Ate here with my wife and nine year old son and it totally lived up to our expectations. The service was really good - my wife asked for a mix of chicken and beef fajitas and was nicely and apologetically told they couldn't do that, a few minutes later the waitress returned to say that she'd asked the chef and... Met up with a girl friend for an early meal so opted for the pre theatre menu. This offered a good selection at a very reasonable price. The food was freshly prepared and hot to the table with very good service and staff. We both enjoyed it -- my friend had a starter and main and I had a main... More

The food in this restaurant was nothing short of excellent. Atmosphere was very relaxed. My poor rating for this restaurant is down to the fact that 2 ladies who came into this restaurant were turned away as they had an assistance dog with them. The dog was not under training it was obviously the assistance companion of one of the... More

Thank you for your review, I am glad your food was excellent but clearly your evening was ruined by the event you described. My staff member who had greeted the guests had not initially realised that they had an assistance dog - she was only aware of dogs being used to assist visually impaired people, while the person in this... A wee day out in chilly Edinburgh with my lovely hubby. Early start and a very crowded train ( I never realised the rugby was on when i booked the train !) left us very peckish . We were looking for a cafe for breakfast and saw this place and decided to give it a whirl- SO glad we did.... More

Walked by and was drawn in by the specials, creamy bacon and dill mussels and seared goat cheese salad...both were absolutely amazing and my mouth still waters thinking about it. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and this was within close walking distance.

We had visited the Smoke Stack on our previous visit to Edinburgh in 2016 and enjoyed it, so made a point of returning this year. We visited on a Monday night in January and were surprised the restaurant was so busy. A table were just finishing, so the Waitress asked us to sit on the Stools until the people had... More

Just called in as we passed by for lunch. It was very good with excellent quality food. Mainly burger type food. Nice people too. Very trendy looking onside. I'd go back.

Went here for brunch this morning. This place doesn't specialise in breakfast but does have a good breakfast menu and it's large enough to not feel too cramped. Good service, nice menu choices and good food. Managed to easily cater for our party of four (featuring 2 vegitarians)... Will definitely be coming back to try a late lunch or early... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
