Just arrived in Edinburgh looking for a spot of early lunch and refreshments and was drawn to this distinctive looking pub. Received a warm welcome and shown to a cosy table. Vast selection of gins with matching tonics in addition to your normal bar selection of drinks. Scanning the food menus came across the express lunch menu which was reasonably priced at £7 for an open sandwich salad and chips . Large portions and very tasty. Arrived promptly. Good find would recommend a visit. No sure about accessibility for wheelchair users would need to check in advance.

Enjoyed drinks here this week with friends after work- delicious drinks! We had a food platter to share which was very well priced and tasty. Service from Jenny was great and you could see the effort made to adapt to government guidelines- made us all feel safe. Would definitely come back!

We booked a table outside, and it was just perfect. The staff are SO friendly and nice. I had fish n chips - the minted mushy peas were fantastic! Drinks prices were very reasonable, and the extra efforts made reagrding social distancing and hand sanitising made us feel comfortable on our night out. A great evening.

Lovely place with great decoration and amazing passion fruit mohito. I would give 5*, but one tiny detail puts me off completely. We have ordered prosecco and it was dreadful watching barmaid throwing a piece of raspberry with her bare hand. Come on people! You HAVE TO use tongs for that or at least wash your hands! you can't even imagine how much crap and germs are on money you are constantly touching at the bar. Straight after that you are passing all of those gems to people's drinks by simply touching fruits. This is GROSS! You should pay more attention to hygiene. Not only now, where you can hear so much about spreading coronavirus, but always. This is unacceptable.

Was in Edinburgh and met my son for a drink, he said this was a nice place, which it is, agreed. However, after ordering different our drinks I was expecting something better than a shot of gin in an ice filled glass with two measly bits of fruit and a bottle of tonic, all gins looked to be variations on that theme. At £7-8 a pop that’s a bit rich in my opinion, and a pint of beer was £6.20….. I must have swallowed the diamond as I didn’t notice it! To add insult to injury a miserly small portion of savory rice cracker in a tiny pot (think yoghurt pot but smaller) for £3.50 and then to add 19% service charge on top of VAT brought our 3 gins, 1 and a half pints of beer and the snacks to £39.05….. still no diamond! Look I like a nice venue and ambiance as much as the next person but this is taking the proverbial on my opinion, but I appreciate this is the norm nowadays! If you like halving your feet being massaged as you drink you gin fine, but expect and a commensurate bill. Me….. I won’t be back, got better things to spend £40 on!

We visited The Jolly on a Wednesday night for some food and drinks. The place was very busy and had a great natural atmosphere. The gin list was huge with all the gins paired with tonics and garnishes For food we ordered one of the cheese sharing boards as a started and for mains we had the corn fed stuff chicken and the venison both were excellent dishes Located close to Haymarket station would highly recommend if you like gin and great food with a nice natural buzzing atmosphere.

Had breakfast here as it was near to were we stayed nice bar and good service but seriously expensive for whats they offer. 14 pounds for full breakfast excluding tea /coffee so advise don't go there for breakfast. As there are plenty of other places near by which we found during our trip offering better quality and value.

Incredibly poor, whilst the food was great I was given 25 minutes to eat it and leave the table. If I was informed of this I would have ate elsewhere. It’s not fast food, the cost of a pie and chips and 2 pints was £33 so it’s not exactly McDs. I finished my food and had half a drink left and was presented with the bill, then had a card machine pushed in my direction then asked to move for a quick turn around. What that says is quite clearly the next customer is more important than the current one. Whilst I can’t stress enough the food was great, guys behind the bar were great but the girl that didn’t even have the courtesy to allow me to finish a half pint was just so rude. Worst thing is they take a 10% service charge automatically and in hind sight I would be having that taken off. Never experienced anything like it. They would have been as well holding my plate while I ate at the door so they could get me out quicker. Possibly the worst dining experience ever

This time the service was really slow and the wait staff seemed surprised when we asked them about it Lunch time we want reasonably sharp service as we have other things to do with our day. They were really quiet and it seemed like they couldn't be bothered. Then a tradesman started work on a window and filled the place with cold air.

