The pani puri is mouthwatering, and the aloo chaat is a burst of flavours. The main course is making an aroma around you. Food is authentic and staff are lovely always make us feel very welcome and also very reasonably priced Will be going back for sure .

We visited this restaurant on a Wednesday night during Covid. Booking was easy and straightforward, upon arrival we were shown to a lovely table for 2 and were immediately asked if we wanted a drink. That was music to our ears, too many restaurants leave you to pour over the menu whilst gasping for a drink. I was offered a free sample of the house draught lager and it certainly hit the spot. We ordered a starter each and the masalla nuts to accompany them. My chicken pakora was fresh and certainly plentiful. My wife's starter was delivered on a lovely themed trolley and she was politely instructed how to eat it. Main courses were amazing, my wife had the lamb which melted in the mouth, whilst my chicken was spiced correctly and tasted just how my curries in India tasted. The accompanying bread was thin and crispy, just how we like our breads. The service was amazing throughout and the manager even gave us a free desert. Overall, this was an excellent meal and because it was a Wednesday in October, it cost less than £40 for two people, two courses each and two alcoholic drinks. We will definitely be back!!

First time visiting the restaurant, had high expectations from reading reviews on TA. When we arrived it was fairly quiet however being 6.30 on Monday evening not surprised, despite being when government 50% off discount was running. We decided to share a starter of tandoori broccoli. It did take a while to arrive however the manager apologised and gave us a complementary small spicy tomato soup each. The starter was nice, maybe a little too spicy but enjoyed it. It was served with a little rice and mint + yoghurt dip. My mains my wife and I both had whole tandoori seabass which came with rice and pot of curry sauce. The fish was lovely, the rice cooked perfectly and the curry sauce was a lovely mild and slightly fruity flavour. We were delighted when the manager brought us both complimentary desert of ice cream and a small warm indian desert, think it was gulab. We had a lovely meal, staff very friendly and attentive. It was great to get the meal half price but would return and be happy to pay full price.

Lovely decor and excellent service which cannot be faulted , however we were seated near the kitchen end and there seemed to be a draft coming from the kitchen area possibly a door open to keep the kitchen cool. Pity food was not on a par with service and decor. Although the mushroom soup complimentary taster was delicious. For starters we had the kaathi roll at £7.50 not a cheap starter so I was expecting something authentic and special. What we got was small Mexican tortilla wraps with some chicken and peppers in it. The real deal would have been a paratha like roll with a spicy chicken filling which this was not, the best part was the mint chutney that was perfect. For mains we had the rara gosht which was okay I have tasted better lamb curries, the sauce was thick and oily which made it heavy. My friend had butter chicken which again was okay but nothing more. The rice was typical multicoloured takeaway rice no aroma or flavouring through it. Good rice should have the aromas of cardommom, cloves, cinnamon, etc, this had nothing. The peshwari naan was half the size of most Glasgow restaurants with some sweet dessicated coconut inside again perfectly edible but for a bill of £63 plus for 2 you expect something special. So this was 3 cokes at £9 and poppadoms, 2 curries with rice and one naan to share at £63 I would be happy if the food had been authentic rather than their own interpretation. The chef could take lessons from Ackbars or the Village two of Glasgows best, and I have eaten in far too many curry houses in the UK and abroad for over 40years. Unfortunately I will not be rushing back nor will I be recommending to any of my family who know exactly what a good curry should be. Yes many will be drawn by the decor and service but number 1 should be the taste which is just very average.

Our visit to Green Gates didn’t live up to what we were expecting from the restaurant. The starter of poppadoms is hard to go wrong with however we were given spicy onion dip without even asking for it and were charged for it. The vegetable pakora was tasty and we had no complaints with it. For the mains, we were in shock at the amount of curry we were given. The mains were served in small looking frying pans which were 80% sauce and had about 4 pieces of chicken in each dish. It was a disgrace. We have never been so shocked at the size of a dish given to us in a restaurant and for the price it is, expected a lot more in quantity, not to mention that in terms of quality it wasn’t great at all either. I would not recommend this restaurant, Obsession of India is round the corner and is much better for quantity and quality.

Initial impressions on entering the restaurant are positive due to the interesting decor, and the not too lengthy menu. The staff are friendly, although could probably do with an increase in numbers as appeared to be struggling a little on a busy Saturday night. Unfortunately, the food does not live up to expectations. There are a sprinkling of 'modern' Indian dishes, but there are many old school British Indian restaurant standards, rather than authentic dishes. Whilst the chicken and fish pakora starters were okay (accompanied for some reason by couscous), the main courses were disappointing and tasted very much like cooked with standard sauces. On the positive side, the food was reasonably priced and the option to have smaller main course dishes is helpful.

