Asked two Fort William people independently for dinner recommendations: Grog & Gruel given as first choice without hesitation. Nine of us arrived at the upstairs restaurant (Thursday), four children & five adults. We had a great meal with a mixture of kids meals, vegetarian and meat dishes all tasting great. Some local ales, pilsners on offer too. Second night (Friday)... More

Three of us ate here one wet afternoon. There is a good menu to choose from and everyone enjoyed their meal. There was a good choice of Scottish real ales. The one we tried was in good condition and served at the right temperature. The pub has a good atmosphere even on a quiet afternoon.

Soup (sweet potato & coconut) really nice, rest so so. Decent selection of beers & whiskies though. Decor a little dates now...

Went in several times. On evening locals just came in with their instruments and just played most of the evening. Friendly staff good selection of ales and whiskeys.

Visited in evening with kids and it was a good job we booked as it was packed upstairs in restaurants. Usual range of kids options but curly hogs tail fries went down a treat. Tasty range of Mexican inspired mains with chilli served in a crispy tortilla basket a real hit and original too.

Well, after being told this was the ale pub of the town we were looking forward to a few, but were disappointed when we got there to find only 1 ale 😱, there were more pumps, maybe just unlucky, expected better with the ales although the 1 ale was okay, the Crofter was better for the ales

Disappointing lunch. Food lacked flavor and substance. Had a BLT, tiny bits of bacon, Tiny chopped tomatoes (could count them!) it was all bread no BLT!

Needed lunch and a quick pint on a cold day so jumped into the first pub we came to - nice surprise ! The Grog Dog mains were excellent but the custard on the bread and butter pudding was to die for !!! Hubby enjoyed the Movember ale too btw. Cheery staff, service was quick considering it was freshly cooked... More

We arrived as a family and entered the Restaurant section, we were met with a nice warm welcome from friendly staff. The menu had a wide selection at a reasonable price. The restaurant was spotless and the food was delicious! We will be back.
