We had heard a lot about this restaurant and were excited to be able to visit on a weekend away from Devon. The food was indeed absolutely wonderful and the reputation for wowing even the most committed of carnivores entirely deserved- perhaps the most interesting and varied vegetarian food I have ever eaten. Shame then that none of the staff... More

Was recommended to try this restaurant while in Edinburgh and it didn't disappoint food wise - very nice selection (small menu but adequate). The olives and hummus were great starters, along with very tasty bread. I had the noodles, vegetables and tofu and hubby had kofta. We both enjoyed our meals. We asked them if they could heat up baby... More

For a long time David Bann has been on our list of go to restaurants when we visit Edinburgh. However, it seemed to have lost its way a little in recent times, but I'm delighted to say that when we visited last Wednesday, the food was definitely back on top form. The olive polenta and the roulade were both exceptional... More

We went to David Bann for an evening meal. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and is well located just off the Royal Mile. The service was attentive but never intrusive. The menu has plenty of choice and the food is so delicious that even non-vegetarians would be satisfied. The wine list is wide and has a good selection of... More

As a vegan and regular visitor to Edinburgh we occasionally find ourselves in David Bann. This time, away for work, I dined alone. The waiter looked after me really well and was very attentive. I enjoyed my meal of Thai fritters, koftas and orange jelly. More expensive than another we'll known Edinburgh eatery (Henderson's) but good. The menu hasn't really... More

Dined there tonight, table of 8, ages 16 to 89. 5 veggies, 3 non. The food was great. No worries there. Bottle of wine, service was fine, a little slow but the restaurant was fairly busy & we were all chatting so no worries there either. The bill came. £142 no problems. Then I saw 10% service charge was added,... More

I really want to like David Bann, I really do, but some of the flaws are really hard to overlook. Start off with a bloody mary, really well made and nice and spicy, good start. Me and my companion shared some olives and the smoked tofu. Olives are fantastic, juicy and well marinated, the bread served with it is a... More

I went here for dinner and had an amazing time. There was a lovely atmosphere and the food was amazing. I am not a vegetarian but if I wanted to convince somebody, I would take them here! It only took a while for us to pay unfortunately.

If you're looking for great vegetarian food this is the place. The food was tasty and creatively put together. I loved the kofta, indeed everything I ate was excellent and the service was very good too.

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
