Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Service was very good and a 10% service charge was added to your bill. Roast beef came with 4 vegetables, roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. The beef was not the best cut and the food got cold on the plate quickly as it was...not served on a warm/hot plate. Price was reasonable at £19.More

Welcoming atmosphere with quirky decor. Arrived for late Sunday lunch and not disappointed. The Venison and Lamb were superb. Not massive portions but personally that was a plus as had room for desert and a cocktail. Vasu our waitress was helpful in providing recommendations and...efficient. Everything that came from the kitchen was flavoursome and hot. Had an electronic voucher which had trouble scanning but Manager sorted this promptly. A very enjoyable experience, would definitely return.More

Visited for a family birthday lunch. The service was ok but the general consensus was that the food was quite poor and we wouldn’t return. -Cullen Skink was below average and the accompanying bread was stale -Burger was below average -Chicken Caesar salad was quite...nice Service charge was added to the bill (20% I believe, perhaps cause we were a fairly large group). We paid it but def won’t be back.More

Wouldn’t recommend, staff friendly enough but would not say it was value for money, my husband ordered the burger off the main menu, my daughter ordered the burger from the kids menu, when they arrived there was no difference, to the point that the waitress...gave my husband my daughters meal. Same for the dessert, majority of us ordered the sticky toffee pudding, only difference, apart from price was the plate size. Portions exact same size. My children ordered the fruit platter for starter, this consisted of 6-8 questionable grapes and a slice of apple cut and put on a cocktail stick.More

We were there for my 60th birthday treat , unfortunately it was horrendous. An hour for the starters to arrive all missing butter with the bread , mains eventually came two of the three chicken missing potatoes all three minus charred corn , my venison...for £28 a joke - two fondant potatoes 😔 took two requests to get a drink and for water . Given free desserts and coffee by way of apology- not good enough. My wife is coeliac so booked as it seemed they were good with gluten free, however the menu was marked low gluten which may as well have been high gluten as the effect is the same so they clearly don’t understand the condition !! So as well as the worst meal in my 60 years my wife was also Ill the following day and through the night. Just appeared no one knew what they were doing from top to bottom, won’t survive long on this showing 😔😔More

Friendly service from Vasu and her colleagues, tasty traditional food, well prepared, and served hot. After a starter and a main each we were too full for dessert - the fish pie was particularly generous - so can't comment on that corner of the menu....Very pleasant and no regrets at all about the choice.More

This was our first visit to the Bothy in the centre of St Andrews. The venue was quiet on the day we visited but on the day we thoroughly enjoyed a venison burger and seafood crumble. The menu offered a range of inviting options at...a fair price. The setting and location are excellent and the staff attentive. Well worth the visit.More

Food did not meet the menu description. Ordered the pork loin with bonbon and delphinois potatoes. We got a chop cut in half, mashed potatoes and no bonbon. The only thing that was hot was the chop. My husband had to send his fries back...with his burger as they were cold. The waiting staff severed then disappeared, so could not be addressed. I should have seen the signs, walking in having booked , two tables who walked in after us were given drinks and menus prior to us receiving a menu or drinks. At the end of the meal, the chef was smoking outside the front of the restaurant, with who I presume was the manager, still with his whites on. The restaurant had four small tables in to and 3 waiting staff, a manager on a lap top.... For quite an expensive place, this was a complete disappointment.More

The bothy is a welcoming place to meet and eat. My meal was good. I had the haddock which I hoped would have been larger. However it was cooked to absolute perfection and the chips were superb. Our server Vasu could not have been either...more helpful or cheery.More

We have been to this restaurant a few times - usually with friends visiting from England who want to visit St Andrews. We were here for lunch this time and tried some lighter options for a change. I had the club sandwich and it was...fantastic. Others had the salmon and it was nice too. We usually have had larger meals and this was the first time we’d tried the lighter options and might do that again. The last time we were here - I was convinced it was the waitresses first day as she was really poor. We had the same person a month later and there is still a lot of room for improvement so service was no better than average.More