Booked a pre theatre Valentine's treat with my boyfriend as the place had been highly recommended. The decor was great when we arrived - every nook and cranny had been made festive with balloons and table furnishings. It is a bit of a weird set up with the kitchen having no door and being in the same cramped corridor as the toilets. Toilets, in addition, were clean enough. Seen better, seen worse. The staff/service were, unfortunately, where the night let itself down. I saw very little etiquette when it came to waiting on our table. Served by either 4 waiters at once or you wouldn't see one for 20 minutes at a time; never an inbetween! Poor timing of when drinks and food orders were taken, all very strange. It got to the point that we were being brought a course before the last one had been cleared! All this aside, bonus points for the complimentary sparkling wine, little soup taster and Valentine's sweets with the bill. Food was above average but otherwise not much to speak of, sadly. Certainly not worth the prices which was disappointing. Overall, with a little TLC this has the potential to be a really good joint 😊

Had dinner here with my partner after winning a meal for two via their facebook competition with Glasgow Evening Times. Lovely venue, not far from the city centre and very easy to find. We were greeted by the manager who showed us to a table and brought us some water and asking us which drinks we would like. He returned a while later with our drinks and some menus to look over. We were given a broccoli soup appetizer which was lovely as we made our decisions for the rest fo the meal. We had chicken pakora and lamb samosas as starters which were beautiful and just the right amount to try between us both. Our main meals were gorgeous, and piping hot when brought to the table ( Butter Chicken and Lamb Karahi ) , you could really taste the fresh ingredients in the meal which really added to flavour of the dishes. Throughout, we were attended by the manager and a waiter to make sure everything was going well which was great. Overall it was a great experience here that would see us return very soon to prehaps try some other things on the menu. Thank you for making it a lovely evening for us.

This is the second time visiting and I can’t find any down fall. The food is exquisite, reasonably priced with fast table service. Staff are well mannered and well spoken. Very Respectful!!!!! I returned with a different group of friends and they all agreed that Green Gates Cafe are the best Indian restaurant in Glasgow, a definite force to be reckoned with, especially with the standard of food that they offer. There are options available for vegetarians which is helpful considering half of my party are vegetarian, there is also a tandoori & healthy menu with a mains option where rice and curry sauce are provided at no extra cost if ordered from that menu. Also their appetising soup as a starter is completely free! And delicious! Atmosphere is relaxing and slightly romantic for you couples out there looking for a new place to dine, I seriously recommend.

This is the 3rd restaurant for Tarun and Bali, we have followed these guys between Stirling, Renfrew and now a new restaurant in the heart of the city. The food is exceptional, and has continued to be in all 3 restaurants no matter which one you visit. A good range of dishes with the choice of small plates also, complimentary cup of soup as an Appetizer is a nice touch. The service is first class and you are greeted with a warn welcome that make you feel like a valued customer. This restaurant is a must

We visited on Saturday night and had a starter each with two small curries each as a main. We loved being able to try smaller versions of each dish and they were portioned perfectly. The butter chicken is to die for and the chicken pakora is the best we have ever had. A light batter with fresh chicken. We will definitely return, could possibly be one of our new favourite restaurants. Service was excellent too!

My wife and I ate here last night and it was a superb meal. While waiting on the food we were given a small cup of delicious tomato soup, which was a nice touch. We ordered fish pakora to start followed by a small lamb curry, a large seafood curry rice and naan. All the food and accompaniments were lovely but the lamb curry was wonderful. One of the nicest I have tasted. We finished off by sharing a Gulab Jamun with ice cream, which was also very nice. I don't know who their chef is but they need to hang onto him. Service was great and the people were so friendly and genuine.

We wanted to get together for a meal and due to not being able to visit because of Covid we chose this restaurant as we had recently passed by. Great choice. When we entered we were met by a tastefully decorated restaurant and very pleasant staff who couldn't have been more helpful. The menu was made up of more unusual dishes and there was also a different menu with healthier options but 'old favourites' were available upon request. The manager made sure everyone was catered for and that we had everything we wanted. Everything we chose was freshly cooked and delicious. Great wine made for a wonderful meal and we decided to have 'one for the road' while we waited for our taxi. Definitely worth a visit.

We dined at Green Gates Merchant City on Friday night and had an amazing experience. The food was delicious & authentic and the staff were definitely up there with the friendliest in town; who were more than happy to talk us through the menu, give recommendations and overall make us feel extremely welcome. We spoke with the owner Balram, who explained his ethos for the restaurant is to treat every diner like a guest in his own home - with 100% shows given the level of service we experienced. Couldn't recommend highly enough - we will be back very soon with friends and family!
