Lovely restaurant, in a lovely setting, but food could definitely be better Upon arrival we were immediately told there was no fish sharing board or 2 deserts available ?? We opted for olives to begin, which were delicious but came with huge chunks of feta cheese dropped on top, no finesse or nice presentation Our mains were hot, tasty and delicious. My wife went for the turkey roulade and I had fish & chips. Couldn’t fault either Deserts were a big disappointment. My wife went for a pistachio and almond tart, which arrived cold (would be better heated), and for £8 was very small I opted for the sticky toffee pudding, which was hot and delicious, but again for £8 is probably the smallest pudding I have ever received, and was minus the apple crisp ? With a 10% service charge included, it made for a rather expensive and average experience

The Bothy has a good reputation as a restaurant. I cannot confirm this. The table was reserved and apart from us there was only one other table occupied by extremely loud Americans. It was a Monday evening and as soon as we sat down we were told what was no longer available on the fairly straightforward menu. Everything fishy was gone and there were gaps in the meat dishes too. The quality of the dishes we ordered was mediocre and not worth the rather high price. That was definitely the first and last time we ate here.

Doesn't live up to the website. The decor has recently been refurbished and looks good. The staff were friendly but need proper training, especially on the menu. Strangely there are no side plates, even when you order a sharing nibbles starter, or bread for the table. We were upstairs, and placed our order from the main menu. After this, a couple of more tables came in, and they were shown a 'specials' blackboard. It would have been nice to have been offered the specials to choose from too. The table next to us wasn't offered this either. My main of fish crumble was tasty, partners burger was average. There are extras available like coleslaw, potatoes, salad at an extra cost. Beer was brought to table in the can with a tall mixer glass. There is a 10% service charge added automatically. Our bill was £50.33 including the 'discretionary' service charge. (one shared nibbles, two mains, one beer, one soda) We handed over a £50 gift card and were asked to pay the 33p, which I declined. Could be good, but personally won't be back. Lots of better places locally in our opinion.

Such a shame! I am hoping we came at a really bad time, as the staff, location, and ambience were lovely. Sadly, though, that's where the positives ceased. Upon arrival, we were told it would be 30 mins before we could order food, as we found out later. This was due to staff being relocated to a partner restaurant and not returned. When we sat down, it was in a lovely spot right next to a large wine display. The first error was to display supermarket wines and then charge these out at up to 300% markup! £12 to £48 etc. Maybe it would be better to stock vintners' quality wines at those prices, especially if you proudly display them. This then set the tone, as the prices seemed very over inflated throughout. As The Bothy was advertised as a gastropub, I was surprised to see not one single beer available on draught, only average bottled beers. I opted for table water, and the other 2 guests had a very expensive elderflower cordial. On to the food then, just ready to order and the lovely waitress reeled off items no longer available, sadly our choices had gone. My mum then opted for a smoke salmon starter, my partner a festive sandwich, and myself a whisky infused smoked salmon sandwich. Judge for yourself in the photos about the quality and how much would be acceptable to be charged. My partners sandwich was missing half of its ingredients and was returned. Mine was missing whisky infused salmon, and the fries were straight out of the freezer. I can understand the pressures involved, especially at Christmas, but sadly I could go on. As I said at the start, the staff where amazing, and when the bill arrived if had been adjusted accordingly. My suggestion, ask upon upon entry if they are having a bad day!

The Bothy has nice decor and the waitress who served us was delightful. That’s where the praise finishes though. We opted in advance for the Autumn special ‘braw deal’ 3-course menu. The sample menu on the website and on socials advertised things like venison scotch egg, seafood crumble with a reasonable 3-4 choices per course . What we were offered today was soup or pate; followed by fish or chicken and chips. My partner and I both opted for the chicken, which turned out to be a chicken sandwich with loads of bread - to follow both our largely bread-dominated starters. With a large glass of wine coming in at £12.95 this ended up being a rather poor quality and value meal. I was very disappointed as I’ve had the Sunday lunch here before and thought it was quite good. The autumn deal is not so much ‘braw deal’ as advertised, but ‘Raw Deal’ unless you really love bread. Won’t rush back.

We do however apologise for the inconvenience due to the braw deal menu available on our website. We do very much appreciate you letting us know so that this can be checked. We are in the middle of reviewing our food menu & the braw deal menu and will absolutely discuss how this may be improved in the future. On the back of your feedback, we have updated the sample braw deal menu on our website. We definitely are grateful for you to sending us an email regarding the same where we can address this more appropriately. Best Regards,

Came for my Birthday with my daughter. Ordered a fish sharing platter and drinks on the app. A waiter came out to tell us they didn't have the fish platter so they would refund that amount. We waited a further 15 minutes and no drinks arrived. I spoke to a female manager who said they would process a full refund. To this day I am still waiting on the refund. I have contacted them and they claim they have sent a refund. It has not been processed properly and they are now refusing to reply to my e mails. I will now be taking this further. Do not use their ordering app unless you know they have the food available as they will not give you your money back! So dishonest!!!

