The metro restaurant is located in Apex hotel and head chef is local Tony Singh who's menu has a twist on east meets west. Staff guided us through the menu and sharing platters are an excellent way of tasting dishes you probably would not choose yourself but this way allows you sample. As a one off experience we recommend everybody... More

We had dinner here one night as we stayed in this hotel. Their Mushroom Soup was very good; fish was average. Service great.

We escaped the busy grass market and a group of us went to the bar to drink a mixture of cocktails and wine. The cocktails were competitively priced but a large glass of red wine was over £9 a bit steep, we thought.

The great thing about this restaurant - and the hotel - is the superb, caring and friendly staff. The food is consistently just-ok but when combined with the great staff is perfect if you've been travelling hard and and want some no-hassle dinner nourishment. Breakfast is a treat also.

Close to our hotel. Great service. Terrible food for dinner. Frozen butter with cold bread. High prices for small portions, entrees were tasteless. Wish we would've known not to go here.

Around 20 of us "popped in" to this Pop In Restaurant (ok, we did book first, but only one day in advance) and we decided to try most of the dishes on the menu with a view to sharing! What an inspred fusion menu and these examples summed it up...Haggis Pakora, Chicken Tikka Pie and Burritos featuring instead of beans,... More

This is a review for the 'Pop-up' they put on with Tony Singh. The Indian street food menu looked amazing from the outside, however once we were in it was one of the most disappointing and ridiculous meals I've had. From the waiters embarrassingly saying they weren't allowed to give our real knives and forks (instead we were left with... More

We ate early to make a show, thought the place lacked atmosphere. Had Tony Singh's pop-up menu and it seemed like the staff were less than convinced by the idea. Food was tasty and although the servings on disposable plates seemed small we found the food "filling" The Brasserie was a bit like a canteen and seemed out of place... More

Came here with my husband after a day out at the fringe, booked the 5pm offer, and I must say was great value for the money, we both had mushroom and goats cheese terrine which was lovely and I had pork belly to follow and my husband had fish and chips, now although the portions were not massive, they were... had to battle for cheese and biscuits after desserts. Cheese and biscuits were not on the menu but I could have them via room service after 11.00pm. After an "interesting" discussion with manageress they finally arrived. Don't order your cooked breakast until you have finished your entree because they won;t wait it'll be at your elbow before you are ready

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
