After a week of touring the Scottish Highlands and various whiskey distillery's it was a welcome change to visit this lovely bar! Huge gin selection and even though it was busy we still found a quiet little table. Will be returning next time I'm in Edinburgh!

We had the best night at the Jolly Botanist! Absolutely amazing food, drinks (especially all the gins) and great atmosphere. Tony and all of the staff were brilliant and gave some great recommendations on the types of gin to try. I definitely recommend the Jolly Botanist to anyone, we will definitely be back soon! Thank you for making our trip... More

Very close to Haymarket Station, this is the perfect place to meet up with friends. We had burgers which were delicious, but spent most of the time trying out different gins (I loved the Edinburgh Gin Rhubarb and Ginger). Would have to come lots of times to try more though as there is a full menu which pages and pages... More

Yes the drinks are lovely and a great chance to try different gins but its always absolutely heaving and the drinks are very expensive. If you are looking for a place to "enjoy" your drinks, there are other great options in the city.

Been to the jolly botanist a couple of times, and although expensive always an enjoyable experience. Had friends visiting so reserved a table for the 15/02 , table right in front of television which was showing football,😰 Had to go to bar to order drink and eventually ask how to order food, the food we did order was very good... Love it here, such a quirky place. They serve food too, although we did not partake on this occasion. So many different Gins to try, the staff are good to recommend ones to try. Rock Rose is my new favourite, served with a sprig of rosemary!

Been here a couple times now. My partner loves gin, however I do not. So the unique selling point is Kinda lost on me. But I do still like the atmosphere. Great for gin lovers

About dozen of us went for a works lunch , now to be upfront it was a Tuesday! Place was very quite so no real atmosphere as only about three other couples in bar. Service was fair, menu was fairly limited though not sure if evening more extensive. Food was ok but nothing special and not particularly cheap. Would go... More

Food was pricey for lunch, they do offer a soup and a bagel lunch option but not a great deal of choice. We waited 30 mins before our food arrived. Was worth the wait, massive portion one portion between both of us would have done for lunch and we are both big eaters.

We noticed this place as we drove through on our way to Murrayfield and so set out the next day to Haymarket to find it!. We are great gin drinkers and were amazed at the range of gins. Loved the decor and the atmosphere; the staff were so helpful. It being a match day (Scotland v Ireland) it was heaving... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
