Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Back in Dublin after nearly 4 years and WOW have I missed it. As a US / Ukraine girl alot has changed for me since the war so really stoked to say I found 2 absolute gems! It needs to be really special for me...to review and decided to hit the vibrant urban village of Ranelagh to revisit one of my favourite restaurants in the world called the Exchequer, Ranelagh. Let me just say the Exchequer under Chef Jose serves the best home made Tapas that I have ever tasted with wines and cocktails to complete the amazing experience. They have made a few changes with a stunning garden area and window seating which are really impressive. On a subsequent visit to Host next door I got to savour the Exchequer Cocktail Experience part 2! I just wish I lived in Ranelagh!!More

The atmosphere in this place is great. The staff were helpful and attentive. However, the food has gone down hill since we last visited 4 years ago. The meat and cheese platter is very basic. They previously had smoked nuts, roasted vegetables with grapes included....Unfortunately the platter is just 2/3 cheeses, 3 meats and a few nuts with honey and olives. We had to ask for crackers. The tapas were tasteless and our bottle of red wine was not room temperature. We did still enjoy ourselves but we’re a little disappointed with the food after our last experience here.More

The staff is brilliant. The environment is nice. However the food is completely disappointing. Flavourless frozen small portions and some dishes are not what they suggested on the menu.

Back to Exchequer Wine Bar on Friday night, for another terrific night out. Tapas selection was super - we could have eaten any number of the dishes on offer. Two small plates each were all really good - lovely flavours and textures. Tapas suits us...fine, as we often are more interested in starters rather than main courses. Two very tasty cocktails to start with followed by a lovely bottle of wine. Our waitress kept in touch with us, but gave us time to finish our cocktails before ordering the food. This was a terrific night out, and we will definitely be back - this place is one of our favourites. Very highly recommended.More

Amazing! We booked this place having seen the menu online before hand. Turns out there is another restaurant of the same name but they don’t do tapas. We had booked and went to the other restaurant by accident. When we realised we turned up at...the wine bar to be greeted by a fabulous host who couldn’t do enough for us. The fact we had booked the wrong place was not a problem at all! The food was delicious and the wine was exquisite! Also the best margarita I have ever tasted. Definitely recommend!More

I was in Ireland for a weekend visiting family from England. The food was absolutely fantastic and you can tell how popular it was from how busy the place was. When able, I’ll definitely be visiting again.

Went here last night for wine, tapas and cocktails. Such a warm welcoming staff and atmosphere. Tapas were delicious - definitely more creative than the usual you see around Dublin. Tables were well spread out, sanitiser at the tables, felt very safe.

I recently spent a wonderful night at The Exchequer. It offers an excellent quality of food, tapas and paella were the best I ever tried so far in Ireland. Also has a huge variety of wines and cocktails. Highly recommended for either friends or couples...lunch/dinner out. Place it is very cosy and the service could not be better.More

We decided to order the Sunday Roast from here today and WOW it was just fabulous. We ordered takeaway to have at home with my parents and it was delicious. Beautiful tender roast beef, lots of crispy roast potatoes, loads of veg and dab trimmings...absolutely with every penny and will definitely be ordering again.More

Wife and I had a wonderful date night in the exchequer wine bar last night, always thought of it as just a wine bar (great selection of wines btw!) although turns out to be a fabulous tapas spot with a Spanish chef and our lovely...and attentive Spanish waiter. Highly recommend for anyone considering a meal in Ranelagh, enjoyable atmosphere and we will definitely be back again soon. Thanks so much for a really delicious and memorable meal 😊🙏👌More

Succulent fish in a crisp light batter filled by Espresso Martinis. A great evening out the back with her in doors. Prompt delivery. Good value. Good luck to the Ex and all businesses💪.
