful Stockbridge, we stopped off here for a few drinks. The large paved area outside the bar has large wooden picnic benches where we sat in the afternoon sunshine shaded by trees, with some good quality cold beers and wine. It was busy outside because of the beautiful weather. The bars inside looked interesting and... More

Popped in for a pint the other day. Very friendly welcome by who I presume is the owner working away on his laptop. Had a barmaid serving drinks. Drinks were good only had a tennets but it was good and not flat like some places can be. Prices were fine. Dogs are also very welcome in this pub. When we... More

We enjoyed two hamburgers, a single malt scotch and two beers followed by a delicious dessert for a reasonable price.

This is a lovely wee local pub in which to meet friends in for a drink and a blether. Some nights there's live music which is always good fun, too. N.B. This is not the Raeburn Hotel on Comely Bank Road to which so many of the reviewers refer. You can actually have a conversation with friends in this pub... More

Staying in Stockbridge & Dean Village

Neighbourhood Profile
Stockbridge & Dean Village
Just downhill of New Town and attractively straddling a river near the elegant Royal Botanic Garden, it’s small wonder that Stockbridge became one of the city’s first hip neighbourhoods. It’s now one of Edinburgh’s most desirable, though many bohemian touches have fallen away as its residents have matured and the area has gentrified. Some second-hand shops cling on, but mostly residents display refined tastes in basement bistros, gastropubs, coffee and antique shops, boutiques and delis and at the Sunday farmers' market. A pleasant ten-minute walk away, along a leafy riverside path beside the gurgling Water of Leith, lies Dean Village. This sleepy neighborhood of medieval half-timbered houses still retains much of the village feel it had when watermills plied their trade here. Beyond, the wooded riverside path feels even more remote as it climbs to the sculpture gardens of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
