Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Overly priced mediocre food. Fillet steak with small pot of fries and a sauce, with nothing else on the plate, £34. Great venue and helpful staff. If the food matched the price it would be great, but it doesn’t.

A place that has ‘steaks’ in the name you’d expect a decent steak at least, not the case, terrible, full of gristle. Very disappointed and won’t be back!

Was looking for the -0 review button, went here for Sunday lunch £44.00 a head, starter Olives and a little bit of bread each, main course a very very small started plate of poach eggs on a slice of sourdough bread with avocado (this is...a nice breakfast or starter not brunch) DJ spent most of the day videoing cd or social media, service changes on every single round of drinks, one waitress was good and poor girl had to listen ti the whole place complaining, left went to pub along street where it was cheaper friendlier and service was fab, the only saving grace in C&S was the Sax player everything else was nothing short of a rip off, they should be wearing masks!!!!More

Ordered fillet steak well done specifically asked for it not to be butterflied After waiting approx 40 which we are happy to do to ensure it’s cooked we were presented with the worst steak I’ve ever seen . When I addressed this with the manager...I was told it’s a butterfly cut I was gob smacked that they thought it was acceptable to serve this. The others had chateubriand which was average ( not convinced it was fillet) When I visit a steak restaurant I expect to eat good steak, not what was served in this occasion.More

Beautiful venue, with great food but poor service. We hadn’t finished our drinks and we were asked to leave (2x half bottles of wine). No time for dessert and if we had a starter we would have had to rush our mains. I appreciate that...there is a two-hour table slot but the speed of service needs to match this.More

Absolutely devastated to have to post this but I’m so upset & disappointed that I can’t ignore our experience. We booked for Christmas Eve afternoon & were fully aware of our 2hour slot yet have left tonight feeling super sad. We arrived at 14.40pm (our...table was booked for 14.45pm) & shown to our table immediately. At 15.05pm our drinks arrived (standard cheesy ‘cheers’ photo attached for time relevance).. We ordered starters then mains - our mains arriving at 16.10pm (again photo attached for time relevance = 1hr & 25mins from taking our seats). Until this point, we were thoroughly enjoying the food, the atmosphere & our waitress’ service. Mid way through our Steaks (16.32pm) we were advised that they required the table back for 16.45pm. The poor waitress who was really lovely & highly apologetic had clearly been sent by the management. From receiving our mains at 16.10pm we were clearly expected to eat them, enjoy them, perhaps order puddings, maybe a coffee, pay the bill, breathe & vacate our table by 16.45pm ?????? (35mins to eat a main, consult the desert menu, order, wait for it, eat, order coffee & pay?!?!). The waitress did come back to advise we could extend our visit until 17.00pm but by then our joyous visit had been ruined. Like I said, I fully appreciate the time constraints that were advised on booking but what do we do as customers when drinks, starters, mains take such a long time to arrive???? We never got to look at the desert menu let alone order. I did mention my complaint to the Manager on my way out but I’m not sure it was even acknowledged. After being a regular customer at Cocktails & Steaks over the last 5years, & a huge advocate of them, I’m bitterly disappointed.More

Arrived early because of the train stood at the door for a good 5/10 mins before we were approached by a member of staff, were taken to our table and then the came back 15 odd mins later asking for a drinks order I hadn’t...even looked at the menu so asked them to come back a further 15 mins later they came back drinks ordered, drinks arrived 10 minutes after ordering and we ordered our food, had to ask about the steak on the market menu as it wasn’t explained very well on the menu anyway ordered our food all was good, after being in the premises for 1 hour we finally received or starter which we decided to share we had the haggis bonbons it was 3 very small balls of haggis so was consumed within 3 minutes as we had waited ages, waited an almost further 30 mins for our mains, when they arrived the presentation was outstanding, however the steak was so salty that about half way through I just couldn’t eat it anymore and gave up, the onion rings were great and the mac and cheese side was very dry, we got another round of drinks ordered when our main meal arrived, I was drinking french martinis, when it arrived I was told they had ran out of an ingredient so they had substituted it with something else, WITHOUT asking if that was okay, if I had known I would have picked something else, because we were having the market menu we opted to get a portion of ice cream to share to make the 2 course for each of us, the ice cream was delicious, all in all £100 later and I don’t think we will rush back, service very slow and although the food looks good I would advise you to be careful unless you want to feel like you have been drinking the sea with the saltiness of the meat.More

This place is WAY over rated! I was so looking forward to this having seen reviews on social media of this, but the service and food was wayyyy over priced and service was OK at best. My steak (£26) was bleeding all over my plate,...was luck warm and the peppercorn sauce in a jug had a skim on it showing it had laid their and was Luke warm and they still served it. You get no veg, you pay another £5 for that…there is Angels across the road serving much better quality, value for your money and excellent offers 2 meals for 1 Mon to thurs. I wouldn’t waste your money here!!!! Surprised it’s still open, for a place claiming to be ‘steaks’ it’s very mediocre and WAY over priced.More

The whole visit was 10/10. We visited on a Friday afternoon, had the market menu. The steak was one of the best I’ve had, as was the Rioja. Amazing value and service. Can’t wait to come back!

We were really looking forward to our meal at Cocktail & Steak as we had been recommended by family members but my wife and had fillet & T bone steaks but were really disappointed in the steaks and the home made chips. Steaks didn’t taste...like any steaks we had tasted before and chips were overcooked. Staff were friendly enough but the meal was poorMore

DO NOT BUY VOUCHERS BE AWARE vouchers are only valid for 6 months. We received quite a few restaurant vouchers as leaving gifts all of which give a year to use. Cocktail and Steak only allow 6 months. We were 2 months over and they...wouldn’t honor the voucher but would give a 10% discount. Not too great when they already have your money.More

Hi, sorry I've only just noticed your question (I really should have notifications on). They usually have a Market Menu that they do for a while and then switch it round. They are usually accommodating with requests.
