Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice wee pub, friendly welcome, good beer and the halloumi burger was excellent. Was in the neighbourhood and made a great choice. Also the steak pie was delicious. Yum. Keep up the good work.

On our first evening in Edinburgh we got the advise of going to take our dinner at the old bel in. Nice pub, good food. We took for starters the haggis nibs and shrimps. Main course the steak pie which was very tasteful with mash...and fries. I recommend this place.More

We arrived for lunch at 1pm having booked a table to be told the booking had been put in for previous day but were quickly shown to a table. The server brought menus and immediately said there was no steak pie as they were only...just making it! Disappointed we ordered and mains arrived and were very nice. Later we decided to order deserts but again were told there was no apple pie. This left only ice cream or sticky toffee pudding the latter arriving lukewarm. Altogether disappointing.More

Great Family Thursday Night Catch Up. The Atmosphere - fun & lively (Football was being shown) The Staff/Team - efficient & engaging. The Food - Great Food, Great Portions, Great Presentation & (Most of All) Great Tasting. Between the Five of us, we ordered: Old...Bell Steak Pie Haggis Neeps and Tatties (Me - Loved it) IPA Battered Haddock Fried Halloumi Burger Breaded Scampi The food was ordered swiftly, delivered efficiently & ‘polished off’ swiftly. We were all very well looked after by the team - Bravo to The Old Bell Team. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A GREAT Pint of Guinness, is served in this establishment.More

Went with my family for dinner on vacation and it was fantastic. The steak and ale pie was incredible and the sticky toffee was amazing. The service was perfect and would go again if ever possible! Not as touristy of a spot as well making...it ideal for a more local experience.More

We had dinner at the Old Bell Inn a couple of times. The fish and chips were good, but the steak & ale pie was our favorite. The portions were huge, so we asked for an extra plate, and shared. We liked the decor of...this old pub. The patrons and staff were friendly. Dogs were welcome, and behaved well. The restrooms were clean and well stocked.More

Amazing pub with very friendly staff who went out their way to look after a very large group of hockey ladies representing the NE of England. We arrived on Friday night without warning and the service we all received was first class! Delicious food. We...had the large upstairs function room booked for the Saturday night and again the food did not disappoint, with about 55 people eating. The bar staff were amazing too keeping everyone watered!! Well done to everyone at The Old Bell. Will definitely be back. Many thanks 👍🏻More

Cracking pub. The bar staff are amazing and friendly, couldn’t do more for the rather large group of raucous hockey family arriving unannounced on the Friday evening. Served us all separately with lots of different food and drinks orders. Couldn’t have been better. Fab food...and Guinness. For our organised after hockey matches on Saturday we got the upstairs where they have a full bar and seating Excellent service. Booked for approx 35 people - ended up being double that. They took it in their stride and kept us fed and watered! Really great venue with fab staff. Will be back again next year.More

Looking for a venue to cater for a large group of people and came across the old bell. They accommodated the NE ladies master hockey for 2 night. With the 2nd night having access to the function room where we was served some lovely food....The staff went above and beyond to make us all welcome and ensure we was happy. Definitely a place to visitMore

Brilliant hospitality towards a large group of hockey girls representing the North of England in a tournament staying in Edinburgh. Catered for us on the saturday evening and even doubled our numbers for food last minute without an issue. The food was amazing, plentiful and...very good value for money...and we aren't easy to please ! Very friendly and couldn't have found a more welcoming place. Definitely coming back next year if they'll have us :)More