We were there for my 60th birthday treat , unfortunately it was horrendous. An hour for the starters to arrive all missing butter with the bread , mains eventually came two of the three chicken missing potatoes all three minus charred corn , my venison for £28 a joke - two fondant potatoes 😔 took two requests to get a drink and for water . Given free desserts and coffee by way of apology- not good enough. My wife is coeliac so booked as it seemed they were good with gluten free, however the menu was marked low gluten which may as well have been high gluten as the effect is the same so they clearly don’t understand the condition !! So as well as the worst meal in my 60 years my wife was also Ill the following day and through the night. Just appeared no one knew what they were doing from top to bottom, won’t survive long on this showing 😔😔

I booked a table last week for Christmas Day lunch at The Bothy and I was really looking forward to it but they have just called me to say that unless we make food selection and pay in full before mid-day today they will cancel my table. How on earth can I do that when my guest is not with me and how (2 days before my visit) unreasonable is that ? Bothy has just ruined my Christmas Day, thanks a bunch guys. I will NEVER return to a place treating customers so badly and with management so desperate to maximise income that they bully customers like this. My advice…. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Hey @Z1814TAneilw, Thank you for taking the time out to share your feedback. I am extremely apologetic you had to go through that process to book a table at Christmas here, as it is one of the special occasion where we look forward to making all of our guest's experience best of their times. Due to the large amount of bookings, we try to reserve the tables accordingly , one of the key reasons for the deposit is to fix your table at the venue. Although, we do however apologise for the inconvenience due to the process. We do very much appreciate you letting us know so that this can be checked. We will definitely be taking your feedback into consideration while reviewing our plans for the upcoming occasions. Should you wish to discuss your experience further, please do feel welcome to contact me directly on 01334 477 422. Best Regards, The Bothy team.

Had a booking at 1:30pm for Mother’s Day lunch. Was busy inside and nice decorations, friendly staff too. We were seated and ordered drinks then ordered food. A nice Scottish twist on some traditional dishes. Myself I ordered the pate for starters not too much to comment on just too much pate and not enough bread. Then we waited for our mains. 2 corn fed chicken and 2 lamp rumps. When ordering we had asked for no savoy cabbage and asked for another veg instead like carrots with the lamb. We had also asked if the lamb could be cooked medium and for some extra gravy on the side. The waiter then replied with oh sorry the meat just comes how it is prepared, fair enough. But she said about the gravy I’m sorry I wouldn’t ask the chef right now he’s very busy. Not great customer service. The mains came, I have to mention the plates where not hot when the food came out and the lamb came on the plate on its own with 5 new baby potatoes( the menu states lamb with hassle back potato’s) so we highlighted this to a member of staff and they said they will take it back, the manager I assume then come and apologised and said a new one was on its way. At this point the other two dishes of chicken shoul have been taken back too and we should have been able to eat together. However we got on with our meal the lamb then came out with carrots and the new potatoes sliced to look like hastlebacks and some feta cheese on top. Yes very odd. As we have all worked in the hospital sector we understand that at times it can be busy but if you cannot operate and serve a standard of food then you simply need to take a step back and stop talking in bookings till you have things under control. The staff were very apologetic but clearly inexperienced. Lamb was taken off the bill however I don’t think we will be returning.

The room was extremely cold. No toilet paper in both ladies loos. The food was awful. Despite giving advanced notice requesting dairy free food, they were not prepared. We all ordered turkey - they said they only had 3 portions left (there were no other diners in the restaurant at that point) - they then said they had more turkey available. They served burgers with crisps. No veg or salad. No chips on offer. We had to request some salad with the burger. They served only salad leaves. They said that all their veg was pre-cooked in butter!? Main courses for the group were not served at the same time. A very poor festive lunch experience.

Wouldn’t recommend, staff friendly enough but would not say it was value for money, my husband ordered the burger off the main menu, my daughter ordered the burger from the kids menu, when they arrived there was no difference, to the point that the waitress gave my husband my daughters meal. Same for the dessert, majority of us ordered the sticky toffee pudding, only difference, apart from price was the plate size. Portions exact same size. My children ordered the fruit platter for starter, this consisted of 6-8 questionable grapes and a slice of apple cut and put on a cocktail stick.

I have never left a review about a restaurant, but feel the need to pass on my experience and disappointment. I was a frequent customer of the Dolls house restaurant, which was excellent. I thought they had just had a name change to the Bothy so took my children for Sunday lunch. The food was awful and over priced with over an hour wait for the main course. Starters were limited or unavailable due to supplier problems, because of poor service we left before dessert. My steak was £39 pound without any sauce as this was also unavailable, although after asking the waitress brought out some. A truly awful and costly experience, one which I will not repeat.

Always like to give a new restaurant a visit, so went online to check The Bothy website and was pleasantly surprised to see a sample of their Braw Deal menu which looked reasonable value. A choice of 5 starters, 5 mains & 4 desserts seemed good, so duly booked a table through their website. We arrived on a sunny evening so sat outside for drinks but since nobody thought to offer us a menu, had to go seek one out. When the female member of staff handed me the menus she advised that there was only one piece of fish left. This was 5.30 in the evening! On reading the menu, we were astonished to find that the choice was 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts. Nothing like shown on their website. If someone else hooked the last piece of fish, we were left with one option of a main course which was venison burger. Consequently, we didn’t bother ordering from such a very limited menu and headed elsewhere. I would suggest the website sample menu is very misleading and would urge this restaurant to be careful of how deceitful such an advert could be.

Really wanted to like this place. It was very cute on the inside. Unfortunately they were out of each beer on the menu except for one. It was very difficult to get drinks served at all as they were extremely understaffed. It took several requests for water as well as second round of drinks. The kitchen was very backed up and so it took us 1 1/2 hours to get our food. When the food arrived it was not good and not well cooked, to the point that we all left fairly hungry. It seems that they have some kinks that need to be worked out to get things in better order.

The Both hits the right spot in charming St. Andrew’s for delicious, well-prepared food in a pretty, upscale English restaurant setting. Our lamb and chicken dinners were sauced perfectly, and the Scotch egg and salted beet root salad were fresh takes on these standards. We ate upstairs for a larger meal with Freda as our fabulous attentive server, and liked it so much we returned the next night to sit on the main level for a more simple soup, chicken Caesar and mussels meal. Outside seating available for lunch and the nice evening. Recommended!
