Delicious, Great Service, what a find. And it was a find, as we stumbled around the streets trying to find someplace unique for dinner. They were hosting a party but immediately squeezed us in downstairs. A very Parisian feel. Loved it so much we booked again for tonight. Also, I must mention for the quality of food very reasonable.

Excellent food, real quality, lovely restaurant a real special place and not over expensive. Not far from the city centre, I would always book.

Well hidden on a quiet side alley in Edinburgh is this totally fantastic, authentic, gourmet restaurant. While I'm used to cooking my own venison steaks here in the US and am very picky about how they are made, I was delighted to give their roe deer steaks a shot, so to speak. It was wonderful, as were the sides. I... More

The food was reasonable (if slightly overpriced) but the staff were extremely rude. We spent a significant amount, and we're treated with nothing but contempt. Will not be visiting again.

A true little piece of Paris hidden away in central Edinburgh. Great cutback menu which changes daily with the seasons. Wondrous ambience, friendly helpful staff and great food. So I'll keep my review like the place, intimate and compact.

Without a doubt the ambiance of the setting here is second to none and the staff are first class. Very stylish and intimate. Perhaps some in our group made the wrong choices but the starter we chose lacked any seasoning and was uninspiring, it was a like a pork terrine, but not quite. Had hake which was perfectly cooked but... More

From the very start the bread and first couses were tops I had the... More

We visited this restaurant for lunch after many years and were delighted that the standards have been maintained. Starched white tablecloths and napkins always go down well. The staff were welcoming, helpful and unobtrusive. We had their express lunch - very good value at £10.50 for 2 courses. The mains consisted of belly pork served with chorizo, white beans and... The two of us had dinner on a Thursday night at a table by the window. The restaurant, staff and food are all great - the quality of the food and wine was excellent and the service on-time and unobtrusive (just the way I like it!). Thoroughly recommended.

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
