I treated myself to a meal here Friday 7 January on a flying visit to Inverness. Played safe with moules mariniere as main course which was as tasty as I hoped it would be and left left me wishing I could have spent more time...in the city to explore their menu further. As above service and ambience all good (nice to see a packed restaurant so soon after the festive season) but what destroyed the ambience was around 9pm sitting and watching while staff removed bags of (food?) waste from the kitchen to the street walking right through the dining area while customers were still eating!! I mentioned this to my server and the chef came to my table to explain that there was only a single entrance/exit point to the premises, food waste inevitably builds up in the small kitchen area and "that's the way we've been doing it for 20 years". I accept all that but there has to be another solution because you simply cannot take bags of waste past diners tables while they're still eating and drinking. You simply cannot - imagine if you went to the theatre to see a play and 15 minutes before the end the cleaners came onto the stage and started sweeping up. How would you react?More

Having visited several times over the years and raved about this restaurant, always claiming it to be in my top 3 of favourites locally, if asked, this was a very disappointing meal. Everything was cooked and presented well but it was just bland and tasteless....In a tiny, crowded restaurant with a visibly very busy chef it seemed awkward to complain so we paid and left but I wouldn't be that excited about returning. I had crab thermidor, halibut on winter veg with crispy gnocchi and pavlova. Crab was OK, I realise that crab is a very delicate flavour. My main issue was with the halibut, it arrived looking a little anaemic and unappetising and despite adding salt it was completely bland to the point that I said to my husband that if I couldn't clearly taste the lemon soft drink I had I would be concerned that I might have covid. Pavlova was OK, I've had it before with pears and caramel sauce and it was lovely, this one was with caramelised banana and Baileys cream. I think there were three tiny slivers of banana, almost unnoticeable so it was predominantly just meringue and cream, personally I'd take my own fruit-laden pavlova. All in all a very disappointing anniversary dinner in what used to be a restaurant we were confident of loving.More

Well we didn’t walk but drove! We came in October and returned for a second fantastic evening. The food was amazing, cod and stuffing was delicious all courses piping hot. My husband had the bread and butter pudding which he said was one of the...best puddings he’s ever had and tasted of Christmas. Staff were great and attentive but not intrusive. Fantastic food, drink, ambience and company. Love it Happy Christmas to you all🎄More

Fantastic food, very good fish stew. Very good customer service. The chef was asking all the tables how was the food one by one. I ate the best bread and butter pudding that I had in my life.

Took my daughters for a “gourmet fish meal” following the “outstanding” reviews. Arrived at 8:26pm for an 8:30pm reservation & were met by a hostile waitress who only asked “name” on arrival! “Your table’s not ready you’ll need to wait outside” It was hailstorm weather...outside & freezing! No to be put off we returned at 8:32pm on the dot to be shown to to our cramped table. The waitress remained unfriendly & was indifferent to everyone she served in the restaurant. Waiter was friendly enough however. I thought the food would compensate for front of house……sadly we were disappointed with the blandness & frankly overpriced food. Shop bought linguine, tasteless overcooked Hake, starters could have come from Brakes. Chef de patron did walk around but by that time & experience I couldn’t be bothered trying to engage with him with my dissatisfaction. Wont be returning, top tip don’t always read just the good reviews! This isn’t a common problem with this restaurant apparently.More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Good or bad, each is appreciated. Firstly, the food. Here at RH we do like to keep things simple - preferring to allow the natural flavours of the beautifully fresh seafood to be the star...More

Where to start? As an Infection prevention and control nurse, eating in an open kitchen restaurant says something about the place. The sanitary processes during the food preparation was excellent and very safe for the customers re: COVID-19. All the staff were wearing the mask,...the tables had social distance and hand gel on entry and on every table. The food… oh my god, the food!!! We ordered the fish stew and it was to die for. I am Spanish and love my fish. The chef knew how to cook the fish. Very fresh and the flavours were so good. And here comes the desert… homemade bread and butter pudding with clotted cream. It was so good. We had fantastic food in The Kitchen Restaurant, The mustard seed and Rocpool but River House restaurant has been the best by far. Love the fact, the chef took his time to come twice to our table to ask if everything was ok. And not only to our table, he went to every single table. If you are visiting the lovely Highlands and Inverness, book a table here because it is a must.More

We enjoyed this tiny, open kitchen restaurant. It’s the kind of place you walk into and know immediately it’s going to be a good night. The Scottish oysters with “kick ass” dip a must. Scottish sensibility meets a hint of Italian cooking awaits you here....The dessert menu is a winner as well. We couldn’t have asked for a better meal and overall experience. The staff worked as a team and know what they’re doing. We ended up Having an enjoyable chat with our neighbors who are locals. If you’re planning a trip to Inverness book a table here.More

Booked a large group after a meeting and the venue were most accommodating for the group! Unfortunately 2 people couldn't attend however this wasn't a problem for them. Service was fantastic. The staff were busy BUT everything was served perfectly! The food, just unreal! Lovely...dishes and presentation wise was just perfect. Somewhere I will definitely be visiting again! Drinks wise, great selection of wines. Just cant fault the whole place! My only criticism, cheese board. Just not big enough, if they're offering such good cheeses an industrial scale of cheese needs to be offered. But in all seriousness, YOU MUST pay this place a visit!More

Certainly one of the best restaurants in the UK. All fresh ingredients. Scallops starter was excellent. Halibut was beautifully cooked and well presented.
