Nice atmosphere and very tasty food. Our second time at the restaurant and both times have been incredible! The best haggis I have ever tasted.

Absolutely fantastic little place in Edinburgh, what a great find! Loads of veggie and vegan options, which is why we decided to give it a go. So glad we did! The food was glorious, and the service was fantastic! David was our server and he...could not have been friendlier or more helpful! Highly recommended to all!More

I so wanted to give a bad review as was looking forward to the owners reply(they do make me laugh) but there is no way on earth I could. I was so pleased to book this way ahead of our holiday, we came here twice...once with a food tour and for our booking. Not going to say too much other than food and service was all excellent and very reasonably priced. Need to open one in London. Our No1 restaurant while touring Scotland.More

Delicious food and friendly service! Well, there is a reason this restaurant is number 1 in Edinburgh, not only the food is absolutely delicious the staff is friendly and you feel like you are at home! We were served by David and we couldn’t have...ask for a better person, he was polite, funny, friendly! Thumbs up for David :)! We loved the food so so much, haggis was top quality so was the lamb shank, and the beef shoulder was so tender you could eat it -literally- with a spoon! If you are in Edinburgh you must eat in this restaurant! :)More

Excellent food with Brilliant service. We happened to be walking past and popped in to see if we could have lunch without having a table booked, it was very busy but they where very accommodating and found us a table. Big menu for meat eaters...and veggies and vegans. My other half had the highland coo sausages and said they are the best sausages she has ever had. I had the veggie sausages and they where equally delicious. Mash is second to none. Services was super friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back.More

Both the food and service was outstanding - it’s our third time here and we visit everytime we come to Edinburgh. On this occasion we forgot to book, but the staff went out of their way to see if a table was available during peak...hours. Service was prompt and attentive and the food was just *chefs kiss* good! Our waitress had black hair and was in her mid-twenties, I regret not taking her name for this review as she was amazing and deserves a raise! Honestly, this independent restaurant has it going on! Well done staff and management.More

Visited for late lunch on arrival in Edinburgh. Having read the reviews, we were keen to try Makars Mash Bar for ourselves. It did not disappoint. David, our server, made us feel very welcome, was very knowledgeable about the menu and made a few recommendations....I had the crispy smoked bacon and spring onion mash with the char grilled chicken. My husband had the black pudding mash with the wild boar sausage. Both dishes were fabulous, well presented and just enough to fill us up. Comfort food at its absolute best! David was attentive, friendly and chatty, without being over the top. Will definitely be back next time were in Edinburgh 😊😋More

Decided to book this based on its high rank on Trip Advisor for restaurants in Edinburgh. We arrived a bit earlier than our planned booking but pleasing our table was ready. We sat down and after a short wait our drinks and food order was...taken. Sadly at this point the staff failed to press the "fire" button meaning our order was not pushed through to the kitchen. So some 40 mins later and after realising the next table who arrived after us and got their food before us, we flagged down a member of staff to point out the issue. Shortly after the food arrived and whilst my wild boar sausages and cheese & chive mash were nice, I wasn't blown away and I certainly don't understand the 5 stars it has gained. Perhaps it was overshadowed by our particular experience?! I have to mention the error was fully acknowledged by staff and a discount applied which we were very appreciative of.....however overall I can honestly only really give this 3 stars.More

We walked in on a Wednesday night towards the end of their opening time and were easily accommodated. They have an outside space now too. I would suggest to improve your chances go for an early tea!
