We ate here before a show and enjoyed it very much. I think my pizza was 'the real thing' and my husband had a huge burger. The ice cream we had afterwards, made by Beech Dene, was very good. The waitress was friendly and helpful. I'm glad I didn't read any previous bad reviews as our experience was good and I... More

You say you get what you pay for and at two courses for £12:95 we didn't expect a great deal. But fried food which all tasted of fish 🐟 beggars belief. Fishy chicken skewers followed by fishy burger 🍔 was appallingly. Aberdeen Angus burger I don't think so it tasted like a Rustlers microwaveable burger. Do not ever do this... More

A Birthday treat which turned into a Birthday disaster! We ordered our meal before the excitement of seeing Sister Act and were told the kitchen were struggling to get hot food out and there was a half hour wait. We placed our order in the hope it wouldn't be too long. After 45 minutes we were told the kitchen staff... More

We arrived a little later than intended but staff were wonderful and showed us up to the restaurant personally . We were reassured that there was plenty of time to enjoy a relaxed meal . Superb food excellent service and then shown through the door from the restaurant to the Theatre perfect.

Following a visit to the Boards in edinburgh playhouse I can honestly say I am left with a nasty taste in the mouth. Poor service, we had to summon waiting staff to request we order after waiting 30 mins. Limited menu. Following another wait we finally got our starters which were fair. The limited menu did not have much to... More

As we were at playhouse to see Jack Whitehall we decided to have meal and drink here as it is part of playhouse. Food was very good and reasonably priced for its location. Very friendly staff also.

We had dinner here last night before going to see Mamma Mia. The service was incredibly friendly and fast and the food was fantastic. We both had the tomato and basil soup as a starter - delicious with fantastic bread. Then I had the pulled pork burger and my mum had the salmon fillet on sweet chilli noodles. Both dishes... More

Visited here before going to,see Bilky Elliot. I have previously eaten here and I am glad to say that the food standard, customer service and all round experience have remained high. If you are going to see a show in The Playhouse, why go elsewhere. Come and eat here. You will not be disappointed - honestly. The only comment I... More

We were here last night for drinks. I did not know the place existed but I will definitely go back. Very welcoming, friendly staff. There was great entertainment on and security staff saying they hoped we'd had a good evening when we left. Brilliant atmosphere in tasteful surroundings - we loved it.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
