Montpeliers was recommended by our host as a good place to have dinner, just a short walk from our flat. The menu is upscale and the food well prepared, so no complaints, I was just not "wowed" by the meal...this could be as simple as jet lag, so don't let this stop you from trying this fine establishment. The beer... More

Took our new puppy Max to Montpellier's for our lunch. The staff were so good and welcoming. Food was really nice. Sharing platter was our favourite by far. Max looking forward to his return there too.

Came here for a family brunch and didn't eat for the rest of the day! Chose the 'diminutive' Monty breakfast over the Full Monty and couldn't finish it all. Very popular restaurant at all times so booking is essential. Worth a visit but leave your calorie counter at home!

I visited Montpelliers on Sunday for a friends birthday. We were more there for the pre-cinema bubbly. I was pleasantly surprised by the completely vegan (yaaaas) vegetable Thai green curry! It wasn't as seasoned as I would make at home however very enjoyable nonetheless. The absolute highlight of our visit however, was our super gorgeous waitress Daniella who was so... More

Arrived 45 min early for our pre booked table. But because there were 5 of us we were given a table for 4 with an add on at one end - despite booking weeks in advance. No problem. Staff cortious and welcoming. Sharing starter fine but mains all a disappointment. Not the cheapest of restaurants and there are several in the... More

Enjoyed the French toast & abundance of bacon once again. It is one of the best places in Edinburgh for for savoury French toast lovers. Service is pleasant but what irritated me was that there was a £1 added to our bill for Social Bite. I'm happy to contribute money to charity but I'd rather that the card was left... More

Visited this place with a friend for lunch and we hadn't booked but the waiter accommodated us with a window table on the proviso that we were out within an hour and a quarter. The food was pretty mediocre and the service something to behold. A spare seat at our table was taken away and our belongings had to go... More

Have always heard great things about Montpeliers but never ever seemed to make it. When my client suggested this as the venue I was delighted and it did not disappoint. Very well trained staff were super attentive and the decor is fabulous. It was only a tea and a latte but the staff still did check backs and were chatty... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
