This is an excellent seafood restaurant in Old Town. I am not sure that they do any dishes that do not feature seafood, apart from sides, so if you are not big on seafood it's probably best to check before committing yourself to dine here.
The menu is in the style of tapas and when we were seated at our table, the waiter took time to explain the menu and to give advice on how much to order. The service from start to finish was excellent and all the dishes were very tasty and very nicely cooked. There is a good selection of wines.
It is quite a small eating area so I would advise making a reservation if you want to be sure of a table at a specific time. There is a bar area and it may be possible to eat at the bar if you can't get a table but I would check on that.

Just had second visit here and overall enjoyed much more than first time.
If you love oysters I highly recommend you visit during oyster happy hours for 'Buck a Shuck' where you can feast on Loch Fyne, Barra, Carlingford or Caledonian oysters for £1 each. Thats what we did and continued with a few small pates afterwards (sea bass, octopus, burrata were all great) as well as the charred sourdough with seaweed butter which is to die for! Crab straw fries were yummy but need to be eaten quickly before the 'fries' dry out.
This visit we avoided the overly spicy monkfish satay and meagre but pricey scallop dish and it was all the better for it.
We struggled to decide on wine but staff were happy to offer samples from bottles available by the glass which was appreciated.
It's not cheap but its not cheap food IYKWM!!

This was an unexpected treat. We happened to be passing and happened to be peckish so went in for a bite to eat knowing nothing about the place. The space was comfortable, furnished in a minimalist sort of way but very welcoming. The waiting staff and front of house were friendly and welcoming, informative and efficient. The menu is reassuringly limited and is split between dishes of typical tapas size to whole fish of the day size. There are one or two tempura options and also full seafood or half size platters. About two tapas size plates equate to a normal main course size. We opted for the lemon sole cooked whole on the bone in an extraordinarily delicious chicken stock, leek, onion and butter sauce, and a couple of small plates - lobster salad and seared tuna with seaweed butter sourdough bread. It was all simply delicious, and the salad in particular had a special freshness about it. The wine list has a bias towards white as you might expect but there is a choice of approximately eight reds and a handful of fizz options. There is a desert menu that we didn't feel able to sample after our fishy feast. We both left the premises on a gastronomic high promising ourselves a return visit. The cost including two glasses of fizz was £81. Not particularly cheap but reasonable value in the circumstances.

Excellent quality of food served by friendly staff. Nicely presented albeit bijou portions, even for nouvelle cuisine. Notwithstanding the Royal Mile location, the prices were still steep & one left feeling hungry. Alcohol prices on a par with Scandinavia, though at least a glass was no more expensive than a carafe or bottle. Delicious food & great for a treat, not somewhere I’d frequent often though.

LOVE this place, it's been a couple of years since I have been and I was delighted to be going back today.
We had some "Buck a Shuck" oysters while we perused the menu. We opted for the house platter with some small plates. We asked the waiting staff for an indication of how much we should order for 3 so we had the platter, satay monkfish, salt n pepper tempura prawns, crab fried and some bread. It was ample for 3.
I finished with cheese and my Mum had pannacotta.
Great service and superb food.
Canny wait to go back

Came for dinner last weekend for the first time with friends. Nice place, well appointed and good atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable staff ( Spanish manageress v good).
We had several starters and a seafood platter - all pretty solid, well cooked and presented throughout. Marinated Octopus, Crab, Lobster, Tempura, several types of oysters, chilli smoked salmon, good bread and hasselback potatoes.
All in all, really liked the place, could perhaps do with a little more experimentation on the food side to push the envelope a bit (it was all a little safe) and perhaps have offered some Imperial/Colchester Oysters (three out of four variations of rock oysters available) but we thoroughly enjoyed our evening all in all.

What a great idea for seafood, it was so nice to share such exquisite tastes from Crab Scotch Egg to Monkfish Satay. They also do Seafood Platters, which looked amazing, I overheard the lady next to me saying it was the best she had tasted. My one negative comment is that they had one table too many along their back wall, there was hardly room to get in and out, and I wouldn't like to see an overly large person trying to do it. Instead of feeling you had a table for two, you actually felt joined to the tables either side of you. The staff were very informative and attentive without being overbearing. Overall it was a lovely evening. If you are going I would suggest you go in a party of at least four, that way you will probably be seated at a better option.

