When visiting Edinburgh make sure to vosit this street. For dinner, we went to this pub and had Haggis and fish&chips. The food was good and came hot and we didn't have to wait for is long. They had a one man band who was covering aoldies this evening which added to the atmosphere. Staff was friendly although that might... More

We had a great time in the Rose and Crown. They reintroduced me to gin Edinburgh gin specifically and the food was spot on at a great price. The service was good and the haggis was delicious, my Norwegian partner now. Loves haggis and the burger was cooked to perfection (not burnt black like most pubs) would highly recommend and... More

Stopped off for afternoon drinks and enjoyed a busy friendly atmosphere. We had already eaten but the food looked good.

This is a great little pub. There was a band on who were brilliant and had everyone singing and dancing. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The staff are really friendly too. We will be coming back to Edinburgh soon and this little gem us in our list to visit.

Good knowledge of the beers on offer and they'll happily let you taste a few if you're keen on something new. Solidly good pub food. Can definitely recommend the wee cheesy haggis burger. Good range of beers and whiskys. Relaxed atmosphere

We stumbled upon the Rose and Crown while walking New Town. Not bad for a beer. The clientele appeared to be mostly local. This is where we learned about Williams Brothers brewery and learned to enjoy several beers from this brewery on our trip.

Great location. Offers wonderful food and service. Staff are friendly and welcoming. You can eat in downstairs in the bar area or upstairs in the restaurant. Either offer excellent service and value for money. Sit outside summer or winter and just watch the world go by

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
