Burgers and Beers Grillhouse stands out in the heart of the old town for its diverse and high-quality burger selection, which caters to various dietary needs and comes with tasty side dishes, as guests have called out. The friendly and attentive staff contribute to the restaurant's welcoming and relaxed ambiance, though some diners find the music too loud. While the efficient service results in commendable wait times, even for those without reservations, reviewers warn that the pricing may feel steep, especially with extra charges for sides and sauces.

Warm welcome from the outset is what you're greeted with at Burgers and Beer, we were welcomed in by a very friendly member of staff and advised there may be a 5-10 minute wait for a table as they were full currently, enough time to grab a drink at the bar whilst we waited! Amazing selection of spirits and some great beers to choose from, Spiced Rum for me and a flavoured gin for the better half, the bar tender was very friendly and knowledgeable on drink recommendations and why. We were then taken through to the main dining area which is slightly cramped but nothing to be overly concerned about, very cool interior design and great choice of food on the menu, we both opted for burgers and were certainly not disappointed! Seen some reviews about dry patties but this was one of the juiciest, tastiest burgers I think I've ever had, complimented well with the choice of sauces on each burger they really went down a treat. Would highly recommend for some great food, drinks and great atmosphere!

Went into Edinburgh with the intention of eating at a certain bar, but finding it closed down due to the covid crisis ongoing we chose to eat here instead. With the 50% offer on of eating out still applying it made it even more appetising to go in. We were warmly greeted at the door, and shown to our table, and talked through the track and trace stuff we had to do. As i had no charge on my phone, our waiter Steven did it for us. He went through the menu with us explained all the meals and what he recommended, and we ordered 2 pints of maltsmiths. My wife ordered the dirty burger and i the uncle sam, neither comes with chips so we had a side of ordinary fries and one of sweet potato chips. When they came they were delicious. The uncle same was cooked to perfection. Meat was moist, and the lettuce, tomato in the bun was fresh and crunchy. The fries were crispy, a really nice burger lunch. The dirty burger, was the same with everything fresh and tender meat. Drinks i found though were on the expensive side, at £5.75 a pint, which i why i give it 4/5 rating, but thats the only negative i could find in the place. I would definately think about returning here on my next visit to Edinburgh though

Thanks for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review Dave! I'm pleased to hear the staff were helpful when it came to the track and trace procedures, I know that everywhere is doing it slightly differently so we are doing are best to make it as easy as possible. Our drink prices are fairly comparable to other city centre restaurants and bars in Edinburgh however I will pass your comments along to the rest of the management team. I'm glad you enjoyed the food, our burgers really are the best in town! Hope to see you again soon! Mercedes

Impressive, friendly service by Waiter, Jack. Knowledgeable and considerate adding value with information on top attractions in the City to heritage and recommendations on whiskies. If the name of the place doesn't give away the speciality of the place, that is exactly what it will be recommended for....beers and burgers. Tried half roast chicken with lovely tangy sauce accompaniment. Portion little small, maybe poultry is this small in Scotland? Social distancing on layout of tables not as thought out as other establishments though cleanliness and track and trace discipline in place. The diner is eligible for Government's "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme.

Our first night in Edinburgh and our first experience at Burgers and Beer. My husband is a vegetarian due to a meat intolerance and only a meat intolerance. His VEGAN burger came with BACON on it!!! It was taken away and returned relatively quickly making us think they just took the bacon off and returned the burger to the table! My burger came and it was a black over cooked tasteless Pattie for the pricey sum of £11.95! Then there’s the chip saga, (an extra £4.95) they put A LOT of salt on them but don’t tell you, they just tell you they HAVE to put salt on them! completely spoilt them! When I mentioned my half eaten burger at the time it came to collect the plates I was told they have to cook the burgers a certain way, in my opinion a burger can be cooked properly without the need to be a black tooth breaking experience!

Hi Claire, First off I would like to apologise that your experience with us was not up to our usually high standards! I've looked into this personally and the people from the appropriate departments have been spoken with. I can assure you that the bacon was not just removed and the same burger sent back out. Luckily our vegan patties are quite popular so there was another one just about ready to be sent out for a different order which we instead made your husbands new burger from. We do take allergens extremely seriously and all members involved in the transaction are having a training refresher to ensure this does not ever happen again. As for the fries we do add our own in house seasoning salt to them, however upon request they can be made without salt. I'm sorry if this was not offered to you when you raised the issue with your server. Our local and fresh beef burgers are required to be cooking thoroughly through by Scottish law which we do on our open char-grill resulting in blackened edges. It should however still be moist and juicy inside! All in all I am sorry your experience with us missed the mark. This is not how we usually do things and I hope if you're ever back in Edinburgh you will give us another shot! Mercedes

