Staying in Grassmarket we stumbled upon this place. The menu actually had nourishing food for fussy kids. For once they ate all their food. Adults were spoilt for choice of sausages, types of mash and gravy. Finished off with classic puds. Stuffed.

Looking for somewhere for breakfast? Give Mums a try, U won't leave dissapointed. Friendly staff, great Breakfast all round nice little place & good value for your money. A great little touch with the copies of The Beano for the little'n to read. Not far from the Royal Mile but definitely worth finding.

I go here regularly and the food is always of a very good standard. The waiting staff are extremely friendly, attentive and cheery. I would recommend. Main dishes range from about £8 to £11 so pretty affordable too.

Highly recommend as somewhere that serves lovely home cooked food with local products. Good selection of beers to go with your sausage and mash! Friendly staff and great service.

Typical Schottich plates, a wide variety of choice. Also nice burgers. I ordered the chicken burger. Delicious! Served with crispy fries and salad.

Lunch 28/01/2016. One of the worst meals ever. Poor service. Long wait. Food inedible. Chips aneamic. Soup more like dishwater. Fish pie lacked fish. I rarely write a critical review, but this was awful.

We arrived on a Sunday at noon and were immediately seated at MUMS. The service and food were great. We started with the haggis and moved into our main courses of mushroom Wellington and Shepherd's Pie. It was all amazing, and very affordable. They also have a better craft beer selection than many restaurants in Edinburgh (outside of the pubs... More

Not your average food spot. Heavy on sausage and mash with creative options. Inexpensive sit down option close to imperial mile .

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
