Dropped in here on Sunday for breakfast, after having tried to drink Edinburgh dry the night before, and what a place this is, the sausages are really good, and they served the breakfast with a some unusual extras. We also had the pancakes and bacon which was also fantastic, if a little heavy but still worth it! Great breakfast spot... More

Excellent breakfast, just the right amount of food, cooked and presented really well. My boyfriend absolutely loved the fruit pudding that came with it. Brilliant staff, great music and quirky decor. Highly recommended.

This place was off the beaten path but I will tell you it was worth the long walk. This food was amazing and bursting with flavor and seasonings. We had the sausage and mash as well as the a couple of beers and the service was impeccable

This restaurant has traditional home cooking in a retro diner style setting. I had a burger which was delicious with proper chips. I heard good things about the fish n chips, fish pie and haggis. The 2 waitresses we had were really chatty and bubbly and waived the charge on our desserts due to our birthday celebration. Would definitely recommend.

Located in the heart of town, it's a great option to stop for a quenching and uncomplicated lunch. Sausages and mashed potatos, fish and chips and good beer!

Simple food done really well an excellent selection of gourmet sausages and more different types of mash than I've ever seen. Amazing crispy homemade chips best I've had in ages and the price was very reasonable wish I'd had enough room for a pudding as there was an excellent range of classic puddings

I can't think of anywhere better to go on a freezing November evening in Edinburgh than MUMS! It's simple food done wonderfully well, simply presented and absolutely delicious. I had the steak and ale stew & dumplings with caramelised leek and bacon mash - well I'm still dreaming about it, it was that good. It was followed by treacle and... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
