We were actually out for a stroll in the sun heading to M&S to grab something for dinner when we saw Cafe Tabou and the other restaurants in St Johns were open for business again. As they had plenty of seating outside and the sun was shining we decided to treat ourselves to an impromptu late lunch/early dinner. We were greeted and seated by a charming waiter and given menus. We ordered a bottle of wine which appeared very quickly and offered a taste to see if it was to our liking. Off to a great start as the wine was perfectly chilled and delicious! Complimentary fresh baked bread and rich, creamy butter was brought to the table (nice touch) We both ordered from the set menu, which we thought was very reasonably priced, I think it was somewhere under or around £20 for 2 courses. When the food arrived it did not disappoint and we both thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful of our own and each other’s dishes, I ordered the beef medallions which came with a turmeric or curry flavoured butter (divine) and Fitz had a breaded Schnitzel. Everything was cooked, seasoned and presented perfectly, this is one knowledgable and experienced chef! The waiter checked on us at exactly the right time to make sure we were happy with our meal. We were offered dessert and were enjoying ourselves so much we decided to stay a while longer so ordered the cheeseboard upgrade for 2 and a cheeky glass of red wine each to compliment. Overall it was a fantastic experience - service, food, wine all executed perfectly in a lovely atmosphere. Great to be able to eat out again and feel almost ‘normal’ and the warm sunshine made it feel like being abroad! We were so impressed we’ve booked a table for 6 for a family birthday celebration at the end of the month and really looking forward to another delicious taste of Cafe Tabou’s menu and excellent service. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon :)

Once again, we loved the food, atmosphere, efficiency and friendliness of the staff. When booking, I informed them that one of our party was vegan and they couldn't have been more helpful, offering a very good selection of courses, each of which was very much enjoyed and appreciated by the recipient. The rest of the party also enjoyed their dish and it had been very difficult to decide what to choose because each dish sounded equally delicious and turned out to be so. As we were being treated that day, and my husband and I still have our Christmas gift voucher and so will be returning soon.

I visited recently with my husband for my birthday. The food was absolutely delicious as was their cocktail of the day. It was very busy and tables are very close together but that just adds to the atmosphere. We had the pre theatre menu was is exceptional value, I wouldn't hesitate recommending for a casual lunch or a special evening meal. Thank you for a great night.

Situated in the eating quarter of Perth with out door seating available. Modern French restaurant serving first class local produce with classic French dishes amongst menu (snails etc). My wife had sea bream starter and I had the confit chicken , followed by hake and then strawberry Eaton mess. Dishes were nicely presented and tasted superb and on a set menu of 3 courses for £25 was great value for money. A must for fine diners, highly recommended

Went to celebrate here with my bf. Had a shared steak, served beautifully on a hot stone with gorgeously tasty vegetable sides. The steak itself was mouthwateringly tender and cooked just as we'd asked. The butter sauce I had with it was perfect. Really really really enjoyed that meal and can't wait to go again. (My mouth is literally watering at the thought). Very nice, quiet place, as well, with friendly staff.

Decided to give Cafe Tabou a try for a change of scenery from our usual places. We were seated promptly at a cosy table on the pavement underneath the heater. Friendly service from the waiter who advised which wines to pair with the food. My wife had the monkfish which she said was delicious and I had a rare ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly. I had no room for dessert but I managed to have a taste of my wife’s chocolate fondant which was absolutely amazing. Three rounds of drinks, two mains and a dessert for £100 represented great value for money in my opinion. Great food, great staff. We’ll definitely be back.

Yet another wonderful midweek dinner in Café Tabou. Great choice of freshly cooked food available, in our case Lamb from the ‘Specials Board’ and Beef Medallions from the main Menu, accompanied by a very reasonable bottle of Malbec, nice recommendation André! I confess to really enjoying the ‘quieter atmosphere’ that has been enforced on Café Tabou, by the Covid-19 restrictions, but that’s just me and probably a bit selfish, but I believe in honest reviews. Service Staff and Chef all outstanding and a particular thanks to André for a lovely welcome and great service, it was very much appreciated by my wife and I. Thank you and we’ll see you all again soon!

