The lady who greeted us at the door rather than say hello and make us feel welcome, the older lady who seemed to be in charge just gave us a massive row about being 5 minutes late and told us she will be throwing us...out in exactly 2 hours time so we had better get a move on! The other staff made every effort to give us a nice time but the whole experience was ruined from the moment we entered the restaurant. The absolute worst, so unbelievably rude.More

First time here and won`t be the last. I`m not personally a huge fan of Spanish tapas but my wife loves it so...That said, I thought the food was fantastic. I had the meatballs and the chorizo and the patatas bravas. All excellent. The service...was great and the server very knowledgeable and attentive. The price was also very reasonable at £50 for 2 with wine. Ideal location for the Playhouse too. Would 100% recommend.More

We visited for an early dinner. We ordered a selection of smaller hot plates which arrived almost instantly. The food was okay, however the only thought we had was that it wasn’t prepared to order but came from a large pot and was just kept...hot. Will not go back.More

A great pre theatre dinner spot. We shared a few different choices on the menu and enjoyed them all. The waitress recommended 2 plates per person and this was definitely enough. The waitresses were very helpful and attentive.

This really is a gem of a place. Authentic, delicious, tapas, and incredible portion sizes. Interesting wines and wonderful staff. This place really did exceed our expectations, and is not to be missed. Just wish we lived nearer! We will definitely be back!

One of my favourite places. Very reasonably priced. House wine is drinkable tempranillo or a vardejo. Spanish tapas. Generous portions. Only two tapas per head is adequate. Meal including wine around £30 a head. Food is great. Friendly and efficient service. It's so good that...I'm a regularMore

Our little dinner club decided the theme for the night was Spanish so we had to try La Sal. The food was delicious. We were happy with the variety of tapas and wanted to order more. There were good vegetarians options as well. We ordered...one dish each and a few to share and it ended up being incredibly filling. The food was good, tasty, fresh. Unfortunately there was a medical emergency when we were there which was outwith the control of the restaurant but they acted well, calling an ambulance, helping the lady, cleaning up blood quickly, etc there isn’t much they can do on their end for that and it’s not their fault. The food was good. The place was small but cosy. The sangría was good. Food came quickly and hot, fresh and delicious. All in all it was a great visit.More

We have been to la sal half a dozen times over the past few years and been happy with the offer but this visit was disappointing. The food seemed to have changed in approach and wasn't as good quality or as authentic. The dishes, which...used to be served in tapas dishes or bowls were all served in metal balti pans, for curry, which really didn't work with tapas especially for the gambas pil pil which should be sizzling in oil in the dish they're cooked in, but were just served in a balti dish without the flavourful oil for dipping bread. The service is lovely and the potential is good, we have enjoyed earlier visits but this was either an off day in the kitchen or a change of approach that doesn't work for us. Don't think we would go back now.More

We dined here before an evening show at the fringe. We had heard good things. The service and staff were really good. Although we did notice that some staff were super friendly and others were not as mush. The menu is quite small but still...good choices. We went for a few smaller dishes. We thought the potatoes were nice but the garlic sauce on top was overpowering and, actually, too garlicky. The other dishes were not bad but nothing was very tasty. The value was reasonable. And the staff were on spot on.More

We don't live locally but had visited La Sal before, a couple of years ago and wanted to repeat the experience. We had absolutely sumptuous Carrillada Iberica (pigs' cheeks braised in red wine for half-a-day), Pavia, which are delicious pieces of Cod in a very...thin, crispy, tempura batter, and Pastel Berenjena, perfectly baked Aubergine in an onion, tomato, and almond sauce. For desserts we thoroughly enjoyed Tarta Quesos with an intense, fruit sauce and Tarta Santiago, an orange flavoured, feather light almond flour sponge with ice cream. Wine and beers were spot on and, most importantly, service was warm, friendly but also speedy and efficient. The whole experience was delightful and we would commend La Sal to anyone looking for unfussy but top flight and beautifully judged Spanish cuisine. Which, if you're not familiar with it, give it a try! We will be back in the future.More

Wow. This restaurant is superb for many reasons. The staff are polite, professional and helpful. The young waiter we had was one of the best. The tapas was delicious. A wide range of authentic dishes that were tasty and well presented. Having visited various restaurants...while on a mini break in Edinburgh, this restaurant was certainly the best for value for money. Would certainly visit again and would highly recommend to any locals or visitors to this city.More

Slightly away from the main tourist area so nice to find somewhere a bit quieter. Great selection of tapas, served piping hot and at a reasonable price. Generous portions and good service. We enjoyed everything we ordered.

Excellent tapas at a reasonable price not only for Edinburgh which is ridiculously expensive but I'd be happy to pay these prices for this quality anywhere. My waiter, Tiago (spelled correctly, thank you very much), was attentive, knowledgeable and fun. When he told me it...was only his 2nd day, I was flabbergasted. I will definitely be back but only if Tiago has completed his 'trial' and is getting paid (I know, right 🙄).More
