bad coffee, weak too milky nothing resembling cappuccino even after a second attempt, staff did make the second one after complaint, I did point out the lack of foam and the fact that it was over milky but it wasn't taken on board

Sorry to hear about your disappointing cappuccino as that is not the standard I would expect. If you have any issues that the staff are unable to solve please do ask to speak to whoever is running the shift that day and we would ensure to rectify any issues to the best of our ability. More

The location is opposite John Lewis, alongside St Mary’s Cathedral so it’s central. I expect there is a connection to the church and the mix of furnishings suggests some of these may have been donated from next door but there are plenty of them so you’ll probably get a seat. The menu is displayed prominently in chalk behind the long... More

Dear customer, Thank you for the detailed report of your visit, it will definitely help us to improve our self. The waiting time surely related to the busy time we were having, and also to the fact that we decided to don't serve per-cooked food. Toilets are of course cleaned daily after the closing time, and then checked in the... More

Cafe Camino used to be good. Since the latest new management, sad to say it has steadily deteriorated. I've been coming to Cafe Camino every Thursday afternoon for 3 or 4 years now and so I am perfectly privy to the demise of this once good cafe. It is still comfortable but... the staff is considerably less friendly than the... More

Dear customer, I would be lying saying that nothing is changed in the NEW Cafe Camino in the past year, in fact the new manager (here since last year) has inherited, what can not exactly be called an excellent situation from the previous management. About our team, we are getting great feedback from most of our visitors, for the way... More

Came here last week for a spot of lunch and the special for the day was Mediterranean sausages served with mash and some kind of gravy. The sausages were so tasty. Coffee was pretty good also.

Went to a seminar. Paid £20 including food and coffee so no great expectations but the sandwiches were disappointing belonged belief. They looked great, lots of colour, clearly freshly made, but were tasteless. And some were of the most extraordinary combinations, one with a mushroom filling, like cardboard. I don't know what the brief was, perhaps no salt, no mayonnaise,... More

Sorry about you disappointment with sandwiches, our brief was to have some vegan options available hence the mushroom variety. If you had let us known at the time we would have happily got the kitchen to whip a sandwich more to your liking. More

This is the most horrendous cafe I've ever eaten in. Myself, my other half and our two boys were all really disappointed. We ordered two breakfast, a soup (with stale bread) and a burger. The food is so bad. So bad. How can you mess up soup?..waay too salty and looked steaming hot, but once my wife had eaten some... More

Sorry to hear about the unsatisfactory visit you had to Cafe Camino recently, we wish you could have brought up some of your concerns on the day as then we would have been able to pinpoint the issues more readily and could have tried to work out something to amend the situation. We sell many breakfasts a day and have... More

This is a regular stop on our shopping trips to Edinburgh. The croissant & coffee are good. The lunches are fairly basic but wholesome, filling and tasty. The staff always seem to have a smile. What's not to like? It's not the most refined place but it's clean & has plenty of seating and the service is prompt & you... More

Started going here on a regular basis whenever I am in the area. This place is a gem I have always had good service and the food and drinks are good value and good quality. It is not your bland multinational chain but has the feel of a welcoming local cafe.

Cafe Camino used to be great, efficient service, good menu, it was the first place I'd choose to grab something to eat in that part of Edinburgh. Thank you for your feedback. We believe though that the new system for numbering the tables has been working more efficiently than we... More

Pleasant venue for a simple tea and biscuit , particularly if visiting the Cathedral but also at any time when in the area and in need of a no frills cuppa.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