Went for lunch here before an afternoon out in Edinburgh. Not a big menu and typical pub grub but all the food we chose was absolutely delicious and well cooked. Not the cheapest but you are in Edinburgh centre. My pie of the day was Chicken Tikka, different & very tasty. This place is a specialist at Gin with over a 100 options all laid out with lots of details on each. Gins are presented very nicely but also a good range of beers with 3 IPA’s. Location is also good and a regular stop off when visiting Edinburgh.

I've been in Edinburgh for 5 days now and my best meal so far was at The Jolly Botanist. We ordered a bunch of different small plates for the table to share - East Coast fish & chips (fresh battered haddock, chips & peas), Korean spiced pork belly - kimchi, bok choy, veggie haggis croquettes in a whisky mustard sauce (may have to go back just for these again - yum!), cauliflower wings with a spicy dip, and sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. Everything was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was phenomenal (I'm so mad I didn't get his name). We told him our usual liquor choices and he picked out gins to suit each of our tastes for us to try. He was spot on! We loved our drinks! We weren't rushed at all even though the restaurant was busy. The restaurant itself was super cute with lots of fun things to look at on the walls and table. I had an all around great dinner. Very happy customer here.

I rarely write reviews but I feel like this place could be better if they just thought it through a bit. On the face of it, the bar is really cool with a rustic, trendy decor with lots of space and the staff were lovely and helpful. However the menu is very limited with only one vegetarian main course. However if you liked beef, you’re in luck! There was Beef & Ale pie, the Roast Beef Sunday Lunch, there was a Beef burger or the special was a Steak! I wouldn’t mind that so much except it’s easy to increase vegetarian options, without changing a menu, with the simple addition of vegetarian sausages. This could add a veg roast & veg bangers & mash to the choice without any change to the current menu. I ended up ordering the roast, without the beef, and adding the veg haggis croquettes off the tapas menu. (Another option they could easily offer) It was okay but ended up being very expensive £22! They also didn’t offer a tea selection, just regular tea. Overall the experience was disappointing because it would be so easy to fix.

We ate in the jolly botanist after a night out in Edinburgh. The waitress was from Greece and spoke great English, and made us feel very welcome. I had the full Scottish breakfast, which was amazing, cooked fresh, and was very filling. The prices were slightly higher than you would normally pay for a breakfast, but the food was lovely. All in all, we had a great breakfast here, and would thoroughly recommend this place.

I’ve been a few times to this place, but will not be back ever again. It is over-priced without offering any specialist drinks or service. To add to that, ordered at the bar for the first time rather than ask the waiter/waitress (because they hadn’t noticed that our drinks were empty despite walking past several times). My friend and I both noticed the bar tender didn’t fill the drinks measure anywhere near to the top before pouring it into the glass. When we mentioned to her about it, she just said snappily “yes I did”. Ordered our next drink (I know, I shouldn’t have stayed) and similar thing happened with a different bar tender. This time, it was the end of the bottle. Rather than go get another or say they’d ran out, the guy just poured the 2/3 measure into one of our glasses and served us our drinks as he thought we hadn’t been watching. When we challenged him, he obviously had knew exactly what had happened because he said “oh, we’ve ran out of glenfiddich” and offered us a full measure of “something similar”. Note: bar tender had no idea as he offered talisker or laphroig as alternatives (basically because they were next to the glenfiddich on the shelf). He also didn’t apologise or give any drinks for free after this incident.

Nipped in quite late on just before the kitchens shut, ordered 2 steak and ale pies. Waited around 30 minutes but the wait was well worth it, can't recall having better ones anywhere else. Good service too, highly recommended if your in the area, we were staying just across the street in the Leonardo Royal