I had high hopes for burgers and beers, on paper this should have been an ideal restaurant for me. I like burgers, and I like beer. I saw this and naively thought I'd be in for a great experience, but sadly not. I'll give them credit for my pint, I asked for a pint of Heineken and had no complaints about that. What came in my glass was definitely beer and to all intents and purposes it did what beer should. It came cold and tasted like Heineken, so 10/10 for serving drinks. The staff were also friendly and helpful so I'm not going to blame them for what came next. For my food I ordered a build your own burger with beef, blue cheese, buffalo sauce and TLO (tomato, lettuce and onions) and a side of monkey fingers (battered chicken fingers with buffalo sauce). The monkey fingers were decent and if the burger hadn't sucked every drop of moisture out of my head I might have enjoyed them, but sadly this isn't enough to drag my review up to 2 stars. My burger came and the first thing I noticed was the tomato, lettuce and onion hanging out of the side like a labrador sticking its head out of a car window. The tomato and onion was cut so thick that I locked my jaw trying to fit it in my mouth and any flavour that might have been in the beef itself was lost as the taste of onion was so strong my eyes started watering. Any descriptions of the bun as "brioche" were optimistic as it was closer to something I'd expect to be served at a football stadium, and would probably have been better suited surfacing a motorway than housing a burger. Thankfully we asked for a jug of tap water for the table otherwise I think the lack of moisture in the bun might have caused serious internal damage. At first I thought the blue cheese and buffalo sauce had been forgotten, but in fact I'd just been given such a small amount that it was almost invisible to the human eye. Then I got onto the crown jewel of the ensemble, the burger itself. What moisture might have once been in the burger had clearly been burned out of it, leaving a hard grey disk that probably wouldn't struggle to break a window. On the plus side if someone had held me at gunpoint during the meal I could've just held the burger in front of my face as I doubt any bullet would be able to get through. Visually it had the appearance of a rustlers with half the flavour. I genuinely think you'd be better going to McDonalds and saving yourself the cash. We sat eating in front of a large statue of Adam Smith, the founder of modern economics, and I can't help but feel it's partly his fault that I paid almost 4 hours wages for a semi-edible doorstop.

We ate dinner at burgers & beers on a saturday. We had a reservation which was good as the restaurant was full. I am actually on the edge with my rating as I cannot really decide if I wanna give it a 3 or a 4. If I could give 0.5 points then it would be a 3.5. The reason why is that we were a little disappointed with the patties. We chose the angus beef pattie and it was dry. The waiter did not ask how we wanted the meat to be cooked and it was well done which is a shame for such a nice piece of meat. The burgers (england & independence day) would have been delicious if the meat wasn’t so dry. The sides were delicious (tator tots & house slaw), the cocktails were really good too! Except for the ‘coke’ though, I guess it was made with a sodastream and they used the tap water which tastes very much like chlorine, so it did not taste like coke at all. The staff was nice as well and the athmosphere was nice too.

I ordered a burger with fries and a beer. The waiters were very friendly, and I would say the overall service was OK. The burger reminded me of rubber. The meat was so tough that you couldn’t bite into it without wrecking the burger. I then tried to eat it with cutlery but was pretty unsuccessful since the knife could barely cut it. The meat was too finely minced and it seemed to me that it was a frozen burger which had been overcooked to ensure it doesn’t stay raw in the middle. I honestly cannot understand why people have given them such great reviews, although I noticed afterwards that many of the reviews do not mention the burgers. When you advertise that you care a lot about your burgers, you source the meat from local farms, etc, you can’t present so low quality food. Not to mention the price was way too high. I paid 13 pounds for the rubber burger, 5 pounds for fries (as the burger prices do not include fries) and 5 pounds for a bottled beer. To top it all off when the waitress saw that I had left a third of my burger in my plate in a visible mess (after I was frustrated and gave up!), she didn’t ask if there was any problem with the burger. I left without giving them a tip and headed to find a fast-food place nearby to grab a bite before heading home. I’ll never risk going to this place again.

So let’s put it out here... I’m not the worlds biggest burger fan when eating out at a restaurant as I find them too chunky and sometimes pink inside which is not for me. We had to make sure we had a booking as the place is very busy and is voted Scotland’s best burgers. Whilst in the restaurant, all staff were helpful and wore masks and explained the menu and the app quite well. We was able to pay and order through the app. I was debating getting a chicken burger due to the fact mentionned before about burgers however I decided to give the beef burger a go!! And I am so glad I did! I did a create my own burger with cheese and caramelised onion and creamy pepper sauce which I was also able to dip my chips into. The caramelised onions were slightly too sweet for me but The burger was one of the best burgers I’ve had in my 25 years of life and I’m not a massive burger guru! I would recommend this place to everyone! There are so many options for create your own burger. Reasonable price and the setting inside was large, romantic with dim lighting which I actually kinda liked. Unisex toilets which are clean. Strong cocktails, I had the strawberry daiquiri. No need for starter or desert as even the burger is very filling!

