Scotch egg was good but needed seasoning to be better, beef and oysters were okay, but a wee bit salty, scallops were great! Raw oysters were good but the dipping sauce was not. Meal would be better if there was something on the plate as...a side.More

Very nice oysters and menu in general at very reasonble prices. We tried every plate on the menu that was available (11 pcs). Our favorites were the tuna, the ceviche and the mussels. Very friendly staff and very helpful. The interior was nice but could...have been a bit cozier in that it was a bit crowded/busy.More

All I can say is wow! It's not often that food brings me to tears but everything we ate was absolutely excellent. The small plates idea gives the chance to try numerous different dishes and none disappointed. Definitely a treat meal but well worth it...and the staff were both friendly and informative about the dishes on offer. From the oysters, through the octopus to the cod I cannot praise this place enough and any seafood lover visiting Edinburgh has to have this place on their list.More

The food was delicious, particularly the broccoli (sides), seaweed slaw and tempura oyster. Seafood in general was excellent, super tasty. I’d also recommend the apple pie dessert and the rhubarb fizz cocktail. The decor was perfect, chairs were comfortable, and the service was excellent. Our...waitress Helga was engaging and charming, making the entire experience even better. This restaurant needs to be better known! Go here, it’s a hidden gem!!More

White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar could not have been a better experience. First, we were seated at the window seats and looked out on the Royal Mile and it was amusing watching people walk by to look at what we were eating and drinking....If you get a chance to sit at the window seats DO IT! The wait staff was fun and welcoming and helpful when we were deciding what to choose on the menu. We had three types of Oysters (him) a HUGE bowl of mussels and clams (him), chips (both), Hasselback potatoes (me...and there were 5 of them!!) and charred octopus (me). Neither of us had ever had seafood taste this good, or this clean. It was amazing, the octopus tasted almost like a good cut of beef. The drinks were amazing as well. It was a nice, leisurely dinner filled with delicious, well made food and was a great stop between tours. We will definitely be stopping here again.More

Not sure where to start. Service was very poor. 3 of the small plates, on what isn’t a huge menu were not available on a Saturday evening. Food came out lukewarm and just wasn’t up to the usual standards as we have dined here before....But we had waited so long for it to arrive we just ate it anyway. This was a meal out to celebrate an anniversary and it fell flat. Way off the mark guys. We won’t be returning.More

Fantastic experience, greeted by a very friendly front of house team, the restaurant itself is a nice modern look, comfortable seating and has a please ambience. The waiter who served us was very friendly throughout the experience and helped us with what wine to couple...with our meal. The food was beautiful but in particular loved the Oysters! Definitely worth a try If you find yourself in the mood for seafood!!More

Been here a number of times and look forward to it every time. Never really had a bad experience but that has just been shattered. Staff were great and fully understanding but they don't control the kitchen.... food was awful. Bland, burned and totally lacking...in any detail or attention. Your food is not cheap so sort out the kitchen issues please and give the paying customer what they deserve and stop providing inferior food. It will not bode well for you. We will be back because we believe, and hope, that this is a glitch which the owners will hopefully resolve quickly and get back to providing great seafood.More

Every dish we had was either virtually flavorless or actively bad. The restaurant had a weird fishy smell, and despite appealing photos online, did NOT have a good ambiance. The staff seemed overworked, and it took ages for anyone to take pictures our order and...then subsequently for our dishes to come. Do NOT go to the restaurant.More

Had a very very bad experience. The lady/waitress who received us was soooooo racist and disrespectful. We went without reservation but we were turned down even there are lots of vacant table. We have reserved the next day and waited outside till they open. One...white couple came without reservation/ walk in but this racist lady accepted them and was given a very nice table, while we were given the very end table even we requested to be transferred coz we came very early and there are lots of table which are empty. The service was real awkward and she really made us feel very uncomfortable. We are asians by the way. She lighted all the candles to all tables except ours. She served water to all tables except ours. The other male waiters were alright though. Food was overrated And expensive for its quality. Hope the management will see this review and do something about it. Racist lady. Eww! Excuse me! PleaseeeeMore

Wonderful bistrot. Casual but boujii! Absolutely our style the food was great. The wine was great. The oysters magnificent. The manageress Amy looked after us so well and her blonde colleague on the bar, sorry didn’t catch his name, I think he was Italian, he...was a hoot. This team have something amazing to offer that really elevates the experience. Well done all. Make sure you get the dirty crab fries they don’t disappoint. Also. Samphire. In a martinis?! Who knew!More

You'll find the White Horse Oyster bar at the opposite end of the Royal Mile from the Edinburgh castle. This small restaurant has limited seating plus the management does a good job of controlling the number of diners so the kitchen is not overwhelmed. Be...sure to make a reservation. The seafood is fresh from the North Sea and is excellent. We started with 6 plump and delicious shucked oysters that tasted like clear and cold ocean water. A tempura fried half lobster was a welcome and unexpected treat. The two dived harvested grilled scallops topped with fish roe were perhaps the best I've ever tasted. The grilled flat iron steak with two fried oyster was disappointing. The steak was cold and tough, while the oysters were ordinary compared to the fresh ones that started our meal. Our plate of shoestring crispy fried potatoes topped red crab and mayonnaise was filling and decadent. A bottle of sparkling white wine pairs well with everything on the menu. The White Horse serves small plates not large meals. So you can easily run up a huge tab sampling one great dish after another. A hearty dinner with wine will cost 75 pounds per person.More

We visited the venue to celebrate a special occasion as a couple. Food met all expectations and was delicious and fresh. The only downside was service on drinks which took a while. Apart from that we had a great experience.
