Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Been going to CJ’s for approx 10 years, but enough is enough. This use to be one of the best chippies in Elgin by far, but whether its under different management or it’s just a lack of effort, it’s totally gone downhill. Our last 2...fish suppers were dry and fish was very thin. You use to get quick a plump flaky haddock, but clearly not anymore. The batter was overcooked, it use to have a nice crunchy, moist texture, but this was more like a deep fried brandy basket. And as for the chips. Boke. Nothing fresh about them. Not be going back. Id rather spend another £5-10 for something more upmarket, knowing that I wont have that feeling of just being robbed. Sorry CJ’s but this is on you. And not as much as a smile or a thankyou when you leave.More

I had a problem free experience with CJs. My telephone call to place order was promptly answered. My order was ready for me at the agreed collection time and most importantly our party of four thoroughly enjoyed our takeaway..

Popped in for a fish supper. Didn’t have to wait too long. The food tasted great and was a good sized portion.

They apparently closes in around 40 minutes. This is a lie. Checked in advance. Supposed to close at 8. Arrived at 7. Snapped at by person behind counter that they were closed. Standing beside the lit up counter full of fish mind you. Being advised...they were closed would have been enough but to carry on with a lecture on how their shutter was closed over was completely unnecessary. Embarrassment of customer service. What a welcome to Elgin. PatheticMore

Far too slow. Slower than a week in the jail. The place was'nt even that busy yet they took over 45 mins and counting to make a fish supper. Not good enough.

After reading a shocking review from April it seems that our 3 girls are back in motion again. You go in (with mask), place an order and stand outside observing social distancing while the girls call your name when your order is ready - very...well organised. The food is fresh, delicious but a tad overdone with the batter, which is probably how the customers like it. Great for outdoor types who are hungry and don't care about calories.More

Absolute shambles of a place. Can not speak lowly enough about this place. No matter what i say or how bad this review is it does not do this place justice for how poor it is. The girls in here dont have a clue what...they are doing. You walk in and order food and she just stands and stares at you with a big dopey blank look on her face. She Said that will be 20-30 mins so stood around for ages and had no confidence the order was actually taken. Nothing was written down. There are 3 women running round with their heads on fire arguing with eachother about who is doing what and what order is next. No management.. no organisation .. the food is bang average and over priced. It takes far too long from ordering to getting hands on your food.. about 45-60 minutes. The place could really do with some new staff who know how to cope and dont panic and argue with eachother. Just take an order.. write it down .. make the food .. take payment.. issue the food. Its really Not hard. Not professional at all with customers stood there and you can see and hear them running round saying “what did he just order” “i dont know whats going on” “ive got orders everywhere” The place is an absolute shambles. In all my life i have never seen food service this poor. Avoid at all costs.More

We used to be regulars but in the past 18 months the quality seems to have dropped. It's not bad , just not as good as it used to be. We keep going back hoping it improves and sometimes we see a glimpse of the...glory days. As I said I still frequent but know it's lost its edge.More

Cj's without a doubt do the best fish and chips in Elgin. Large portions of fish which were cooked to perfection. Chips and mushy peas tasty. A great takeaway.

Decided to take the family to get a chippy and we had a very simple order as there were only 3 of us but that didn’t stop them from taking forever to make our order. We waited for about 45 minutes for it and other...people were getting their orders even ones who ordered after we did. Tried to complain but just got some right dirty looks from the staff. Avoid unless you can wait until Christmas to get some chips.More

The chippie was recommended to us as a stopping point on the way to Aberdeen. What a find! Fantastic fish and chips. Freshly cooked and huge portions.very reasonable and very clean. Its popularity is obvious by how busy it is. Just beside the ruins of...the cathedral and a nice walkway. Closed on a Monday.More

I cant fault the food, the large fish supper is truly large and very tasty but the waiting time has put me off going in several times. It appears they are trying to cook home deliveries at the same time as cooking orders for the...people in the take-away. They need to find a way to cut the waiting time. However on the last 2 occasions Ive been in I got my food faster than usual so maybe things are changing or maybe I just got lucky.More
