Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing place to celebrate my birthday. I had a Whisky Tasting based on my personal taste, with a great variety. Gabriel was in charge of the tasting that day and everything was perfect! We also had dinner in West End Brasserie (the restaurant upstairs) after...the tasting, Sandra was one of our servers and bartender, and helped us choose the best option for food and drinks for each of us. I highly recommend everyone I know to come!More

Spur of the moment visit from hotel across the street. We were treated to a relaxed and enjoyable late-afternoon break, learning about different regions via a handful of selections suggested by our kind waiter, who was from Argentina. Looking forward to my next visit…..

Edinburgh was busy for the rugby. And Usquabae was too - but this restaurant/whisky bar is noticeably well-managed so the vibe was calm. Service excellent. Food outstanding - and prices very reasonable - I've paid three times this amount in other places for food not...even half as good. So it's unreservedly a 5 stars from me.More

Nice ambience in early evening Tremendous selection of fine and rare whisky Initially I had phoned up to enquire about booking but was told that a booking was not required and just to come On arrival was asked for a booking and explained the above,...It didn’t go down particularly well with staff but that was soon cleared up. Later into the evening, the ambience started to change from a tranquil more intimate softly lit venue due to very loud patrons and loud music more like a standing bar so at this point list its edge on class and sophistication which it initially presented with. Not that much of a problem but it was more pleasant when quieter and more relaxed and not so loud and raucous. The whisky was delightful, lots of choice. Got the chance to try some nice rare whisky too which you certainly don’t find anywhere very often. I would go again, but for early evenings when it’s not loud. *Still not sure if they want you to book or not? 🤷More

Wonderful restaurant and bar with friendly, knowledgeable staff. I had a selection of fantastic and unique whiskeys and the delicious haggis. I highly recommend it and it is a must-have for a trip to Edinburgh.

This was always our go-to place when me and my partner visited Edinburgh. Incredible food, fab service and of course a brilliant selection of whiskies to try. Saddened when it was closed for a refurb but was looking forward to when it reopened. Very excited...to see that it had reopened and just in time for a planned visit to Edinburgh for the Christmas markets. I booked via the website, straightforward enough, how many people and for what time - job done. When we arrived and took our seats they provided us with a drinks menu but no food menu?! I then asked for a food menu and was then informed that they no longer did food?!?! WHAT?! NO FOOD?! This was not communicated on the website or during the booking process. The food here was always top notch. To top this experience off we were now in a very busy Edinburgh on a Saturday night with nowhere to go for food 👎🏻👎🏻More

Confirmed booking but closed. I booked this as part of a surprise weekend away for my partner's birthday. This was supposed to be the birthday dinner. The booking was confirmed only we got there to find a shut down building. At 7pm on a Friday...night and anywhere worth booking for a special occasion being fully booked, I'm upset to say the least.More

This used to be a frequent stop off pre lockdown for meals and drinks. The staff were very attentive and well informed. On our return tonight we could not believe the change. The whisky menu has become a joke price wise. It used to be...you could find several reasonably priced malts but now they are few and far between. The service was atrocious. We ordered 3 malts a coke and a ginger beer. 3 malts arrived and a bottle of ginger ale appeared on the table without even a glass. Did he honestly think it was for the malts?Twice we had to ask for the rest of our order. It is not unusual to ask for water to add to a malt and any knowledgeable member of staff would know this. When our waiter eventually brought the remaining drinks he also brought 5 glasses and a bottle of water. We will most definitely not be returning or recommending Usquabae like we did in the past.More

Went to Usquabae for a meal and some whiskies. Had scallops for a starter followed by the venison, both of which were cooked to perfection. The highlight of the meal however was the cheeseboard for dessert. It not only had the usual assortment of cheeses...and crackers but also apple slices marinated in a mix of spices, and walnuts with a honey glaze that elevated it to a whole new level. The service was fantastic and I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting to experience dining at its finest.More
