Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

went in here for a mid morning stop on shopping trip. Waiter took order, then another came to see if we needed to order. Order was 2 coffees and 1 carrot cake. 1 coffee came 1st then the other(gap between) , no sign of cake. Asked waiter about it, it came along about 5/10 mins later, obviously from the hotel kitchen next door but all one company. Very nice when it did come, large portion with lovely fondant icing on top, plus a large strawberry and a small pot of cream. My partner and I shared it as it was too big just for me. Reasonable prices and good menu but service a bit haphazard. O.k. if you're not in a hurry. Seems to be popular with youngsters later in the day & night.

I've recently struggled to find any restaurants open in Ayr on Mondays and Tuesdays, which may be the reason The Meridian was rammed with people at lunchtime, though in fairness it's always been incredibly popular and for good reason. Food and service was great . A bottle of coke was an eye-watering £3.40 but with hospitality struggling for the last two years I won't begrudge them that. We had pizza and a curry. Both excellent. Will definitely recommend and be back. Photos to follow.

Just been here for blue Monday treat to console ourselves at Liz Mistrusst getting in as P.M.. Had King Prawn Tempura x 2 ( batter light crisp snd fluffy) followed by Pizza Pescatora with lovely bottle of house red then Pink Fizz cocktail ( loverleeeee) and churros. Food amazing. Staff first class. Warm, welcoming, value for money. So difficult to find reliable quality local places with such consistent attentive service, quality of food and without the rocketing price tags so common elsewhere. Thanks to Amy and all the crew at Meridian . Looking forward to our next visit already.p

Went to the Meridian for lunch as I knew they had a reasonably priced lunch menu (£7 for baked potatoes, sandwiches/wraps with side salads/nacho chips/coleslaw etc and the 8 plates for £8). Ordered the prawn Marie rose baked potato and the lunch serving of scampi and chips. The salad, coleslaw and actual baked potato were fine, but the prawns were absolutely disgusting. They were like the mini frozen prawns you get from the supermarket and it was as if they were defrosted in luke warm water - they truly turned mine and my partners stomach. The chips from the scampi were okay but the scampi was horrible, bland and dry. Peas were served in one of those little white pots you would put your tomato sauce in from McDonalds, there must have been only about 15 singular peas in the pot. A pint of beer was almost £6(!!!) and a small soft drink was £3.50. So we were around £24.50 for a lunch that was pretty poor. The only positive was the attentive staff.

Out for a bite to eat on a Saturday night. Food was alright but quality doesn’t come close to meriting their extortionate prices. The service was very slow. Asked for the bill from a member of staff only to be waiting 15-20 mins and for them to have forgotten. Toilets seem a little unhygienic and general interior could do with an uplift. Again the overall experience is not bad but the prices need to come down significantly to match this. Recently eaten in the vics and the vine in Prestwick and Vitos. Both of these venues seem to offer better quality hospitality at more affordable prices.

Booked for a family drink and dinner. On arrival we were seated promptly and was looking like a positive night. The starters we had were okay but nothing to brag about. The main was extremely disappointing. All the dishes looked like they can from a school kitchen and lacked taste and flavour. We opted not to have a pudding but continued with drinks. One positive aspect of the evening was the selection of drinks on offer and how cheap they were. Staff couldn’t have been nicer but such a pity the food is not up to scratch. Would return again for drinks but unfortunately I will not return for a meal.

Came here years ago and had a great pizza so returned again while visiting Ayr. Managed to get a seat in a booth without having booked which for a Saturday night was very lucky although arrived early. Had pizza again which was good although toppings could be a bit more generous. Note - a glass of wine is expensive at £9.50 a glass, our waiter Ellis offered us the meal deal of bottle of wine and a pizza for £25.00, decent value. Fast efficient waiting staff, Ellis was very friendly and helpful pointing out the deal. Good place for a quick pizza and some wine.

Group of 7 out for a birthday dinner, food took ages (which happens) offered more drinks for which we had to obviously pay for. Staff were attentive, other tables were getting food after 20 minutes, whilst we weren’t fed 1 hour 40 in. Fajitas came eventually £17.95!! Ridiculous pricing. Portion was small, chicken veg was over cooked and swimming in oil. Disappointing. Sisters tempura was meant to be a large portion got 4 pieces and was mooshy. Bill was also over charged by £9.30 after spending nearly £200 unimpressed offered no supplements and didn’t bother with deserts won’t be back.

Shown to our table at half past 1 in the afternoon, was told we would have a drinks order taken soon however waited 20 minutes still no sign of a drinks order being taken. Keeping in mind the restaurant wasn’t at all busy. Another table seated at this point and had both drinks and food order taken while we still waited to even be acknowledged. For the price of the food I expected a more efficient service. Understaffed and 0 people skills or organisation I won’t be back. Took my money elsewhere at the Tudor Inn down the street where service never fails.

I've been to the Meridian several times. Always a top quality cut of steak, in this case Prime Fillet, perfectly cooked to medium rare. I like the big windows, easy to see into, I like the sense of space inside with lots of natural, varnished wood decor. And thanks to the staff for their easy, friendly service.

First off, the service was great. However, very overpriced. A small breakfast is £9.95, and they’re not kidding when they say small!! 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 potato scone, 1 egg served with toast. We both added beans on. Two small breakfasts, two side orders of beans, two black coffees and 2 fresh orange juices came to £35.80! I’ve paid less at lunch time. The food was nice enough but not worth the money.

We had breakfast this morning and the coffee and bacon roll is always the best in Ayr. Cooked breakfast my husband had looked dry and good and not greasy at all. The only down side is the facilities - there has been a smell for many years but it is getting to the stage that it is unbearable. This wonderful eatery must to much better. The lovely people serving and tending to your every need are great and the ambiance in the room is always clean and lovely, it is a shame that the facilities are spoiling the visit.

Came here for lunch. Have been here 5/6 times. Once or twice it was good and this encourages met to give it another try after a while. However I wont eat here again. Given it enough chances. The chicken was dry. Curly fries seemed dry aswell. The cost of a soft drink was shocking. Something like £3.25. Also my toddler doesn't eat the same as older children might. Would be good to have a smaller child menu. I don't want to pay £7 for food for my 2 year old.

We are just home from having a good meal with good service at the Meridian, liked the atmosphere too. But 3 stars due to the price of lemonade which I had because of driving - £3.40 for a half pint!! That makes it more expensive for a pint than the beer my husband had. This is not the first complaint they have received about this but the owner refuses to budge - definitely having a laugh. We won't be going back.
