Where do I start? I suppose with an apology to the team for not posting a review after my previous takeaway from this outstanding establishment. I will sum that one up in one word, amazing. To todays offering. I have been shielding for over 4 months now and as a previous frequent visitor to Two Fat Ladies, the excellent staff and equally excellent food and value for money was sorely missed. When they advertised the takeaway menu I was initially cautious as I had not been into any shop or establishment for some time. When I collected my meal the COVID safe conditions were second to none. How easy was it prepare, the team emailed everything I needed from the dietary guidance to more importantly, an easy to use guide on how to re heat and plate the many courses. This was sent by email which could be printed for simple reference. Although the ambiance of the restaurant and attentive staff was missing, at home the meal was delicious and very little of the quality and standard was lost as a "takeaway". I look forward to the day I feel comfortable to re enter the establishment which is more down to my personal circumstances than any other factor as although the quality of the meal was almost equal at home to eating it in the restaurant, the experience of enjoying the interaction with the Two Fat Ladies committed and professional staff is still worth its weight in gold. Thank you and I look forward to your next menu change.

Having had a few less than adequate lockdown restaurant takeaways in the past few months, my gorgeous, hungry partner and I decided to use the ‘Two Fats to You’ service from our favourite Glaswegian venue. Initially, we were apprehensive about the order as so much about what we enjoy about the Buttery is the professional and hilarious staff, and the quirky venue, almost as much as the food. However, suffice it to say we had nothing to worry about; they delivered (well, I picked it up from the restaurant, lol! Socially distanced, I promise)... from supple filet steak to succulent spiced halibut via Asian inspired duck, we were stuffed to the gunnels and left glowing with satisfaction. Special mention should be reserved for the superb side dishes that almost stole the show: wonderful creamed cabbage with bacon and the best dauphinois we have ever had the privilege of passing our unworthy lips. The dishes require to be finished off at home in hot pans, which as a bit of a gourmet, I had no trouble in executing, the instructions were clear and it was not rocket science! At £30 per head, it was all somewhat of a bargain as well, considering how dear Chinese takeaways have become in our country. We can’t wait to get back once this plague gets its act together and the venue reopens and are considering placing another order for this week! Thank you Buttery, keep buttering us up with your buttery, buttery grub.

With the easing of lockdown this was the first chance my wife and I had of dining out and we returned to one of our favourite restaurants The Buttery and it certainly did not disappoint. I've always thought of The Buttery being at its best in the winter with its cosy vintage décor but the room was cool and comfortable on a sticky hot evening during the recent heatwave. The food was excellent as we dined from the early evening set menu, which is great value at £25 and the attentive, unfussy and friendly service is exceptional. Thank you Mark and the team for helping to provide a memorable night after this difficult time for us all.

First of all I really liked the ambiance, atmosphere and the staff. However, we ordered sea bream but the portions served were absolutely ridiculous, almost 35 gram thin slice of fish at best. Like if it was the last two pieces in the kitchen. Even a kid won't be happy with it. This apply to the rest of the dishes. Ended up paying £50 and still hungry.I'm not even of an eater and fine dining doesn't mean serving samples. These kind of things you can't complain about in a restaurant because it's just embarrassing. After this bad experience with my guest... Never again!

We heard that the Buttery may have the best Scallops in Glasgow, we were not disappointed. From walking in, there was the most wonderful decor and atmosphere (traditional Scottish) and we were greeted immediately by the superb staff who took our coats. Our table was not quite ready so they made us comfortable at a table in the bar area for an aperitif. The food was really enjoyable, very impressive and our server Mark could not have been more helpful for our gluten intolerant birthday girl. We just had such a lovely meal and time, excellent discussion too on the proper toasting etiquette here in Scotland with the waiter Angus. A little on the pricier side and further out of town than we’d preferred but a real lovely treat and worth the trip.

Visited the restaurant on a date. The atmosphere is extremely cosy, which is complimented by the extremely welcoming attitude of the staff. I've never experienced such fantastic service, really above and beyond. The restaurant itself is decorated traditionally and has comfortable seating and dim lighting. The food was delicious- our mains and dessert were fantastic, a white fish risotto special and a pork dish, followed by a beautiful creme brulé. Everything was delicate and we'll seasoned - however we were a touch let down by the Cullen skink starter which was less indulgent than the other courses. Two fat ladies could be considered slightly expensive in comparison to other restaurants in Glasgow however the food is lovely and the quality of service more than justifies the cost.i would definitely recommend visiting especially for a special occasion.

