About
If you are planning a visit to the Isle of Lewis then a visit to Comunn Eachdraidh Nis is a must. The accredited museum is free to enter and it showcases our community's past way of life. The iconic Ronan Cross is our most important artefact - it is mounted on a bespoke stand in the centre of the museum. The centre has two exhibition areas with exhibitions usually changing twice each year. The café provides a welcome pit stop for tourists and is also popular with local people. The gift shop sells a wide range of locally made items along with a wide variety of our own publications and products. We are in the village of North Dell in Ness. Please allow 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach us from Stornoway. For Satnav, our postcode is HS2 0SN. We look forward to welcoming you soon! Open Saturdays during July and August, 11am-4pm.

Revisited here today, Delighted to say the standards are still very high, with all the current COVID rules very much in place. The atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxing. The home made soup is to die for, served piping hot,and panini was excellent. The service fro Donna,Alison and Gnes was so nice and friendly, if you are ever in the Ness area or looking for somewhere for a nice lunch or tea and delicious home baking, please make for this superb eatery. However they are operating winter hours so advisable to check before you go, another fabulous visit

Nice little venue in a must see area of the Isle of Lewis. Staff so friendly, interesting museum and a gift shop with a good variety and great prices for local crafts. The cafe is the Jewel in the crown; home made soup and home baking of the best quality i've ever had. Staff bustling as nice and busy but still so cheery and friendly. Building also spotless and cleanest toilets i've ever seen!

On a day when so many places were shut, the Comunn Cafe gives us a warm welcome where we enjoyed a delicious lunch, coffee and cakes in a fascinating venue which houses a history museum. The service was friendly and efficient although they were very busy - and no wonder; it would take a lot to better it. Despite the challenge of a short power cut, the staff kept powering through. To top it all, there were gluten-free options on the menu. All in all, a very memorable lunch.

Stopped here on the way back from Port of Ness. Arrived just after 12 and there were already quite a few tables filled - all spaced out social distance and very good Covid measures in place throughout. The lady who served us was lovely and friendly. Food was delicious - fairy cakes, choc cake, home made soup and our Coronation Chicken sandwiches had the perfect level of taste. Interesting walk around the museum - some fantastic artefacts and a great little shop too. Thoroughly recommended on all counts.

Revisited this venue today. What an absolutely fabulous experience , from the friendly welcome from Donna and her team, till the good bye and thank you you for calling. The museum is fantastic, some superb memerobilia, the shop has brilliant souvenirs, reasonably priced. What can one say about the tearoom. Full of bygone days furniture, a greatselection of bone China crockery for your cuppa. The food is first class, home made soup to die for.sandwiches, panini, toastier all made fresh to order, the home baking is out of this world. The staff in the tea room, are so pleasant and helpfull, please do not drive past this remarkable venue, giving so much information, family records as well, about life in Ness in bygone days. Well do rope to everybody that helped make our visit memorable.

Cafes in Lewis aren't found that often and don't have international brand names, so you have to look a little harder. We had heard about this community centre and were enjoying the west coast and felt peckish. Well, what a joy! You probably don't come to Lewis unless you have some interest in isolated places and how folk live. Well they're strong and self-reliant, but love a coffee or a chat over lunch, and this place was BUSY! The 'staff' were local community people, probably on a rota we guessed, as were half the customers. Anyway, we were there at lunchtime, received a friendly welcome. and presently received lovely light lunches which were nicely presented and very tasty. The centre also houses a free museum, and it was fascinating to learn more about shipwrecks and survivors' tales. The building itself was spick and span and there was plenty of parking.

Stopped here for lunch having visited the Butt of Ness. What a lovely place. The museum was interesting with exhibits of local life from years ago. The gift shop was also good. We stayed for lunch in the cafe and I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting. The menu covered all tastes and was reasonably priced. It was very tasty and really good food. I had a cheese and onion toastie with salad. The coleslaw that came with it is home made in the cafe and was really good. The staff were lovely too, very welcoming and made you feel at home.

Lunch had been pre booked by our tour operator which fell on the day of the Queens funeral. Even though the Museum and Cafe were officailly closed the staff kindly obliged and served our group soup, sandwiches and cakes. All homemade, fresh and tasty. The staff and service were first class. They even had a TV on so that proceedings could be watched of the funeral during our time there. We were also able to have a look around the museum. We highly recommend both the cafe and museum.

We stopped to visit the museum and also had a very nice lunch. The museum is small but very interesting and currently has a special exhibit of Viking treasures found in the area. The docent was very knowledgeable and interested in sharing. The cafe was large and able to accommodate us despite a bus load of folks arriving at the same time as we did. I enjoyed the lentil soup of the day and my husband enjoyed his toastie. We split a piece of chocolate sponge cake, yum!

If you are on the Isle of Lewis please visit this super cafe / museum. The people working there are so friendly and enthusiastic. We called in on a damp and blustery lunchtime, and were made to feel so welcome. We had a great soup and sandwich lunch, then looked round the museum which was full of interesting exhibits. Check out the video in the cafe with all the young local kids talking you through the area, very informative!!

Clean and well organised, the museum is interesting, well worth a stop and the staff are very knowledgeable locals. Cafe is also good with a selection of cakes and sandwiches made to order (sandwiches only obviously). Quite a find in this very remote place 👍

First visit this year, glad to say everything is up to its usual high standard in the cafe. The service by Kirsty and Elise was first class, warm and friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. Beautiful home made soup, had a fabulous ,locally made beef burger served with fries. The home baking was to die for with a brilliant selection. Please do not drive past. The museum is very interesting as well with Donna on hand to answer any queries. You can also get help with your family tree if yo have local connections. A super place to spend an afternoon.

This place is special with a true feel of being part of the community. Small museum is part of the building and you can walk around before or after food. Simple yet very tasty lunches (soup, sandwiches etc) including many locally produced ingredients including the bread / soup.

After a look around the fabulous exhibition about the local area we had lunch in the cafe. Good choice available for a gf, veggie (cakes and sandwiches) although I plumped for a jacket potato which was delicious and came with coleslaw and a fresh salad. Well worth a visit for the exhibition and food/drink.
