What a great night! We were immediately made to feel at home. Within two hours, we'd been introduced to practically everyone in the bar. And what a cast of characters. We shared pints and stories for hours. If you're not afraid to reach out and...More

A really delicious open sandwich of finely sliced best beef. The only problem was knowing what to have from the vast menu. Having heard about this pub for years I'm glad I came and will definitely be coming back.

Hi, I was in the other day and there was a bartender (average hight, blonde with a fade haircut) and he was very rude and innapropriate to me and my friends and we felt uncomfortable so we had to leave... was not a good experience

The reason there are no photos of this establishment is that there was a sign which said no photos. The brass sign outside instructed - no credit cards, no phones , no backpackers. All in all not an inviting place to visit. Staff didn’t seem...More

Here with a group of 16. Read the we'd menu and was looking forward to the meal so disappointed when the only vegetarian option had pastry (which I detest.) Settled for a crab starter and some bread. Average but not exciting. Coffee bitter and mediocre....More

Lots of interesting and surprising stuff to look at while enjoying a drink. We heard there were "rules" (like no cell phones or photos) but we took photos and there didn't seem to be a problem. Complimentary sandwiches 5 - 7 pm, while they last....More

Can’t comment on the food, but as a pub it has it all. Interesting decor, good beer and bar staff who will bring your beer to your table rather than you having to wait for it at the bar. A wide range of whiskeys, sandwiches...More

I visited here with 2 friends recently. We didn’t have the food so no views on that. As a pub it’s wonderful. Full of bric-a-brac. Fantastic selection of wines and whiskeys. 4 real ale pumps serving top notch beers in excellent condition. We thoroughly enjoyed...More

Guest beers are welcome but not to the total exclusion of star customary brews - such as Deuchars IPA or Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, get some in! Service quality has dropped - never a place to expect a “Disney” welcome (thankfully) but watching staff engrossed in...More

Really quirky pub. Glad we popped in for a drink. Excellent selection of drinks and ales. Place is genuinely quirky and a refreshing change from places that try to be different. Definite recommendation if your in the area.

This is a very good pub which serves very good food. Families do go to it, but it's not the first place in Edinburgh I would think of for a child-friendly experience!