Booked in here (me, my wife and her sister) for a Saturday lunch after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. Very glad we did. Although our booking was quite late (1.45) the restaurant was busy and continued to be so throughout the time we were there, so it's obviously very popular. This made for a decent atmosphere. Despite the busyness, service from the staff was speedy, polite and professional and I don't think could have been any better. We stuck to the fixed price menu, but there were interesting looking a la carte options too. But the fixed price menu, as well as being incredible value, offers a decent choice of starters, main and desserts as well as a couple of more specials on a blackboard, so plenty to choose from. There was also a decent looking wine list, though sadly we were all driving so couldn't have any wine. I had the grilled mackerel from the specials as a starter and it was very good. I followed with Coq au Vin, which came in its own Le Creuset casserole dish along with a plate containing a slab of mash. The casserole dish was great as it meant that the food remained hot and the plate was also hot - cold food in restaurants is a real bugbear of mine. If I'm being hypercritical I though the sauce could have had a bit more depth and been a bit less salty, but it would be churlish to be too critical, especially at these prices. I finished with the pear frangipane tart which was lovely too. Both my companions enjoyed their respective dishes too. I would say on this experience the Cafe Tabou is more country bistro than fine dining, but saying that, presentation was on point and I suspect the a la carte offerings would be more at the fine dining end of the scale. But nothing wrong with country bistro, especially at these bargain prices. It was also good to see things like rabbit on the menu, which you seldom see in the UK. Overall I would say this was an excellent experience with food and service well beyond expectations at this price level. Will most certainly return.

Cafe Tabou is hands down the best restaurant in Perth. I have been going to Tabou for years and have never once had anything other than exceptional service. Add that with never having anything but an outstanding meal and you have your reason to go to Tabou! The ambience is relaxed, the menu changes just enough to make it interesting each time you visit and the dishes of the day always have good options. My partner and I will occasionally go to other restaurants in Perth to try and mix things up, every single time we come out and say to each other "That was half as good as Tabou and the same price" We should really learn and stop going anywhere else! Prices are very good for the quality. My ONLY criticism ( but just because I loved it! ) was the breakfasts I used to get a while ago - Savoury Black pudding crepes which were out of this world - are no longer available. Get yourself to Tabou - Promise you will not be disappointed!

We booked a table for our Birthday dinner. Starters were nice, however, the main course took a very long time to land on the table, The venison was inequality cooked, some were overdone and one was rare and much tastier. Le lemon tart was a disaster. The crepe Suzette was served with Ice cream which is a fault. Check the recipe it is a classic. Respect of the basics would be good or change the name. French bistro, only one waiter speaks french.

We are a couple in our late 60's ' , well travelled so were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The welcome was warm and friendly, the atmosphere cosy, inviting.and unpretentious Food was delicious and wines affordable, We both had starters ... I had duck confit salad, my dining companion had the seafood bisque ... both delicious. We both had the filet medallions to follow .... cooked to perfection. I spent 10 years in Paris and must say it compares with any meal I had there. Thanks again for a wonderful meal

My wife and I recently stayed in Perth for two nights. During this visit we dined at Cafe Tabou on both nights and we’re very glad we did. On the ‘first night we dined from the set menu which is excellent value but that apart the food was delicious. On the second night we chose from the a la carté menu. My wife had the goats cheese salad for a main and profiteroles for her sweet. She said they were both sensational! I had the croup d’agneau ( lamb dish), for my main and it was delicious. I finished my meal with a bit of theatre in the shape of crepe suzette. The food was absolutely excellent but our meals were made even better by the waiting staff. They were run off their feet but carried out their duties with efficiency, and a smile on their face. As you can probably guess, I highly recommend this establishment.

What a fabulous experience. Ate outside (able to have a glass of wine under current restriction) under powerful heaters. Set menu options were superb, and would thoroughly recommend the Medaillons de beouf and the Octopus. Oh, and the Lamb Ragu was the best surprise - had to ask for the recipe Service and attention to detail made it a very enjoyable dining experience

This restaurant serves beautifully cooked French cuisine. It has a fixed price menu of 2 courses or a fixed price 3 course meal as well as a la carte . It was great to get out eating again after the restaurants opened after lockdown. I would highly recommend here.

I could take the easy option here and just say “fantastic” or “superb” but that would be doing the restaurant and staff a massive disservice. This is a proper restaurant with quality chefs and waiting staff, everything is prepared from scratch with quality ingredients served efficiently and professionally by the waiters who are knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. My wife is gluten free and there were plenty of options even down to the warm bread roll served with the soup. My only regret is we have only just discovered this place and now feel I’ve missed out on previous visits to Perth. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
