Visited here after searching for best brunch spots in Edinburgh. This was a 20 min walk from our hotel near the castle but was a lovely walk nonetheless, it’s located at the circus on a lovely rounded cobble road/street, we visited on a Tuesday morning and it was peaceful. The outside is very attractive, people sat outside drinking coffee, they don’t do reservations but we managed to get a seat inside right away. Hand san and masks worn by all staff. Lovely selection of cakes and pastries on display, lovely trendy coffee shop decor like mirrors and art work and an easy scan code to get the menu on your phone. Nice selection of brunch and lunch, from different variants of eggs benedict, fry ups, bagels, waffles etc. I had the ‘our benedict’ which was sour dough toast, eggs, kale and spinach, hollondaise and I added streaky bacon and it was lovely. My boyfriend had the same but with cooked salmon instead of bacon. Really tasty hollondaise sauce. Was torn between getting eggs Ben Or the waffles. I saw others with the fry ups and they looked really tasty. Disappointed they weren’t doing the alcoholic slush is just yet as I would’ve 100% had one! Two drinks and two mains with the eat out to help out scheme ended up costing us £14. Couldn’t go wrong at all. Staff were nice, relaxing and enjoyable and would definitely recommend and return.

Had this place recommended to us by a few different friends so we just had to try and we were not disappointed! Having viewed the website prior to our visit (in order to take a look at the menu as we are always so excited to decide which dishes we want and to book a table), we realised they only did walk-ins and were a bit apprehensive that it would be too busy. However, The Pantry was executing an extremely quick and efficient service in which you leave your contact details and receive a text to confirm that you’re in the queue for a table allowing for time to walk around the lovely area where it’s situated (Stockbridge). We were told our table would be around 20-25 minutes but we received a text after just 15 minutes and returned to be seated straight away. We had the Sunshine on Stockbridge, Eggs Benny with Hot Smoked Salmon and Halloumi Fries. YUM! Well worth the visit and slight wait.

Having read about the Pantry online, we popped in the morning we flew into Edinburgh. The staff were friendly and the cafe was spacious and welcoming. The menu was extensive with plenty of Vegan/Vege/GF options available. The food was served swiftly and was wonderfully presented. It was lovely to see that on the Vegetarian breakfast they made an effort to serve up tasty spins on the usual hashbrowns etc etc with Vege Haggis, crispy Halloumi Hash and a tasty Vege Rosti. All in all a wonderful spot to eat just down the hill from Princes Street. Great spot for dogs too!

We had visited the Pantry quite a few times in previous years but I think it is possibly under new management now as they have got rid of the kids play area to make space for more tables. We were a group of six plus a young child looking for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We stepped in to the restaurant and spoke to a member of staff who very quickly started shaking his head. He didn't say anything but ran around the room and came back to tell us it would be a twenty minute wait, and could we leave and close the door behind us as we were letting the cold air in.That was all he said, no niceties. I'm not sure how his other customers got in without letting the cold in. But he doesn't need to worry about us risking that again. 20 minutes isn't an unreasonable wait for a table on a Saturday so I was surprised he asked us to leave. It's a shame, the Pantry used to be a great place for brunch. I can't comment on their food now but it used to be good, just a shame it's not very welcoming now.

I was in disbelief today at how poor this establishment was considering we had to queue and then wait 45 minutes for a table. The first issue here is that there is no booking system. You turn up and put your name down and then get told a rough wait time. We were told around 40 minutes and then we got the text to return about 45 minutes later. This would be fine if the food and service was amazing, but unfortunately this was not the case. We were seated outside at a table that should really be for 2, but is set up for groups of 4. The table was far too thin and made it difficult to fit all the food on the table along with drinks. The breakfast finishes at 11am, we actually arrived at 10.20 but due to the 45 minute wait we missed the breakfast. Half the items were missing from the lunch menu so we had to settle for the all day brunch menu. The food arrived fairly quickly but it was not a great standard. The “Sunshine on Leith” was really bland, the only flavour was from the sauce, but that wasn’t great. The waffles came with a blueberry compote, which totally took over the dish. The bacon and maple syrup were lost in it and this was disappointing. The bill for 4 with one menu item each and drinks came to £75 (with a £5 service charge already added). This seemed really expensive for what we got. The food was just not up to standard at all. Edinburgh is full of amazing breakfast restaurants, all of which you can book and don’t have to wait for. I’d recommend giving The Pantry a miss and choosing somewhere else.

We have always fancied going to The Pantry as it’s always so busy but previously have never been able to get table, so felt pleased when we finally got one on Saturday. Lovely little fennel and caper coleslaw came with the sandwich, along with few crisps. The sandwiches we ordered were supposed to be served in ciabatta which as everyone knows is a rustic style, crusty but airy Italian bread. Really disappointed when we got soft pale rolls, a small roll halved with no crustY texture at all, basically cheap inferior quality bread which you would expect in somewhere like subway, yuck. Maybe our expectations were too high but paying £8.50 for a ciabatta sandwich we would expect ‘real’ bread not run of the mill cheapest of the cheap. Service was good but doubt would return.

