We had no previous recommendations, it just looked like a good restaurant, and we wanted to try middle eastern food with a Kurdish twist! Our plates were very good, and the portions were almost too large, lol. I know where we'll go if we are...More

Four of dined here on a busy Saturday and the food a service were excellent. We had the mixed starters and platter for four, so much food but all well cooked and very tasty. The tastes of the dishes were well balanced, unusual but a...More

Visited last night as a family group of 7 and were so happy with everything. Starters we shared some veggie options and the soujuk sausage all were very pleasant. Main courses were absolutely fantastic. I had the chilli gosht lamb kebab which was smoky, juicy,...More

We’d always meant to try Hanam’s since reading A A Gill’s complimentary review; its proximity to the wonderful Bow Bar sealed the deal so we went along for an early dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation and were...More

We stopped after a visit to the castle. We had the three items lunch with hummus, babaganoush and lamb sausage. The naan was a foot in diameter and light and fluffy. Delicious! Very reasonably priced and good service. Not too busy and a beautiful atmosphere.

We ate here 10 years ago and came back again. Great veg options. The baba ganoush and bread were outstanding.

Great place to go with a group (it was quite noisy the night we were in). The food is delicious and generous portions (none of us were able to finish everything). There is plenty of choice for everyone including vegans. The staff are very friendly...More

This's Middle Eastern restaurant is one that I would thoroughly recommend. The food is excellent and once the order is taken, the food arrives quickly. It is a BYOB restaurant so all you are paying for is the excellent food. My only complaint, if indeed...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the

I went there while on a gluten free diet and found plenty of options. Just be careful of the rice as I think it has vermicelli or some other kind of noodle in it.

Set in the heart of Edinburgh is Hanam's Kurdish and Middle Eastern Restaurant and if you think that's a mouthful, wait until you see what on offer! Voted one of Britain's Top 5 Middle Eastern Restaurants by the Telegraph, owner Ahmed ensures the personal touch, by being there seven days a week to offer advice and banter. The menu offers starters such as falafel and baba ghanoush, main courses that include Kurdish pizzas, vegetarian casseroles and halal meat dishes, such as Kurdish-style lamb biryani. There are also a selection of shish kebabs and desserts. Three courses from this banquet-like menu will cost an average of just £20 per person. And, if you're so inclined, you can even smoke a traditional hookah after your meal.
