I have been a regular customer at La Vita for over 15 years. First in their Bishopbriggs restaurant and then George Square. I have celebrated birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and other events over the years at this restaurant. All of those times I received 5 star...service. Until my recent visit to celebrate my friends wedding.
The problems began when we were seated and I first had to wait (top floor) at the stairs for 5 minutes before getting to the table. I requested a table for 4 adults and a high chair one week in advance. Our table was right next to the toilet and backed directly to a ledge that had the cleaning supplies, napkins and things like mops/dust pans. It looked so disgusting and the table was squeezed into a small corner that no one could actually sit at and be comfortable. I requested another table and as my husband was parking the car I thought that it was fine. I noticed during this wait that the staff seemed very stressed and appeared to be under staffed.
After another 10/15 minutes we got the table but no one asked me if I wanted to order a drink and I waited another 15 minutes before this happened. We were given the menus and then when I ordered the starter, I was ready to say to the server what the main options were and he just walked off. Some of the servers were generally nice (such as the female server who was so friendly with my baby) and friendly but one in particular (male, wearing shirt and tie) was quite rude and I was shocked as I have never experienced this before here. When we ordered our mains from a different server, I said I wanted peppers and another topping as extra on the pizza. All of the food came and a dish was seated next to our friends that I assumed they ordered.
When we went to clear the table, the server said to me that I ordered this and I was generally shocked. I told him that no I asked for this to be a pizza topping and they were tying to charge us probably another £10 or so for a dish that we never asked for. He was segueing with me that I did order this and then he said he would take it off like he was doing me a favour when he made a mistake. He was friendly and nice apart from this incident. The desserts also took over 20 minutes to arrive although our third server by this point did apologise for them being late.
Overall, I felt like we were an inconvenience to the waiting staff. The food as usual was great but, the experience spoiled as even our friends who dined here for the first time also mentioned the appalling service. Normally the servers would ask ‘how is your meal’ but instead no one ever asked and we would wait ages to just see someone to order another drink or get our food. The whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and makes me want to try other restaurants for special occasions that are to important to have ruined. I came here in September 2021 when I was pregnant and the manager then went above and beyond for us. I really do hope that La Vita can return to this level of service as it’s such a shame for their reputation to be be tarnished. Perhaps the staff are burned out and need more support but no excuse for rude service.More
Went in because of the look and sound of the menu.
Welcome was great.
Seating was with a great view of George's Square.
Choice of 2 menus gave lots of options.
All of this was ruined by ok Lasagne but the Mussels were putrid smelling...so can't understand how a chef could serve them.
The taste of the Mussels after a single test taste proved the Mussels were off.
We alerted the waitress who actually did not bring them initially and she right away agreed the smell should have been a give away!!
We accepted an alternative meal Not the Mussels a Mushroom pasta..and it was also only ok for flavour.
Would not return after we thanked and tipped the waitress who really looked after us.
Once nearly food poisoned twice shy!!More
I'm surprised about the negative reviews which I read after we'd visited the restaurant. Our journey started in Frankfurt am Main - landed in Edinburgh - our second stop was Glasgow - first port of call was the HRC to purchase an original t-shirt with...the name Glasgow on it - then of course ' find a place for a bite to eat ' bye chance we found La Vita - the Manageress was normal-friendly, we got a table for 4, ordered 2 x Mia Casa, 1 x Nonna pasta dishes and 1 x Pizza Hawaii - all were really delicious, good portions & well seasoned with cold draft Italian beer to accompany. We had an enjoyable evening - no complaints about the staff.More
If I could rate this worse that terrible I would!!
Like others, never got the chance to try the food as we were made to feel like dirt from the manageress. We arrived and asked if they had a table for 2 and did not...even receive a reply from the manageress but instead pulled a face and shook her head without even saying a word. We were absolutely disgusted in the customer service we experienced, and from other reviews this is obviously a recurring thing with them. I personally think the manageress needs to revisit what customer service is and actually provide it to paying customers. We ended up in another restaurant where we spent the money we would’ve spent at la vita and experienced great customer service, quality food and a table within minutes, La Vita should take notes!More
We never got to actually try the food as we walked out after being treated like dirt from the moment we came in.
We were visiting Glasgow and looking for a quick Italian dinner before a show. Popped into this restaurant and asked for a...table for two. The lady at the front didn't even make an eye contact nor said hello, she stared out of the window straight past us and without moving told her colleague "table for 2, table 6". Without saying hello or even acknowledging us he lead us upstairs, however when we got to the table the waiter turned to us looking annoyed and said "it isn't even ready, you'll have to wait" and started clearing the table. We were left standing in the walkway for a moment blocking access to kitchen and several waiters complained we were in their way. As we shuffled looking for somewhere to move in a busy restaurant with tables packed quite tightly, the waiter angrily pointed back to the stairs and told us "Go stand there and wait". By that point we were put off enough and decided to go dine elsewhere. I don't think I've ever encountered such rude staff anywhere else. Not only that made us feel unwelcome but it put a damper on the mood, too. As we were leaving the restaurant within five minutes of coming in, the lady at the door didn't acknowledge us either. The most unwelcoming place in Glasgow, that's for sure.More
This restaurant has the rudest Manageress I have ever come across. Night started poorly. We were sat at a table for 4 in what was an over crowded restaurant. We were about to order drinks when we were asked to move tables as they needed...to split our table for 2 pairs. We moved only to see another table of 4 seated where we had been. Main issue of the night was services, especially drinks. Took over 20 mins to deliver our first round of drinks. It became apparent that other tables were having the same issue. We had the same issue for the second round of drinks. Food itself was good. There was less of a service issue there. Overall issue appeared to be that they had crammed in far too many tables and had insufficient staff to cope. There was very little space between different table groups. Our server, a young girl named Rachael was very good but badly let down by her floor Manageress. At one point, in front of all the tables, she shouted inappropriately at Rachael which prompted a lady from another table to confront her rudeness. I have never witnessed such behaviour from a Manger before. She refused to give anyone her name and set a very poor example to her staff and tone to the restaurant. Certainly won’t be back any time soon to experience that again. There are plenty of other good Italian Restaurants in Glasgow to pick from which are not part of the La Vita chain.More
