Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had breakfast here and enjoyed it very much but the tea was not nice at all, far too strong and wasnt served with hot water on the side. The cafe appears to reserve a lot of tables for later in the day when they could...be used a few times before that, or as its just a small place dont reserve as its always busy anyway.More

Lovely spot. Informal cafe. We had breakfast. Didn’t wait long for a seat. Very good service. We had cooked breakfast each and coffees. Coffees were delicious. Served at the perfect temperature and just right. Thankyou.

Our favorite breakfast / brunch spot when in St. Andrews. Great food, a cozy setting, and the staff is warm and welcoming. A special shout-out to Sarah, who could not be more accommodating or charming.

Stopped in for light lunch and the food was very tasty. Most of us had soup or Cullen skink or sandwich. When ordering we said we would order coffees after as likely have cake . After having finished waiting to order waitress came up and...said do you want to pay… we advised we were waiting to order coffee etc. She came back after we had them and asked again did we want to pay . We were taking excessive time we would have been quicker if service was better. Positives though food was good and dog friendly throughoutMore

My wife had Cullen Skink and reported it was most agreeable. I had a much lauded mac and cheese (£11 for mac and cheese is a lot) The menu stressed their secret 3 cheese sauce recipe. Honestly, it should stay a secret. It was a...bland tasteless watery sauce. The crust was anything but and the whole dish was barely warm. Very disappointing. I should have sent it back but us Brits are not very good at that. The tea was good and strong though. Dog friendly and they offer a doggy treat menu for £3 (which is basically a strip of beef Jerky). Over all - not an enjoyable experience (waiting staff were lovely, no complaints there) and it is all ridiculously overpriced.More

So happy to hear that your wife enjoyed her cullen skink and your dog enjoyed his/her treat. I’m also really pleased that you all enjoyed our friendly customer service, however, I’m sorry to hear that your mac n cheese wasn’t up to its usual standard....More

The absolute worst place you can eat in St Andrews. Went with my son, and was first of served a lukewarm coffee by a service team who failed to engage me as a customer. This was then met with a second course of stale cake...about fifteen minutes later, something you would be shocked to see from a cafe (especially one that supposedly specialises in cakes). If you are looking for something sweet to eat whilst in the town, go to Fisher and Donaldson, go to Gorgeous, even go to Greggs! But whatever you do... DO NOT go to the Cottage Kitchen!More

Apologies if we did not meet your expectations on this occasion. I must say I’m a huge fan of Fisher & Donaldson too and the other businesses you mention in your review, but I’m also a huge fan of what we do. I’m also very...More

Stopped in on a chilli autumn Monday afternoon, we had to pop in when passing when we seen it was dog friendly. Everything was first class, lovely chap who served us recommended the steak frites and sausage roll, although the sausage roll was a bit...too big for me to finish, it was so good. My husbands steak was so full of flavour and the sauce was amazing! Dog menu is a nice touch. Will definitely be back when we are in the areaMore

Fantastic Breakfast and good portions. We stumbled across this restaurant and were lucky to get a table as going by reviews it’s always busy. We had varied breakfasts and food was delicious and plentiful. Staff which is important to me were very attentive. A good...experience and will visit on our next trip.More

AVOID My daughter ordered a hot chocolate and when she took a sip found a HUGE house spider in it. Staff were totally unbothered. Eventually offered us a discount off the bill but only when challenged.

Had lunch here on a busy weekday, the team squeezed us in on an outside table, the place was very busy - Always a good sign! Two of our party had a hot lunch and two a sandwich. Food delicious all round, sandwiches very full....Service not the best, but appreciate that the staff were very busy. Generous menu, pricing appropriate for a city centre cafe. We would revisit.More

We popped in here for some tea and cake. It is tucked away off the main church square so glad we found it. The cakes were absolutely delicious washed down with a lovely pot of tea. Nice relaxing spot

Food in this cafe is absolutely outstanding and delicious, and the service is amazing. Everything homemade 20 out of 10 but had to step over dogs to get to my table outside, also dog's inside cafe. I do not like dining with dog's, so for...this reason I will not be back, what a waste of great food . I have just bought a new holiday home in st andrews and thought this would be our new favourite cafe. I think the owners need to rethink the dog situation as not everyone likes to dine with dogsMore
