Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good selection of food (including veggie and vegan options) plus coffee and unusual teas (e.g. London Fog). I had the soup which was tasty, husband enjoyed his baguette which they put on a plate with dressed salad and vegan coleslaw. Cakes rounded off the visit...nicely.More

Found by accident when looking for a light lunch. Soup was unreal... Very yummy. Great to see the soup options were both vegan and gluten free. Bread was beautiful too.

Tea was in a teapot fine but only given a small cup. The tea itself was lukewarm. We had to wait ages for the meal and it was really greasy The bacon was like cardboard the scrambled egg had cheese through it which is a...no no. I don't like cheese. I always pass on what I won't eat to my husband. For £10.99 it is not worth it. My little Brownies could cook better than the staff. When I was there today they even had dogs in the place. 4 that I counted. This is not hygienic.More

Popped in here for a quick coffee with an elderly relative. Understandably it was busy so few tables available however when one became free we took our seat and cleared the plates ourselves. I then went to ask for something to wipe the table and...the not so friendly waiter begrudgingly came over to clean the table for us. He then asked my elderly Grandma to stand up whilst he wiped it. The coffees took way too long to arrive and when they finally did they were lukewarm. I don’t enjoy making complaints but having worked in the industry before I know that front of house staff create an impression on the place and this was not a good one. Unfortunately will not be returning as there are plenty of other coffee shops in St Andrews to enjoy!More

It was raining….surprise. We stopped in for cup of tea and ended up with adding a sandwich, soup and scone. All the food was fantastic and enjoyed our stop. Not a lot of seating so get a seat and then order.

visited Zest today for third time. Despite all the notices telling me that it is a social enterprise set up and explaining the employment rational, it wasn't until my wife said something that I realised!! Stupid customer. My tea and scones were great, the service...was good and the fuss they all make over the dog was much appreciated to help with socialisation. The negative reviews here seem to say more about the customer than the place but don't tell everyone how great this place is or I won't get a seat!!More

Omg...tried this so called cafe, today and was totally horrified....Do not go on a Sunday and have a roll of scrambled egg as the rolls are delivered on the Saturday and are a day old,but the manager says these are not old or hard...but they are!!!!!..Hard...and stale.... I ordered a Scottish breakfast and a soft yoke fried egg...Well where to start mmmm.... Egg was over cooked and hard as a football...the bacon was like a sheet of plyboard, the sausage was the cheapest skinny link you could get,the mushrooms where soggy and tastless and prob from Saturday like the roll!!! HASHBROWNS right out the freezer and into the deep fat fryer, tomato was hard inside and soggy on the outside and now onto the super toast!!!! Now Toast is made by the bread being placed into the toaster and TOASTED!!! not fried,we call that fried bread not Toast...im sure the people reading this review would agree...Tea for two,was the smallest pot which in any other cafe they would call that a tea for one.Food preped beside the coffee machine and the staff more interested in counting there tips than serving the customer,on entry had to wait after sitting down and then have to ask how the service works,is it table service??? but was told you come to the till and pay up before you get tortured by there food!!! And yes the word torture is correct,,even the scrambled egg was hard and tastless. I think you should check with the customer they don't have a cheese intolerance as adding cheese to scrambled egg is Not scrambled egg,we call that a cheese soufflé in the chef world. You should tell the customer you put cheese in scrambled egg.Now onto the toilets, well the womans toilet was not in-service and my wife had to use the dirty mens toilet which was NOT CLEAN,as the manager said it was...the whole place is just a disaster do your self and your body a favour and go any other place in St andrews but not here,u will thank me for this advice...The manager will say the place is amazing and people keep returning yeah that's because they are all students and like the manager says they know all there 5 regular customers by name....Over priced social enterprise. So to sum Zest up,find the nearset bin and enjoy lunch as I bet it would be better than the rubbish you get from the cafe. Hope this helps you make the right choice for lunch.More

Great coffee, very slow service. We ordered cakes at the counter and I was left to struggle to my table outside carrying 3 plates, knives and a bottle of water. That sums up the service!!! I had been to the toilet and nearly finished my...cake before my coffee arrived. To make matters worse our drinks were offered to various other tables before eventually being delivered to our table. Granted the cakes and coffee were first class but the shockingly bad service makes this place difficult to recommend. A further awkward moment arose when we were packing up to leave when the attendment was trying to clear our table around us. Shocking service... perhaps take away is the way forwardMore

This is a cute little place. Lovely staff, great atmosphere and good quality food and drinks. There’s the option of eating outside or inside. Very reasonably priced especially for St Andrews which can be generally expensive. Very clear covid signage. Only reason for a 4/5...was because the toilets weren’t very clean.More
