Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fabulous food. Obviously a lot of skill and care had been taken, resulting in a delicious meal for both my husband and I. Good sized portions. Definitely need to book. A real find.

The whole experience of being in this little place for my father’s 90th was perfect. Very memorable food, service and atmosphere. Well balanced dishes, good portions, fairly priced and a small menu indicating carefully sourced and fresh produce. Just great

This place has been on my 'must visit' list for a long time. I had arranged to meet a friend for lunch and was lucky to get a reservation for a mid week lunch. Small restaurant, small menu but a decent choice. We both had...the prawn wonton starter & the cod for main. Well presented & perfectly cooked. We decided to order one walnut whip & one sticky toffee pudding for dessert to share. Definitely recommend the sticky toffee. It was light (tho no doubt fattening!) and divine. Service was friendly and we felt very well looked after. Highly recommend.More

We ate here in January 24. This was our first visit but won’t be our last. The menu was short. But that’s a good thing because I’d much rather a restaurant did a few things well than a lot of things moderately. We had a...delicious prawn wonton starter, excellent pork belly and cod mains and shared a Walnut dessert. All were delicious and the Reisling wine was very good too. Prices are very reasonable so overall it’s excellent valueMore

Recommended by someone, the menu looked good value and the place welcoming so thought we would give it a go. Great decision, in this day and age £34 for 3 courses is very good value and so it proved. The prawn wonton starter was light...and fresh. We had the cod main course and the pork belly course, both were excellent served with smooth purée, portions perfectly sized and more than enough. Had to go for the walnut whip dessert, would recommend. This is a nice feeling neighbourhood bistro / brasserie, we will be returning.More

On reading the good reviews we decided to try this restaurant whilst in Edinburgh for two nights We were aware it was a smal intimate place. When we arrived and entered the restaurant I immediately felt it was drab and dingy. The staff were friendly...but for some reason I didn't feel relaxed. The menu was I interesting and our two courses were OK. The goats cheese starter was very bland The main course was better. Coley cooked to perfection. I wish the restaurant all the best in the future but won't be visiting again.More

One of the best meals I’ve had in Edinburgh in many years! A fab menu, good portion sizes and even some delicious complementary nibbles. The star of the show was the coley main - cooked to perfection! We were hosted by a lovely waiter, who...couldn’t have done more for us.More

The Walnut has been on my must try list for some time. So worth it, extremely good value with a very friendly waitress. Have to admit to having the 3 courses, everything was so tasty and beautifully presented. It’s not a huge restaurant so booking...essential. Well done, we will be backMore

What a place, so glad to have finally ticked it off my list, but I fully intend to tick it plenty times again! Everything about The Walnut is perfect. The food, the staff, the ambience, it really was the most perfect evening from start to...finish. £32 for the quality of food and the portion sizes is an absolute steal. The complimentary veggie haggis balls to start our meal were greatly appreciated, the meal just got better and better from there. There’s too many highlights so just trust my words that it was perfection! The two waitresses were lovely and the evening and service was impeccable. Cannot wait to come back, can’t recommend highly enough.More

Lovely ambience, very friendly and welcoming waitresses, delicious food (love the small menu - good choice - meat, fish and vegetarian for mains), excellent value- nice small touches too. One of our best meals of 2023- will be back though next time we will share...a dessert as the famous walnut whip was very filling!! Husband enjoyed his espresso martini. Vino verde wine was so good too! What can I say but thank you for a lovely evening and well done for running an excellent restaurant!More

Best value meal I have had in Edinburgh recently. Modern Scottish cuisine done just right. Veggie/fish/meat option for main and starter as is the norm now, but we tried all the options and all were done just right. Desserts also great and a good wine...selection. Cocktail list slightly limited but otherwise can't go wrong for the price.More

2pm is the last sitting for lunch and you normally have to be finished and out by 15.30 unless you have made prior arrangements to extend, But this must be done at time of booking.
