About
Possibly the best sports centre cafe in Scotland, if not The World! If scaling a wall with only a rope for support doesn't get your blood flowing then a meal at the Balcony Cafe certainly will. Chef Liam McAlpine loves to spice things up and regularly updates his mouthwatering menu to keep diners on their toes. This modest eatery at the top of the Glasgow Climbing Centre, a converted church, certainly packs a punch. Sandwiches with names like Joey Tribbiani (a pastrami and cheese feast) and Socrates, featuring falafel, hummus and tzatziki, are available on a variety of breads - including gluten/wheat free - and can come accompanied by a tasty soup for just a fiver. As well as the popular haggis nachos, the specials board showcases generously portioned main courses like cumberland sausage with chorizo mash, and chicken salad with Stornoway black pudding and roasted veg; all cooked from fresh on-site. Tapa coffee and a fab cake selection are well worth climbing (the stairs) for, too.

Ate at the cafe whilst doing some climbing and cannot fault it. As it's situated in an indoor climbing centre inside an old church space is limited therefore don't expect the largest menu selection, but the food on offer is excellent. I had the haggis nachos and it was filling. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, you also have great views across the climbing walls if you're interested in climbing.

Easily my go to place when looking for something to eat in Glasgow. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere with the great view makes this Glasgow best kept secret. The breakfast stacks which change every month are my favourite with a great selection of all coffees. Keep your eyes peeled for the pop up events which they run every month doing a 5 course tasting menu it usually sells out fast but is not to be missed. Spread the word folks

Have attended the pop ups and popped in for lunch in a number of occasions. Got speaking to the chef Liam and asked whether they would do external catering for our sons first birthday. We arranged a price and a range of options and it was well organised abs communicated. I particularly liked the food cards to put next to each item. Most importantly the food was exceptional and had the variety we required for the kids and the adults.

Liam's food is incredible - inventive, satisfying and endlessly interesting, and of course bursting with flavour. The best veggie food I've eaten in ages, and the meat dishes looked equally as good. Liam catered the SDTC winter hut meet, and his food is perfectly tailored to pick you up and restore your spirits after a hard day - a real hug on a plate. Liam's passion for food really shines through, and I can't wait to eat his cooking again.

Wonderful food with a constantly changing menu and amazingly creative, flavourful dishes. Really unique setting overlooking the GCC climbing wall to one side and the glas stained windows of the church building to the other side make this a truly unique venue. Everyone at Flavour Bomb is so friendly and helpful. The brunch and coffee are an absolute highlight! Whether you are climbing at GCC and want some food or simply looking for a great Café in Glasgow, this is the place to find it 😋

Every time my friend and I go climbing at the weekend we always end up in the cafe. Usually not through choice though. Picture this, you are 3/4 the way up the wall and this amazing out of this world smell just hits you. Before you know it, you stomach starts rumbling and you’re own you way back down and making your way towards the spiral staircase. I have tried so many new dishes I would never have tried and they have all been amazing. Even if you don’t fancy a meal, their coffee and cakes are equally delicious! Staff are always lovely too which makes the whole visit. Highly recommended! P.S. I’m now hungry after writing this.

Amazing quality food hidden in the Glasgow Climbing Centre. After 5 days of enjoying the Flavor Bomb Kitchen during the climbing meet at CIC hut, I will really miss it. Top notch menu from start to finish. Just beware that spicy options are often very spicy. I especially enjoyed the deserts!

We've eaten here a lot recently and we are both really impressed by the quality of the food. On a recent visit we had quesadillas, and they were really great, even the salad was amazing. The vicbe is casual and relaxed, you don't go there for the decor which is fine but not fancy. The food is what it's all about. Really fresh ingredients, good quality food, made with love and care. We go after a climb, but you don't need to be a climber to eat there. Anyone can pop in for food, so you should give it a try.

Awesome food, cooked fresh with top quality ingredients. Unless you are a climbing enthusiast you might not be aware of this hidden gem as it’s upstairs in the Glasgow Climbing Centre but it’s well worth a visit. Photos speak for themselves.

Liam was our chef at the CIC on the northside of Ben Nevis. This is a mountaineering hut used to access the north face. The Scottish Dry Tooling club have an annual climbing meet. The weather was wild, great company. But to but to the CIC was a highlight of the day. The food was amazing.

This is one of Glasgow’s hidden gems - well off the beaten path, this cafe does the best shakshuka in Glasgow. The menu changes every month but the quality is always terrific. Most recently I had a Spanish shakshuka with chorizo and black pudding which was excellent, and the ambience of the climbing centre is unique. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for your next brunch spot!
