Looked promising. Great little neighborhood restaurant, seemed to be family run. Appetizer was phenomenal but the main courses were so bland they were inedible. We left disappointed.

Booked a couple of weeks before our visit and received a quick email reply from Alfie the owner confirming things. Just a short walk from the nearby Inverness riverside Premier Inn and a warm welcome from the staff who took our coats. Table for 2...in a almost full small restaurant, it has a cosy feeling and not overcrowded, very attentive staff and great 70's/80's background music, not too loud. Large selection of mostly seafood dishes and eventually went with a selection of seafood orientated ones which were all perfectly cooked and artistically presented, accompanied by a crisp white wine that complemented the food perfectly. The mussels were great and the hake was cooked to perfection, overall we were really happy with the entire experience. Whist not the cheapest meal in town we felt it was very good value for money, if your looking for something special and was made all the better by the attentive staff and a chat with chef/patron Alfie before we left. The River House thoroughly deserves it's number 1 position of Inverness restaurants, a treat for the senses.More

We were very lucky to have booked a table in the afternoon on the day we visited, as my partner wanted to go to a Fish restaurant. I myself am not a lover of fish but really enjoyed an amazing selection of Oysters served in...3 different ways, followed by a beautiful Cod dish. The restaurant itself is very intimate (so would highly recommend booking as early as possible) and the service was very personable: Nicola looked after us, recommended wines and made us feel very special. We had the pleasure of bumping into her again the following evening and she greeted us like old friends - it is meeting people like Nicola that make a dining experience extra special.More

Best Cod dish I’ve had! This was a very last minute booking and they managed to squeeze us in! We are eternally grateful. The whole team are wonderful especially the lady serving on Friday evening (02/02/24). We had oysters and Champagne… the works ! We...even managed to squeeze in a little wine tasting to determine our favourite wine for the evening. It’s not cheap, but a very good restaurant for special occasions!More

Wonderful restaurant, especially good for fish and seafood. Service is great but still has real character. Food never disappoints and there's an excellent selection of wines and beers. The owner is a superb chef and host and clearly looks after his staff too.

Probably one of our favorite meals on our trip through Scotland and England in October. Restaurant is a beautiful little jewel box of a setting! Service was attentive, helpful and spot on for suggestions. Found out later that our server was the chef/owner…he was a...delight! Started with a variety of raw and then cooked oysters, all delicious. Washed them down with an apple cider spritz. Then moved on to the Cullen skink, which was outstanding. I could eat this every day. For mains, my husband had the seafood linguine and I had the mussels with seaweed fries. We could not have been happier. A beautiful meal in a wonderful setting. Seriously recommend when in Inverness. Call ahead to reserve.More

Super food, super service and lovely cosy atmosphere. If you’re looking for traditional seafood with a modern twist, then this is the place for you. It isn’t the cheapest but is still excellent value all round. Can’t recommend it highly enough!

Another great meal in the best restaurant in the area- definitely one of the best in the Highlands and as good as anywhere in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Lovely atmosphere- created by talented chef Alfie and team. Always a warm welcome and we could see how...well other guests were treated too. As for the food….! Lovely as usual- fab oysters, great fish dishes. Be back in the spring!More

Starters - Cullen skink and oysters amazing! Mains very disappointing! Hake was beautiful however the ensemble underneath was over seasoned and the pepper was overwhelming the delicate fish! Halibut was beautiful however the sauce with half cooked apple brought nothing to the dish and the...crispy not crispy strips on top were awful. We asked for dessert however by the time the owner remembered we wanted dessert we had gone past it ……., coats we’re literally thrown at us will not be returning far better restaurants in Inverness that deserves our hard earned cash!!!!More

We were going to be in Inverness for 3 nights, and looked for a restaurant to celebrate my sisters birthday. She wanted great seafood, and River House seemed to be the place to go. We were 7 adults, and everyone had a beautifully prepared &...tasty meal. The oysters were great, the fish stew, halibut & seabass all delicious, with plating done very well. It is a small restaurant, with a cozy, very nice atmosphere. The service was top notch. Alfie who is the chef proprietor even came outside as our table was going to be a few minutes wait, to apologize. No need for it, it was worth the wait. He is very hands on, and running around doing everything in the restaurant including taking some pictures with us, and presenting my sister with her cheesecake and sizzler. It was a great evening. Do not hesitate to make reservations.More
