Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First visit since its upgrade and pleasantly surprised. Lovely decor but appears to have less tables. Disappointed that with nice upgrade the toilets are the same and remain baltic. Now order and pay at the till. The food remains delicious with a trimmed menu. Remains...a fab stop off on the A9More

Great welcome as we came through the door by young lad who was busy but took time to advise it is now ‘order at the counter’. Food consistently a good standard. Top up of tea a bonus. Swift service

Service and food always great.they have refurbished the cafe and now you have to order and pay at the counter, which is a change.

A blast from the past. Used to stop here in the late 80s every Scotland home game. Had the usual mixed grill which set us up for Hampden and the journey home. Always threatened to show the kids this place and it’s obviously changed over...the years but first thing on the menu is mixed grill!! Place is clean and staff are friendly and the service quick. Varied menu and great for a wee pit stop on route north or south. Food is decent and cafe style for quick turn around. All in all it’s perfect for a quick stop before commencing your journey.More

Bitterly disappointing. They did a nice job on the refit. It’s clean, spacious and has enormous potential. However… the food is dreadful & the staff are not at all welcoming. One actually looked terrified of his own shadow. No hello on arrival, just ‘pick a...table and order at the counter’. The menu is very basic and over priced. The quality of the food is so poor, we all left half of our meals. Seriously, how can a diner get chips so wrong!! The tea was good & coffee ok but had we not paid on ordering there’s no way we would have paid full price. It’s a huge shame as it’s really convenient for us but it’s not a patch on what it used to be - we’ll never go again. Nae Limits is a minute down the road and is in a league of its own-just wish it was open year round.More

The same ever. Stopped here for lunch had to wait a few minutes as was busy. When i got a table had a look at the menu and chose Fish and Chips which was very good. It was around the £10 mark. Can't remember exactly.

This used to be a very busy truck stop , come family cafe! Always wondered whether you could get a table or not! Was always packed, all the truck drivers and people going about their daily business in for food of some description! We’ve certainly...eaten here regularly for the past 20 years! So they closed it and turned into an American themed diner! Gone is the table service with cheery servers who knew their business, gone are about 4/5 large tables that could seat 6, in come the uncomfortable booths! You’ve now got to order your food at the till and pay for it! Gone are the tips that I’m sure were good? Who would tip before receiving your food! Prices have shot up, £4 for two mugs of tea?? Menu is uninspiring! Yes it needed a facelift, but I think they’ve shot themselves in the foot! Even the staff look like they don’t want to there! We wont return………………………….More

We had quick lunch on our trip from Edinburgh to Inverness. The food is good (typical motor grill menu, I suppose). The staff is very friendly.

Once again, a happy experience. Good idea freshly cooked to order. A clean well run establishment with attentive staff. A perfect stop on your way North or South on the A9. Without the stress of going into Pitlochry nearby. Highly recommended. 😁

We stopped for a breakfast while on our 220 mile trip. We looked for services and very nearly missed this place as is next to the petrol station. So glad we didn’t drive past- was delicious breakfast with friendly staff. Would definitely come back.

I moved to the Highlands 45 years ago and Ballinluig has been a regular stop when travelling on A9. It was always friendly, very busy, you recognised the welcoming staff and you were sure to bump into someone you know from Inverness or roundabouts. This...is the second time I have visited since the renovation. Good points: Clean and tidy restaurant Black pudding rolls still great! No longer need to wait for a table as it is far from busy. Less good points: (New) staff not very happy, don’t look like they want to be there Choice much reduced Prices a lot more expensive Toilets still very poor Despite the new machines, coffee not great. A shame, but I think that our longstanding relationship with Ballinluig is fast coming to an end…More