We had booked the restaurant for Lynda's birthday meal, neither of us had been before and choose it at a distance by reading reviews on Trip Advisor. I would just start by saying that this restaurant is not just about having a meal it is the complete dining experience. From the moment the taxi pulled up outside we were greeted and looked after by the most amazing staff. Small touches such as one of the waiters thinking to take a picture of the catch of the day special on his phone so we could see exactly what it was made of, and a waiter rushing to help as I pulled one of the heavy iron tables forward so that Lynda could take her seat. We both decided to do mains and sweets as we are lightweight. The food was fabulous, I had the seafood special, king prawns, scallops, on a bed of haggis, salmon on a mix of shredded vegetable's and sea bass on a beautiful rice bed. I added some broccoli and asparagus to this. Lynda went for the chicken risotto. We had also been offered some chilli bread and some seeded bread before the mains which was delicious and we still managed to finish the mains despite indulging in the bread. For dessert we both went for the creme brulee, mainly because we were so full from the main course. The service was excellent, there was always someone ready to refill your glass or ask if all was well without being in your face and all the staff were clearly enjoying their shift. Nothing was too much trouble, a waiter called us a taxi which turned up within 5 minutes and then agreed to take a couple of pictures of us both using my phone outside before we left. In terms of value we paid £96.00 for the meal, two glasses of prosecco and two glasses of wine and whilst that may seem a bit high to some it was really worth every penny as the service that came with the meal was so refreshing to experience. Well done all. Top marks we will be back!!

A truly memorable meal. From arrival we were welcomed with 5 star service and the traditional Scottish fayre was superb and very reasonably priced. I had the duck with black pudding, lady had the Mackrell both superb. Mains of fillet was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the lamb was tasty. Onto the showstopper.. the desert of baked white chocolate meringue was up there with the best we have both tasted. Washed down with a fantastic bottle of Fume and for £140 was worth every penny. We dined at the highly rated Ubiquitous chip and it was not even a patch on the service and quality of food at the buttery. We will be back for sure.

The restaurant is an institution and worthy of that accolade. The style - crockery, cutlery (some from the much lamented Green Cockatoo in Kirkcaldy's High Street and of very fond memory to me now enjoying a second life at the Buttery), furnishings and to some extent the menu - is traditional and it works for me. Of the three "rooms" that at the front with the very grand bar is the best but we were in the middle, the front being set mainly for larger groups. The menu confused us at first. We were offered two, the al la carte and the lunch menus though the latter was labelled "dinner". Actually almost every dish on the a la carte was on the three course, with choices, "lunch" menu. We enjoyed the Cullen skink though it was of the less creamy variety than some would expect. It was, like the main course venison, generous and that continued into desserts. My venison was almost perfect, pink as chef recommends but tough in a couple of bites. I thought the accompanying barley melange rather too much but the side of dauphinoise potatoes was heavenly. We did not need the warm frangipani tart with coconut ice cream and stewed plums but we ordered it and it really worked for us. Throughout service was pleasant, professional and attentive without being intrusive. There is list of reasonable wines by the glass though some prices seem to reflect accountancy in action. I do think that the seating arrangements could be more distanced at this time of continuing concerns especially when it was far from full. Signage was very public health focussed but seating did not live up to that in my opinion.

We had heard about The Buttery for many years but never made it here. Tonight... a dreicht, rain soaked Glasgow Wednesday evening was raised to a heavenly level by The Buttery fine dining experience and enhanced by our server Mark. Not too much patter, not too much fuss but 5 star service and wonderful food. Thank you Mark and The Buttery. Wonderful eating places are alive and kicking in Glasgow ❤ xx

Cosy, inviting space with wood panelled walls, tartan carpets & beautiful linen & crockery. Service was warm & friendly & the food was faultless. The menu is relatively small but with enough choice to satisfy most tastes. We had the scallops, duck, halibut & lemon sole, everything was perfectly cooked & beautifully presented. Highly recommended :-)

Recently we returned to The Buttery with friends from Edinburgh (we had taken them there some months previously) because of how impressed they had been. Once again it was outstanding both in service and in food. It has an unique ambiance and we are always so impressed whenever we visit it. Adam and his staff are always delightfully helpful and attentive.......we highly recommend this superb restaurant for food, service and value. And there is on site parking which is a huge bonus.

I visited The Buttery before a show at the Hydro and honestly had the best meal in my life. My mum thought the same. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked into the restaurant and coats were hung up, greetings and offers of drinks etc. The decor was really quirky, my mum joked that she felt like we were on the Titanic. Staff were very attentive throughout the meal. Not once did we need to pour our own drinks. I had the Cullen skink for starter and it was delicious, nice and light and a touch of creaminess also. Had the halibut with Cajun spice, with avocado mouse, coconut rice and a corn type relish. It was absolutely delicious! The piece of halibut was also very generous. Finished off with a coffee that was served with a delicious and lovely selection of petit fours, which I wasn’t expecting and was a nice treat to end the night. Couldn’t fault the staff at all, they were really friendly, professional and on the ball. The atmosphere in the restaurant area was one of calm and people coming together. I live in Fife, so getting to Glasgow takes time, but I’ll definitely make the effort to come back. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Just been to the buttery today as our weekend away was cancelled due to our friend covid-19 being a pest. Thankfully Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery had just reopened. So we booked a lunch to console ourselves . We were not disappointed. The service from start to finish was amazing, but the food was even better. The price for 2 for a 2 course lunch was £50 but would have easily paid more for the quality and quantity. First time we had been in a while but will be back soon. Thankyou for getting our weekend back on track.

Hadn’t been in a while and was looking forward to it. The staff were friendly but the food disappointing. The starter was so bland and the fish overcooked. Not what I would expect, with so many restaurants to choose from in Glasgow I’d recommend trying elsewhere for the money. Such a shame for somewhere that used to be so good!
