Had dinner with friends on a Saturday night and the place was nicely busy with a good atmosphere. I've been coming here occasionally for years and it's always been very good. Steaks were seriously tasty and the banoffee pie was great. Very good unfussy place to eat in a great central location.

23 of us visited this great restaurant and had a fabulous evening, friendly staff, quick service and a great atmosphere in our own space. Everyone enjoyed their food and they were happy to let us bring our own celebratory birthday cake. All in all a great night out.

Great tasting food in a relaxed setting. Very good value for money, particularly the express menu. Fast efficient service with a welcoming smile. Would recommend a visit for some tasty meals. Elderflower cocktail was very good. Give it a try.

Went looking for another restaurant to have breakfast and came across the Smoke Stack. Menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. We found very quickly that we'd made a good choice, friendly staff, good food and coffee meant we were highly impressed. Was delighted to see that my coffee arrived at the same time as my... More

I would rate this higher if it served a pie. What my photo shows, and even the "filling" does not represent a pie in any form I know. The rest of the meals were really good. Every one enjoyed what they had. The desserts are huge. Nice surrounds, good service, nice staff, small rooms but found it quaint and rugged. Nice.... More

1. I guess the only dryness of patty in the burger made me give 4 instead of 5. 2. The patty wasn't juicy but was okay. 3. I liked the crispy bun and irregular fries. 4. The price was a little expensive cuz I was in the UK.

My friend and I visited this restaurant on our first night in Edinburgh because it came highly recommended from a neighboring pub. We had an AWESOME experience and counted it as our best meal while in Edinburgh. Our server's name was Taylor and he rocked it! We pretty much went with his food reservations and they were on point. We... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
