This restaurant has been here for years and years, but I'm not often in the area. Inside it's cosy with a nice decor. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here and last night was no exception. I really enjoyed my enchiladas espinacas and my friends enjoyed their fajitas. The food is spicy (it's Mexican!), but definitely not... More

Hit the spot when we popped in here for an evening meal, the food is simple but tasty and great value as well as having a really friendly server - recommend you pop in and sample

Found Pancho Villa's by chance. Glad we did! Perfect lunchtime snack. Kids enjoyed the food - not too spicy.

While the food was good, it didn't hit the spot for Mexican. In the US, Mexican restaurants invariably bring chips and salsa (no extra cost) at the beginning of the meal. That wasn't the case here. Also, every 'extra' was an additional cost (cheese, sour cream, etc.)

The food was excellent but sadly the service wasn't 100% - it took a while for the waiter to take our plates away and it was apparent that they were stretched.

Being from the US and now living in Europe I try at least 1 Mexican restaurant in every new city I travel to. This one was a pleasant surprise. We had nachos, enchiladas & fajitas and a side of beans. All were very good. Staff was friendly as well. Very well priced. We spent 20£ on everything. (Lunch)

A large group of us ate here on a Friday night in October. The place was ominously quiet - not a surprise to us us after eating there we know we won't be back. The food was all overly-hot (spicy) and the menu gave no inkling that this would be the case. Several of us (even those who like a... More

One of the worst Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. I chose this because I wanted to have something else than "pub food" for a change and it had really good ratings. I was very disappointed with my burrito, which consisted basically only of the spicy chicken and hardly and veggies.

Called in here quite late after a long day exploring Edinburgh on foot. We love Mexican food, and this restaurant is one of the best, authentic places I have been to in the U.K. Beef taquitoes for starter were delicious, as were the chicken and chorizo enchiladas. Very friendly service, even with the bustle of 3 birthday crowds in. So... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