Nice location, very helpful and friendly staff unfortunately the star of the show, the burger, was a bit of a let down. For me the sign of a good burger is to be on a good bun. If no care has been given to the bun it's likely that will cascade through the entire burger and although the burger was by no means bad it was simply ok but had clear issues. The bun was nothing special and actually I wouldn't class this as a bun, more a breakfast roll. Not what you'd expect at a burger joint. Didn't even have any char marks, was dried out by whatever warming process they used. The fries were good, no complaints ordered both regular and sweet potato. Fries don't come as part of the meal, have to be ordered as a side so your burger meal goes from what seems like a reasonable £8-9 burger up to around £13 all in. The Beef pate. Myself and the 2 other party members all agreed the pate was a bit dense and therefore dry and slightly tough. Not what you would expect from a burger joint. The pate also lacked beefy flavour from what I can only assume was a missing key player, fat. All the issues highlighted with the burger point to a bad meat to fat ratio. Just over £66 for 3 burgers 2 Fry's and 3 pints. Pretty reasonable.

Hello there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review from when you came in to dine with us. Firstly I would like to apologise that there were elements of your experience with us that didn't match what we aim for all our guests to leave feeling which is 100% satisfied. We have our bun's made fresh each day from a patisserie that use a recipe carefully selected to compliment our burgers however I can understand that when you are paying for a meal and issues are brought up then it's good feedback for us to be able to sit down and reevaluate if there are things we could be improving on so I thank you for your honesty. Our staff check back on each of our diners to give the chance to be able to rectify any cooking quality's so if this was missed then I can only apologise as this is not how we normally role. Hope you would give us another chance if you were nearby again so we can have you feeling 100% satisfied Thanks Andrew

Getting around to writing up a few of my reviews from March. It seems all but a distant memory now. This grillhouse was great - it pretty much offered exactly what was needed after a days worth of drinking. From what I can remember, the interior was fresh and modern. There was plenty of room to occupy about twenty of us (a majority of which were 'tanked up', including me) and the waiters were accommodating and polite throughout. The 'Burger' was superb but for the life of me, I can't remember what I ordered. What I can recall is an empty plate at the end of the meal and two 'two-pinter' tankards, containing nothing but a bit of foam trickling down the inside. The 'Lager' was thoroughly enjoyed, no doubts about that. I would definitely visit again!

Went to B&B on Sunday night, ordered our mains and drinks as per normal. Our drinks arrived promptly, but after 40 mins of waiting for our food, we were apologetically informed by the waiter there had been a glitch on the system and our order didn’t go through. We didn’t make a fuss however, the waiter still offered us complimentary wings to tied us over until our food arrived, but we declined as we didn’t want to be full. Our food finally arrived, and we enjoyed our burgers, hot dog and sides. We asked for the bill, when it arrived, the house had kindly comp’d our drinks and given us a discount on our food as an apology for the mishap that occurred. We weren’t expecting this! Thank you for the lovely gesture!

Our first time in Edinburgh and was recommended this place by friends. What an experience!!! While we were waiting to be seated, the bartender Sam gave us amazing recommendations for things to do in Edinburgh that really made us feel confident about our “wee” holiday away. She recommended tours and free things to do in Edinburgh and even recommended things on the menu to try!! It felt like she cared about us, not just wanted us to spend money! Thank you so much for making our experience AMAZING !!!! The food was amazing and service was unlike no other. I couldn’t recommend enough.

Delicious food in a great location in Edinburgh. The food was super tasty - especially the burger. The staff were very accommodating - I ordered the wrong thing for my partner and they fixed it on the house, which we really appreciated. The only negative for me was that we were asked to order using the QR code online and it added an automatic 10% service charge that you could not remove!

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to leave a nice review for us after your visit. We're glad you had an awesome time and that you found the service to be just as great as it always is! :) Our staff are all amazing and with the pandemic resulting in people carrying less cash/ordering contact-free, we thought we would make sure there was a way for our customers to have the option to order, pay, and tip contact-free. The 10% service charge is completely optional - there’s a button to click remove at the checkout stage if you’d prefer not to include it at all. The 10% (if you choose to pay it of course!) goes to our lovely team as a tip, and they receive 100% of it as gratitude for the great service that they provide to our loyal customers. Thanks again for your custom and feedback and hopefully we will see you soon. :)

Early tea here on Saturday. We hadn’t booked but we managed to get a table. Opted for the French an Scottish burgers as it was the 6 Nations Cup Weekend. Burgers were ok. A shame that the sweet potatoe fries were over seasoned (too salty) Quite pricey as sides were extra. Staff friendly and service was prompt.

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
