We have eaten in many Michelin star restaurants recently. All excellent. Unfortunately this is was not one of them. On arriving , we enjoyed our drinks and the 2 canopies at the chefs table. We were taken upstairs to a table beside a window. At this time, we were the only people in the restaurant. As it was 5 degrees outside, we should have asked to be moved, as I was very cold throughout the meal. The first course was sea trout , served with a curry sauce, which completely overwhelmed the delicate fish. We decided to pay extra for our next course, my husband having cod and I decided to have the scallops, or should I say 1 scallop served with shredded pork underneath. They should be ashamed ar charging £20 ( not including service charge) for 1 scallop! No price was mentioned as it was an extra offer to the menu. The main course was pork belly served with a tartlet of haggis. The pork was dry and tough. There were no vegetables, except for a mushroom that was unpleasant. Dessert was a take on banoffee pie. A very small amount of toffee, some tonca bean ice cream, which was tasteless and a banana parfait, also tasteless. Would we come back?.... always a test after my husband and I have eaten out, a definite NO! Very disappointing overall.

My wife and I enjoyed the tasting dinner at the Haar and was impressed by the excellent service. The food was also very tasty, but I thought the wine choices expensive.

My partner booked lunch for us for my birthday. From the moment we entered it was a fantastic experience. A beautiful restaurant, great service from all the staff and the most exquisite food. We added on the ‘snacks’ which were incredible- an explosion of flavour. A truly special and unique lunch - highly recommended.

Came for dinner and overnight stay for my 40th last Saturday. Haar is an absolute gem of a place. The rooms are gorgeous and comfy with lots of nice touches(the homemade shortbread was delicious) When it came to dinner i can safely say that it is some of the best food i have ever eaten! Snack to dessert were stunning. The staff were attentive yet not in your face. My wife and i have decided we have found our new favourite place... Oh and i still cannot decide what my favourite course was........

Stayed overnight with tasting menu. Rooms are comfortable, the food is outstanding purely for the experience. The staff cannot be faulted, facilities are immaculate. If in the town you should try this experience The key code can be a bit footery, to get in late at night

This was our second trip and we were so impressed the first time but this time we left a little deflated. Small things, small cuts, less bread, things like that. We were offered an oyster as part of the snacks at the beginning but this time it was extra whereas before it was included. The snacks were good. In fact all the food was good, and the service was excellent, it just wasn’t worth it to me. We decided to go for the signature (£35pp extra) lobster in mirin butter and it was absolutely drenched in butter. The lobster had completely lost all lobster texture, and taste. And the drinks are really expensive. Which last time we didn’t begrudge quite as much as we felt it was such an ‘experience’ but this time we just felt like we could have done better for that amount of money. I’ve given it a 3 as the food was good , and the service was great, just not quite good enough at that price.

We came with friends on an Itison overnight stay with tasting menu. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were small but very clean and with good quality linen and toiletries. Our dinner was off really fabulous quality and absolutely delicious. However, just beware of the add on specials to your dinner! We were offered various extras and chose a smoked oyster for £5 each, which seemed reasonable so we ordered those. They also had mentioned a special scallop course which they didn’t quite the price for, and as we thought the oyster was reasonable we didn’t ask the price. When the bill came it showed that the scallop extra dish was £20 each😳!! We felt that we couldn’t really say anything as we hadn’t asked the price…so make sure you always do. A lesson learned for us even at our age🤨. We also had an aperitif of Gin and tonic each….the Gin was £6.50 (fine) and the tonic was £5 for each small bottle (not fine). We’ve now seen that their sister pub called Dune which is just up from Haar, charge £2.50 for small bottles of tonic. Service charge is added automatically at 12.5% as well. For an Itison deal it really didn’t end up being the bargain it seemed. It was a lovely meal overall but slightly tarnished by the overpriced extras. Make sure you always ask the price of everything…we certainly will in future.

My daughter and I stayed at Haar and chose to do the tasting menu adding the oysters. Caviar and Dean’s signature dish the lobster…. The whole experience was fantastic and the entire meal was amazing and extremely delicious making it very hard to pick a favourite course… but it is well worth paying that little bit extra as the lobster dish is outstanding….. service is first class and all the staff are very friendly and work very hard to make sure you have a fabulous time …. The rooms aren’t huge but extremely comfy and everything you need is at hand … breakfast is also delicious all in all would highly recommend had a fabulous time and will definitely return with my hubby who couldn’t make it this time to my daughter delight, thank you for a wonderful time

Lovely stay with a wonderful meal. Delicious food from start to finish, especially the lobster. We took the wine pairing and these were perfect. Not the cheapest of places to dine but we feel it is worth it for a special occasion.

We enjoyed ourselves and it was a good experience. We were on a discount deal and we felt that was value for money. We didn't feel we would purchase at full price though. These deals are usually designed to attract new customers but we felt the restaurant was trying to upsell us without just delivering their full price experience.

This was our fourth visit to Haar and we generally agreed, that whilst the Service is good, the food quality excellent, portion sizes, for a 3-Course Lunch, not a Tasting Menu, left us disappointed. If we had been paying the full £35, rather than the Itison Offer price, we would have been even more disappointed! Looking around the other Tables, few Diners appeared to be drinking alcohol, which was no surprise, as Wine by the Glass, or Bottle is, to our mind, a little expensive, so the opportunity for the Servers to up sell is limited - surely the point of attracting Customers through Itison?

Absolutely outstanding experience at Haar with the six course tasting dinner. We added the lobster and the scallops and highly recommend you do too! Service was impeccable and food was amazing, Haar ticks all the boxes and why it doesn’t have a Michelin star is beyond us! Loved the snack service at the station with Kieran prior to enjoying your amazing meal and service throughout our fabulous dinner by Dan was perfect! So difficult to pick a favourite course but if pushed the signature dish of lobster topped the bill. We also enjoyed the wine pairing and cannot fault a single thing, everything was perfect from start to finish. The best tasting experience we have ever had because we loved every single course and the wine! Don’t hesitate to book, this is a must if you enjoy fine dining in a contemporary setting!

A fabulous experience - food, ambience and service were all superb. Dan’s team out front created a friendly informative service and the restaurant layout creates the right balance of convivial atmosphere and privacy. We would return in a heartbeat and recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a seafood based tasting menu, some fine wines and good quality service.
