Visited The Dome last week, Lovely meal as usual, we were to busy talking and did not realise we were given bottled water not tap. Bill arrived 2 bottles £10!!! Total rip off. Don't know how they can justify that price. Always dine at Dome when in Edinburgh, will certainly make sure we request tap water the next time Disappointed... More

By chance a friend decided to take us to The Dome for coffee. What an amazing place. If you appreciate luxurious surroundings and history I would recommend a visit and not just for a coffee. Next visit will be a lunch or dinner or both.

Came here for afternoon tea for my birthday and what a treat it was. The young gentleman that served us was great and very good with our four year old daughter. I must say the food was fantastic however the cakes were very very rich!

Have came here a few times for drinks, normally during Christmas time, one of the nicest bars in Edinburgh around that time. Decided to come for afternoon tea which was £23.50 each (including champagne), the selection of teas was good as was the food. The staff were attentive. Found the price to be competitive for the area, Would return.

Absolutely loved this place. Sat and had a prosseco and enjoyed the ambience. The building itself was magnificent, the staff extremely helpful and the food looked amazing . We fully intended to go back, but only in Edinburgh for a weekend and ran out of time. Will definitely go back next time.

This is the place in Edinburgh to be seen, its the most luxurious restaurant in the city. It's steeped in history, coupled with the good food, its not to be overlooked or missed.

Lovely place for lunch. Expensive but worth it all the way. Make sure your table has a clear view as some of the tables are positioned near the huge columns. Attentive stuff, clean and great bathrooms. The burger (with fires) is a phenomenal value at just £15 considering many burger joints would charge you that and would sit you on... More

Had high tea with a group of friends here in March. The atmosphere was lovely. The high tea had a lovely selection of scones, sandwiches and cakes. It is an experience everyone should partake in.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
