Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had hoped to dine in the conservatory but it’s not in use on weekdays. Service pleasant and prompt. Soup was delicious. Main courses weren’t great. Steak pie gravy almost black with possibly thyme added which didn’t complement. Nice proper dairy ice cream to finish. It...was a convenient rendezvous point , but not one I would rush to return to.More

Good morning Norma. I hope you appreciate that it is not financially viable to open the conservatory during quieter periods, due to the amount of heating it takes, and extra staff. I am sorry that the steak pie let us down. I have spoken to...More

Party of ten plus small children easily and cheerfully accommodated for a family meal. A wide variety of choices were made from the menu and all were excellent. The quality of the food , value and service were all top-drawer. The food was obviously freshly...prepared and the menu was a cut above the usual pub fare.More

Quite disappointed with our meal tonight. We used to visit regularly but haven’t been in a while. Sadly we felt it has gone downhill a little. Both had steak pie, mash and veg. The mash certainly wasn’t creamy as noted on the menu. Rather it...was an oval blob of lukewarm mash. I know I could have sent it back but it was a bit dry and tasteless so I knew I wouldn’t eat it anyway. The veg was standard frozen peas, sweetcorn and carrot. The steak pie was quite tasty but some of the meat was a bit fatty. The pastry was lovely though! The chocolate fudge cake was nice but could have done without the white chocolate drizzle which made it overly sweet! Still managed to eat it though!More

Service from the person who claimed to be in charge verged on sullen. My mother’s meal was lukewarm and the ‘hand cut’ chips looked burnt. When she went to pay she asked to speak to the manager and the server said they were in charge....My mum made her complaint and was told ‘I asked you if everything was alright and you said yes’ however my mum hadn’t heard the question and the server didn’t actually wait to hear the answer. The thing is mum was treating my cousin and me on the anniversary of a very sad occasion so we were all a bit distracted. My food was ok, but nothing special- the old menu was much better - but because of the occasion I didn’t say anything to upset mum. To add insult to injury we’ve just spotted that my mum was charged £2 for a glass of tap water. Not impressed and it will be a long time before we’re back - unless Angie’s in charge.More

We arrived and received a nice welcome and we had our dog with us and were seated nicely. I had the black pudding starter with the fish and chips for my main and I must admit it was beautiful. The started was so soft(the worry...I have with black pudding is that its too hard) however this was perfect. The fish and chips were spot on and would never do anything to change it. Perfect amount of tartar sauce given also as my pet hatred is having to ask for more. Great work !More

When we first arrived and took a table, no one took our order for around 20 minutes. After attempting to order at the bar, I was told to sit down and someone would take my order. There were members of staff floating around the bar...area and they kept walking past us. We were the only ones in the bar area for food. Eventually, after a further 5 - 10 minutes, our order was taken. We felt like an inconvenience from the start. It was a hot day and for being a 'dog friendly' bar, our pooch wasn't acknowledged with a bowl of water. They may let dogs in the bar but certainly not dog 'friendly'. We've been to many a dog friendly bar and a dog biscuit and a bowl of water goes a long way! Again, we felt like an inconvenience. Our food took over 40 mins to arrive which felt long due to the long wait at the start. It was safe to say that we were not keen in ordering coffees or dessert because who knows how long we'd have been in there. Not once were we asked how our food was and on paying the bill, the lady at the bar was on WhatsApp on her phone and didn't ask how our food was. She presented the card machine and let us go on our way. I enjoyed my food, as did my wife but it may have tasted better if the staff were a little bit more welcoming and the service was a little better. I fully understand places can be busy and understaffed but I can tell you that there were members of staff consistently walking by us and didn't even think to apologise for our wait or tell us that they'll get to us. We were completely ignored. Really disappointed after reading great reviews.More