Good service really good example of small menu well executed
Only negatives - wine list short of numbers due to supplier issues. Can take better wines for this quality didnt like sauce in beautiful cooked mussels

Me and my girlfriend visited for lunch during the EOHO scheme, wow what a find! The food and service is second to none, our waitress Julia was very friendly and professional and helped recommend certain dishes to try on the menu. The presentation of the food as well as the taste is absolutely beautiful and I would not hesitate to come back again to try different dishes. My personal favourite was the octopus which I have attached a picture below. Great place highly recommended!

We visited the White Horse in May. This was truly one of the best dining experiences I have ever had.
On arrival we were welcomed into the simple but fresh looking restaurant and shown to a lovely table for two. The team were welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable. and eager to ensure we had the most wonderful experience.
The advice offered regarding the oyster choice and the other food choices was incredibly helpful. My partner had never tried oysters before so we valued the advice.
The service team maintained the perfect balance of being attentive and giving us space to enjoy an intimate/romantic food experience.
The food was some of the most beautifully presented and cooked seafood I have ever eaten. The Charred Octopus was tender, tasty and so fresh. All of the seafood tasted so fresh, the mussels were the best mussels I have ever eaten and even something as simple as the sourdough was exceptional and perfect for dipping into the white wine sauce.
The chef and team in the kitchen clearly have a passion for seafood and presentation. The wine list was excellent and reasonably priced, the perfect Chenin Blanc accompanied our meal.
It is one thing to find exceptionally sourced and prepared seafood, to then add in perfect ambiance, and exceptional service made this experience completely memorable.
I was actually emotional, possibly the return to some normality during a pandemic had a part to play in that. Genuinely though I have eaten seafood in lots of places by the ocean in different countries and never in my wildest dream did I expect the some of the best seafood I have ever eaten to be on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Truly exceptional all round. Cannot wait to visit next May.

Oyster bar with 2/3 types of oysters available. 1/3 of wines were not available too, one of the 8 dishes on the menu is not available too. Great!
They serve food whenever it’s ready so no effort to make us eat our dinner the same time, I was finished way before my friends dishes came out
Seafood platter at £100, small, not worth it at all. Side dishes also at ridiculous £8 for the size
Waiting staff soulless, place was too bright for dinner.. nothing worked, so many more places around in the town for good seafood

Visited on a busy Saturday night a few days after the 10pm curfew was announced. The staff were all very friendly and polite on arrival instantly making you feel at ease. The food is amazing, we had oysters in three different styles, mussels, monkfish, tuna and a lemon brûlée to finish. Couldn’t fault it and we’d recommend it to anyone taking a trip to Edinburgh. A special mention for Julia who looked after us, perfect service and elevated the experience from really good to outstanding. We’ll be back at the first chance we get. Marc

Husband wanted to tick off his bucket list trying oysters. So as they give you the option to order 3 for £9, we felt that was worth a visit.
The waiter was very helpful, advising which ones were the best for a first time try. Slightly pricey but definitely worth a visit.

This was my second trip here, the the service was excellent and the food enjoyable I feel it is a wee bit on the pricey side/vs portion size. We started with some oysters and cava (both delicious) it’s frustrating that every day except Saturday there is oyster happy hour, it would be nice to have this option in the afternoon. We then had the hot platter this is designed for 2 people we got it for 4 with bread and fries then went back for small plates. We had the beef, octopus, scotch egg, monkfish satay. All lovely and I know they are advertised as “small plates” but given they ranged from £9.50-£14.50 price wise, shared between 4 you didn’t get more than a mouthful of each.
I would return but probably for a special occasion

What an absolute find this place is.
The seafood was amazing
Half price Oysters before 5pm was just what we needed. Washed down with a chilled bottle of Cava.
The crab and fries were delicious 😋
We would absolutely go again.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