The ideal breakfast to set you up for the day to explore Edinburgh. Great value for money, all items of the Pantry Fry were cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Love the Scottish touch of having haggis included. Waitresses were also very lovely. Always very busy though so make sure you book or get there nice and early to make sure you get a table!

I went with a couple of friends to have brunch on sunday the 10th april at around 11am. We didn't have to wait long for a table but on being seated we were given dirty glasses which we had to ask to change. The food was ok but the service was awful. My friend had her baby with her and we were asked to move the pram very rudely. The person who seemed to be the manager serving had an awful attiude. She might have been having a bad day but it doesn't hurt to be polite. On leaving we we getting ready to go when again she approached us to tell us to leave very rudely again because she had customers who had been waiting for over and hour and 45mins which was a lie as we had only been there for around an hour. They made no effort to help us leave after insisting we store the pram at the other side of the cafe. The food was ok but I would definitely not recommend this cafe especially if you have any mobility issues or small children as we were made to feel like a nuisance when we only wanted to have a relaxed catch up.

The Pantry is well known in Edinburgh. It is a Stockbridge iconic place for the last few years and here is why. The ever changing menu is different from other brunch places and affordable for all budgets. The vibe is warm. The charity teapots and teacups are cute. The staff is friendly. And the location is perfect for a Sunday walk. There is no booking system, just walk in and good luck! Clearly these people know what they are doing, it is always full. We had to wait half an hour for our table. I had the best eggs Benedict ever, this time with roasted honey ham that blew my mind. We had a very nice time in there and you should have it as well! Thank you.

Second time visiting with my family. Absolutely loved it! Perfect venue for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Wide variety of dishes served- cooked breakfasts, Continental breakfasts (pancakes, sweet French toast, traybakes etc), including vegetarian options. I had the vegetarian breakfast- absolutely gorgeous, don't even know how the haggis was made but loved it! Service was quick and efficient and waiter was very kindly. Coffee was also delicious. The setting topped it off- just love the interior design of the place, the artwork and the vibrant colours. Perfect place for writers, artists and musicians to congregate and receive some liquid inspiration.

Came here for lunch after hearing great things. How disappointed we were. The manager was helpful and friendly and he managed to find a seat. Once seated, it was very drafty and the chairs were uncomfortable. The coffee I ordered was very poor and bitter. The cutlery provided was dirty, and I’m not talking a slight bit of stubborn grease, I’m talking an evidently unwashed spoon and fork. My partner ordered eggs and found a large bit of egg shell in her dish. The staff did seem rushed, so this could well be a result of this, however for the higher than usual prices charged, and after hearing good things about this place we were very disappointed. Upon paying the bill, staff were disinterested and we didn’t feel like a valued customer. With the large amount of other lunch spots around Edinburgh, although this was not terrible, I would not rush back or recommend this place to other diners.

Visited this place on a Saturday waiting an hour for a table, finally seated and given our drinks we ordered food after an hour of sitting there having finished our drinks and still no food, and without anyone coming to ask if we wanted more drink etc, we asked the waitress who then disappeared for a further 15 minutes and when she finally appeared she was going on about how the kitchen didn’t have our order somehow making it sound like that was our fault. We said we wanted to leave as couldn’t wait another hour for food. The staff were more interested in chatting with themselves then having any interest in providing a good service to customers. Over rated restaurant, plenty of much better restaurants in Stockbridge with great customer service.

Arrived without booking at 10.15am for breakfast and offered a table that would be free in 10-15mins with a link sent to phone for queue, which was perfect as gave real time wait. Only had to wait 5-6mins Quickly seated, provided menus and ordered the excellent Pantry Fry each. Sausages proper tasty & eggs could how each of us preferred. Beautifully presented and accompanied by micro greens, which we loved. Coffee on point too and Oranfe Juice freshly squeezed, not the sugary bought stuff. Best of all the team are superb. Working away cleaning and serving but so pleasant as they do. Felt like nothing was too much bother. Excellent visit 😊

Stopped here on a walk through Stockbridge, we were seated straight away and the staff were great and attentive, the food took a while to come out approx. 40-50 minutes however it was the mid morning rush so this wasn’t an issue. The eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly along with the Sausage, egg and hash brown roll. The coffee was really creamy and one of the best I have tasted, would come back here again!

We went here on high recommendation from family, for brunch. Snuck in just before 11 so our table had ordered the full breakfasts, Sunshine on Leith and the waffles between us. Delicious coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, filling and healthy breakfasts that are packed with flavour and fabulous looking waffles with plenty of fruit. Husband is gluten free and there are plenty of options and a nice clear menu too. Lovely welcome, great service, fair prices, can't wait to visit again during our next trip to Edinburgh. Thank you.

New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
