Classic pub with great food & huge selection of drinks. Friendly accommodating staff. Convenient location.
Amazing food. We ordered a few snacks to share between us and everything was amazing. Highly recommend the fajita and the waffle fries.
Pop in here on occasions for a quick bite of food and to meet friends/family. Good bar food, tasty and well priced. I’ve found the staff mostly welcoming and the atmosphere relaxed. Will continue to visit.
I visited the Mash Tun with 9 members of my family. The orders took well over an hour to arrive, despite enquiring several times what the delay was. Some of the food arrived earlier but they had mixed up the order. I was for finally...served (see photo) a portion of regular nachos £9.50 but it was just a small bowl of tortilla chips covered with sour cream. When I queried the size & where were he rest of the accompaniments as per the menu, I was told by the server that this was the standard size and that he doesn't make the prices. I was told there was no cheese or guacamole & after complaining, I was given a tiny bowl of salsa on the side. I have eaten in here before and been satisfied with the quality and quantity but not in this occasion. All out food came at different times and because of mixing up the order, some if the accompaniments were cold by the time the rest arrived. No apologies of any sincerity, the server clearly couldn't be bothered. A very disappointing visit.More
Went in for a quiet drink at lunchtime on a Friday to meet a client. Was 'greeted' by a blonde haired Irish bartender who seemed indifferent - that I was a inconvenience. Her Irish friend/colleague/flatmate was lying sprawled on the couch as if she had...falling from the sky. The table beside her was littered with all manner of things and she gave the impression she was hungover. The bartender and friend continued with a loud personal conversation across the bar for some time. I reminded them that this was a bar and not a bedsit and if they wanted to socialise while at work - at least sit together and not shout across the entire bar back and forth. We couldn't hear ourselves speak. My remark was met with discontent. Shame really - I used to go to The Mash Tun all the time before COVID - next time, I'll check who is on duty before entering. I appreciate hospitality is struggling to recruit staff - but professional conduct is expected.More
Came here to watch the football after coming here once before and really enjoyed it. The food is great pub food and still is, however on this occasion the bar staff (only one member of staff working) was very disinterested and rude. Half of the...beers on tap weren’t working either. I would return however if greeted like this again I would go elsewhereMore
What a welcome! Few bars offer such personable and charismatic customer service. Gemma is one of a kind and the atmosphere of this venue is only improved by her presence.
We stumbled on this pub the first night we arrived in Edinburgh. The bar staff quickly accommodated a large group of 10 at 8 pm, which was a welcome surprise as we had been turned away from other establishments. The food was delicious and the...staff were very helpful. If you're in the area -- stop in.More
Attended for a quick bite of dinner before the football game. Didn’t expect much, as it looked like a standard pub catering for the football crowd. However I was intrigued by the names for dishes on the menu, and very pleasantly surprised when the food...arrived. Well presented, but more importantly absolutely delicious. The staff were friendly and visible, without being pushy and “in your face”. If we play Hibs again, this will be a definite port of call for me.More
Went here last night with my kids. Was taken with the pre football match vibe. Service was very quick and friendly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for the young woman with the Doctor Martin Boots. It’s not a fancy place. Just a...good honest pub that does decent pub food at a reasonable price. Yes. I will go back.More
Stopped by for food and some drinks. Initially impressed - seemed to have a good, relaxed vibe. Drinks were on the expensive side for what it is - north of £6 a pint. We encountered the same service issues others have - very laidback but...without much in the way of attention or respect for the fact you’re the customer. But it was the food which was the major issue - a burger ordered without cheese and sauce, due to a dietary restriction, arrived with both. It was returned, though the member of staff didn’t apologise. Sadly when it was replaced it was clear the chef had simply scraped off the cheese and dipped it back in the fryer, leaving remnants still on the patty. Simply not good enough, not at all respectful of dietary needs and a way to lose a regular spend on the premises.More
I like to support a relative local but they make it difficult. Food is generally good. Service very variable. Some good staff and others who would seem to be doing the customers a favour by serving them. They also need to decide what the opening...hours are. Friday - they advertise open till 1am. They called last orders at 5 minutes past midnight!More
Arrived to find no staff member was aware of our table booking. Ordered food using the QR code however hadn’t noticed that there was an error showing and when we questioned as to why our food was taking so long was told they hadn’t received...an order. On checking my phone I discovered the order hadn’t gone through. The staff member told me it had been declined which wasn’t the case as there was more than sufficient funds. So we re ordered with the staff member, hoping it wouldn’t take too long as we had an event to go to, staff member then returns to say one of the dishes wasn’t available so now another delay while another dish was ordered. The first 3 dishes are then served, one of which was only just warm then a further delay waiting on my meal. The food was average. Apparently the chef was a bit overwhelmed with orders. My husband went to pay but was just being ignored as the staff member who had been serving us was more interested in chatting with her friends and the other staff members didn’t seem to notice my husband who’s 6’4 standing with a payment card next to the till. So in short, poor service, terrible attitude, food edibleMore
I and 3 friends ordered meals separately through the app and completed the order within 1 minute of each other, 3 of us received our meals at the same time however 1 of us sat waiting for between 10 and 15 minutes (to the point...I had to enquire as to whether it was coming at all) the meals that arrived at the same time were tepid at best, the portion sizes were fine and the taste was good but I left all but 1 fry as they were cold and unappealing. When I eventually registered a complaint the server offered a completely unconvincing apology and accepted the blame for the mistakes made. After some time she returned with an offer of recompense which frankly wasn’t adequate in the form of discount from our next order of drinks. When our plates were cleared we were asked how our meal was and I gave a frank review to which the new server made the excuse that the person whom had served our table was new (I understand that she was unfamiliar with this but surely she should be checked upon from time to time), the person clearing the table said she would inform the manager (who incidentally had his staff meal which was the same as the one we waited for at the same time our other 3 came out) we sat and waited for a response and watched as he sneered and shot a look of disdain in our direction. We left without leaving a tip and quite frankly had we not paid before receiving our food we would’ve refused payment for the majority of it. As an additional comment there were 3 tables eating with 4 staff on shift so we can’t even put it down to a chaotic period. To sum up the food was tasty but cold and the service was terrible, 3 of us work in the food service industry and 2 of us are at management level, we couldn’t fathom how this business can continue like this.More
