We hadn't been here for a while and certainly not for dinner. So when ordering main courses, be sure to share one course unless you have a HUGE appetite. Starters were fine - spring rolls (4) for my wife and hot and sour soup for...me. The the steak, only good quality fillet here, and more than enough for 2 with 5 or 6 choices of sauce. Glad to see that some 'institutions' such as this don't changeMore
Great wee restaurant and have been going there for years and Xmas day is fantastic .Read some of the reviews and can’t get my head around it as if it was as bad as they say , why oh why didn’t they complain on the...day !! Best Chinese restaurant in Glasgow by miles , love it !More
This is a review I really didn’t want to write but having gave my old favourite restaurant numerous chances I feel it’s a must in the hope that the get their act together. Where to start. Firstly the owners must think everyone is stupid. I...got a takeaway which I do pretty regularly and the rice and chips portion sizes have dropped, chips have dropped significantly. Any other restaurant serve a full bag of chips, the Amber Regent used to too then reduced to just over a half a bag and now have reduced further to just under half a bag. The rice (one of the cheapest foods you can buy) is never full anymore either there’s no spring onions throughout like it used to have. Now on to the quality, chips are shocking, re-heats, hard and chewy. Prawn crackers were as if they had been collected off tables from the night before and resold, soggy and chewy. Can’t fault the actual curry or main dishes however the silly little details that won’t cost much to rectify let the whole meal down. Why make delicious food only to get the easy things wrong and if they are skimping on portion size I wonder if they are skimping on quality of poultry and meat. Must do better or I can see this once amazing restaurant folding. We are not daft stop trying to cheat your loyal customers and people won’t buy gimmicks like feeding the homeless promotions if the food is going downhill. Get the basics right it’s not hard for a well established restaurant.More
Fine dining at its best and lovely service. Best Chinese food in the city, been coming for years and will keep coming. Good value for money with the lunch menu too
We visit Glasgow every August and The Amber Regent is always the highlight of our culinary visiting! From the atmosphere of the venue to the attentiveness and professionalism of the staff you will struggle better this establishment anywhere. The food? Oh my goodness the food...is spectacular. Put yourselves in the hands of your waiter, inform them what you enjoy and allow them to deliver pure excellence on a plate. Fantastic experience every time we visit.More
On our quest to find the best chinese restaurant this was a first time visit. We were impressed with our surroundings making it a very comfortable environment. Our servers were very attentive and had us settled comfortably at our table. I chose hot and sour...soup to start with. It came out promptly and was a wise choice bursting with flavour. I always take that as a good omen of whats to come and I was not wrong. QWe opted for the mixed hors de houvres with a bit of swapping to cater for my seafood allergy. Well presented again it was a good choice with even better variety. We had chicken wings in honey and dim sum in addition to that with real quality food. We continued to our mains with aromatic crispy duck and steamed seabass. The duck was well mcooked and moist with the seabass beeing deboned and well cooked. This could well be a number one choice all round. We would definetely return and would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.More
46.00 2 course cola and vodka tonic lovely meal a treat for us but opposie street chines half the price ,saving up to try this place
I wrote a review in 2018 saying how this restaurant has gone downhill. We decided to try again and found it no better. The Amber used to be a special treat, not now. No prawn crackers offered, fried rice over cooked, aromatic lamb so full...of fat and grizzle, small portion sizes, cold coffee. Also no dinner mints or fortune cookies offered as before. The portable gas fire did not add to the ambiance of what was once a classy restaurant. They do manage to charge high prices though. We have been going since it was the Amber Royale in Argyle St, many years ago, I don’t think we will return.More
Cannot understand some of the previous nega istive reviews. We had . lovely delicious food and very good service. One out of two liqueur coffees (made with great care at the table) did not work out right and was duly replaced, no problem there. My...only concern was the lack of space at our table for six which left little elbow room for us to maneouvre once the meals were served on to the hotplates. Otherwise I, would rate our experience even higher. Yes it is a wee bit pricey for some items but the food was excellent nevertheless, highly recommended. Jim and RubyMore
Beautiful meal last night. We weren't sure what my grandson age 6 would try we need not have worried he tried everything and gave it all thumbs up from chicken satay, beef and green pepper, schezwan chicken, shredded lamb even some of his mums seafood...dish. Yes it's a bit more expensive than some places but personally worth the money for a good meal all our plates were clearedMore
Whenever we go out for dinner I always come to the Amber Regent. It’s by far the best in glasgow. Every celebration we have in the family is celebrated at the Amber. All the staff is lovely and the food is just incredible. Would highly...recommend , you won’t be disappointed.More
The food was only reasonable and extremely overpriced..A simple beef curry was very bland and portion was very small.I had to go for more food afterwards. My partner ordered a beef dish but was presented with a chicken version....she doesn't eat chicken.Would never return. The prices were...absolutely disgraceful for the food we were presented with.We certainly won't be returning.More
Ordered a take away and my own fault as probably the most expensive take away I've ever had as it's pretty much the same as the prices in the restaurant. The food was really bland. The chicken is overcooked and in cubes which I think...they buy in rather than fresh. All in it was really poor. I hear it's closing and I'm not surprised.More
I was going to visit this place next week but I remembered how awful my daughter's birthday dinner was last year. Forgot to review this place at the time. Anyway, five of us attended one Tuesday night, I think we had one and a half...hours to eat up and get out basically. Issues with the rice... one portion missing and no noodles. Starters and main meals were just okay but my wife was given spongey, tastless cubes of chicken. She said it was absolutely awful. Seems to be a thing in Chinese restaurants, giving out this horrible chicken, that's why I never get chicken. Also my daughter's was supposed to get fillet steal strips and green peppers. Definitely wasn't fillet steak. I agree with all the negative reviews on here, it IS OVERPRICED AND THE FOOD IS AT BEST AVERAGE. WE WON'T BE GOING BACK HERE... EVER.More
