Booked on a deal - seafood platter and glass of wine each. As usual we added a starter each to our deal bread and oil followed by Cullen Skink , delicious and very filling. The seafood platter was quality with shellfish and 3 different fish types. We left very satisfied sorry forget to mention the friendly staff and owner. If... More

Unnassumingly hidden away, this place is a gem. We visited with friends for a late lunch and we were immediately greeted by staff and (I assume) the friendly owner. The atmosphere was casual and friendly, though sufficiently formal for a "nice" meal experience. The waiter was very friendly and helpful and answered several unusual questions from our party efficiently. First... More

Unplanned visit and dropped in. Taken to a table quite quickly by very friendly staff. Ordered the meal and the waitress suggested that we had ordered too much - best and most honest advice. Meal was at a nice leisurely pace. The mussels for starter were probably the best I have ever eaten. Perfectly cooked on a lovely sauce. The... More

We went with family for a birthday dinner and chose The Flavours of Scotland set menu at £29.95, it was a Friday night and the place was full and no wonder, each course was beautifully presented and top quality. The birthday 'girl' was sung to be several of the staff whilst blowing out a candle on her sweet all provided... More

This is an excellent Scottish themed restaurant. The fish is outstanding as are the meat dishes. Always something surprising on the menu.

Had an excellent meal, really great value. Staff were chatty and friendly, would definitely go back. Only thing not bringing it to 5 rating is service was a little slow. Had to ask them to take our order and for replacement drinks. I know you don't want to be hurried but also don't want long waits. Had the Coley and... More

We hadn't booked anywhere in the Merchant City - big mistake on an end of month Saturday! After a dozen or so knock backs, the City Merchant said if we waited 15mins we could get a table - great service. Menu and wine list good, prices reasonable and the food was excellent. Typical Glasgow service - fast, friendly, knowledgeable and... More

I arrived at this restaurant and showed my voucher in return with the most disgusted attitude from the owner, at the door before I was showed to the seats with my son. I have tired to ignore their unwelcome attitude by making the most of the night with a my teenage son. Both of our seafood platter were a genuine... More

After having read you review I will make the following points. Firstly the City Merchant is renowned for its customer service and under no circumstances would ANY member of staff or management never mind any of the owners make anybody entering our premises feel unwelcome ( look at all past reviews) . If you have it in your head that... More

We were welcomed in a very friendly manner by a gentleman as soon as we entered the restaurant..our coats were taken and we were shown our table. Right away we felt relaxed. Our waiter was first class and took time to go through the menu with us. The food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for our waiter.... More

Had a meal here on Saturday night. They clearly used quality products which were well cooked. The venison was very nice although the desert of home made brownie a little heavy. I thought it was a bit much charging for bread when buying for mains at £25 each.
