Came here on a Wednesday for lunch and have to say the food and service was splendid! The portions were generous and we really enjoyed the haggis starter. The staff were friendly and attentive we were definitely stuffed by the end of the meal.
A wet night in Edinburgh. We were made very welcome to this restaurant. Our waiter, David, was very sociable and made us feel at home. The food was excellent and loved having the choice of mash. We had Haggis which can be highly recommend. Good...choice of desert and a selection of Whisky. When in Scotland……. An excellent choice when in Edinburgh.More

A feeling of home is exactly what we aim to offer. Amazing to hear we delivered. Thank you very much for a review that goes straight to our heart !
In 10 years together, this is the first place my wife and I have found that we both loved and neither of us had to compromise on our choice so the other could eat here. Superb friendly and relaxed servers, amazing food and great surroundings...and it's not part of any chain which is always a plus. As a restaurant manager my self I am notoriously hard to please but this places is one of the best I've eaten in, well done guys, wonderful. Thank you.More
So going to a highly praised place I was fully expecting it to be overly hyped. But I can hand on heart say this place is amazing. Great location just off the Royal Mile with great views over the city.
Food is inventive, quirky and...fun and you can tell the servers love what they do. Who’d have thought you could do so much with the humble potato.
Only downside we had to wait for 10 minutes but it was seriously well worth it!
And nice local beers too. Go there!!More
Having never really had Scottish food before and being vegetarian, I was skeptical as to whether it would be for me but I also wanted to try.
Makars is well worth the trip! The food was absolutely sensational. They have lots of choice, particularly their...plant-based/vegetarian options and the food felt traditionally Scottish. Generous portion sizes and the mash tasted incredible. I’m so glad we went - I’d highly recommend!More
We have been on a busy Saturday evening, even though it was extremely busy they have managed the situation very well and made us to wait a bit, after a while we had an amazing place! Ordered the soup of the day , tried scotch...egg for the first time and of course their special mash potatoes with lamb shanks and chicken. All of the food was amazing that I can’t say anything on top of it, chefs are super talented for sure! Special thanks to all the team, Emily and Kate for all their patience, welcoming and warm service. Definitely will come again and recommend this place!!!More
The perfect lunch - stopped by (having booked) for lunch at about three after a long day visiting the Uni. Warm welcome, friendly staff, fab beer and cider, absolutely delicious food (melt in the mouth beef and succulent wild boar sausages. Mash - just fabulous,...sticky toffee pud light and just the right amount of sweet with super creamy ice-cream). We honestly couldn’t have had a nicer, more restorative lunch. Would highly recommend.More

Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
